I like the waffle fries at Chik-fil-a, which may or may not reach outside the Southeast U.S., but I am guessing not.  For fried potatoes, I still have to go with McDonalds.

Agreed Chik-fil-a fries are good, second only to McDonald's. (they have Chik-fil-a in Oklahoma but pretty much only in mall foodcourts which bugs my coworker from Georgia.)

ETA -- Sonic pisses me off because I miss those places. We get their damn ads up here all the time and the closest location is downstate....like a multi-hour drive away. I am still tempted to make a Sunday car trip out of it.

I believe there are a couple Sonics out in the southwest suburbs, but it is probably faster to drive down to the one here in Champaign than to drive to wayne's world.

There are no Wendy's here anymore. 3 former wendy's buildings, all with their signs and all. The franchisee went out of business a couple years ago and the places have been sitting empty since. I really have a craving for a Frosty too. :(

I don't mind the new fangled "breaded" fries at BK. But their burgers knock the socks off anything McDonald's sells, and the once every 3 years Italian Chicken Sandwich is stellar.

Fuck, I forgot Whataburger. Yeah, they have burgers on par with BK, though of a different type, and really good fries. They do cool quickly.

Hardees has some nice burgers, especially their Frisco burger. That shit is GREASY AS FUCK, though, worse than most fast food I know. I mean, like grab extra fucking napkins greasy. And their cinny buns are women's sexual organs  in reverse, they look great but taste pretty terrible.

Arby's Curly Fries are pretty damn good, as are the Jamocha shakes.  That's about all I can eat from the place.

Heart Wendy's, but only for specific items like the oriental salad, the double or the "Old Time" burger whose name currently escapes me. Plus I live in Ohio/ N. Ky.  Anyplace outside of here I've had it has been crappy.

BK Whoppers are fan-fucking-tastic.. toss some bacon on there and it's pure love.  As EE points out, however, the places are like cesspits inside.. they don't have a strong-enough corporate culture to enforce the rigid cleaning regimin that McD's has.

McD's I used to think was great, but as I'm getting older even the fries are starting to taste like ashes in my mouth.  I only eat there when forced to these days.

I've got the same problem. They advertise all over the place here, but there's only ONE Sonic in the area, and it's a good 1 1/2 hour drive from me.  What. The Fuck.  They're good, but they're not "drag the family on a car ride" good.

I only recently had Jack-In-The-Box for the first time.  We were passing through Nashville on the way to my grandfather's funeral and I stopped to give it a try.  Holy Fucking Burger Jesus.. the Ultimate Cheeseburger (or whatever it's actual name was) and Oreo milkshake were like a calorie orgasm.  I've been craving another for almost  2 months now.

I also find it funny some of you like Wendy's chili, but not their burgers.

I miss whoppers. cry

I will never eat at Jack In the Box.

Just too dangerous. Every time I see one all I can think of is "E Coli!" and my stomach cramps in fear. Irrational, I know, but that is what happens.

Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips is another place I just can't go to, though that is because I actually got sick from eating at one as a kid.

Since I brought up the seafood....Long John Silver's = yum. Best ones are the ones in the dual-chain setup with A&W cause you can get the root beer in a mug along with your meal+hush puppies.

I'd normally agree, but the ads + my wife's never having had it (and they have grilled cheese so yay for her) + my college nostalgia for the stuff = car trip ahoy for me, I think.

ETA -- I am shocked nobody has mentioned White Castle yet (or its bastard step-child, Crystal).  Also, Dick's in Seattle is pretty darn good for late night drunken grease burgers. Also, it's hilarious when your very homophobic roommate says stuff like, "Man I could really go for some Dick's right now."

I hate you all.

Things I miss the most in Korea:  Taco Bell, Long John Silvers, and the Arby's Beef and Cheddar with Cheddar Curly Fries and a Jamocha Shake.

~sigh~

And the funny thing is, I've met plenty of Koreans who LOVE Taco Bell.  The run-for-the-border fuckers need to expand to SE Asia already.

The last time I went to Wendy's was over a year ago. I had to return my sandwich twice as it was screwed up and had to wait along with other customers who also were protesting their fouled up orders. The manager kept apologizing profusely how the sandwich maker couldn't read English and thus the order takers were required to reiterate the verbal sandwich orders to her, to which she couldn't keep straight — how genius is it to have a system with monitors, photo button touchpads, and displayed orders when the workers can't read English.

The last time I went to McDonalds, it was months ago, and in the drivethru, I had to pull up and order from the window because they weren't taking orders from where the microphone and menu were located. But the speaker worked to tell me to pull up, however. And after getting order and asking for tartar sauce, the clerk handed me packets of ketchup. I reiterated request for tartar sauce, and this time he gave me barbecue sauce. Again, I asked, and asked for him to consult somebody else. End result, shrugging of shoulders and total ignorance to the existence of tartar sauce (not that I even like tartar sauce, it was part of family order). And the order was messed up too…

In & Out Burger, in contrast, is fresh, clean, and has never fouled up my order… …and the burgers are pretty tasty… …ask for "Animal Style"…

I hate Wendy's and Sonic. So much :(

Wendy's fries are horrible and never cooked to completion. Sonic is just trash. Poopy trash.

It has to just have the right amount of crispiness, though. I'm actually fond of Wendy's fries.

I don't know why everyone rants and raves over how good the fries at In N Out are, because I think they're kinda... meh.

The only reason I eat them at all is because you can get a side of thousand island which makes them a bit more palatable.

The Whopper clearly dominates in the "flagship burger" category. However, I think I'm missing the "fry gene" because they all taste the fucking same to me, I never get it when people say one place's fries are better than anothers.

But I tell you, the burgers are the best fast food burger I've ever had.

I love the hippies who bitch about American capitalists soiling their beautiful nation with McDonald's and shit, like they were put there at gunpoint.  Meanwhile their countrymen are busy scarfing down the millions of Big Macs required to keep them there.

Five Guys has really tasty peanut-oil fries and really, really tasty burgers (also, La Gallina (a vegetarian) tells me, good grilled cheese).  I believe they started in the VA suburbs of DC, but they've been spreading.  I saw one in Pittsburgh when I went to visit my brother recently.  If you live close to one, check it out.  http://www.fiveguys.com/store_locator.aspx

They just opened one a couple blocks from my apartment, and I swear I've gained 10 lbs already.

We have a place here in Chicago (right across from teh Midway Games offices, actually) that does rendered duck fat fries on Fridays and Saturdays.  The guy does hot dogs, not burgers, but he also makes the best damn sausages in town. If you're ever in Chicago, I highly advise going to this place for lunch -- just be prepared to spend about 30 minutes waiting in line.  Every minute is worth it.  Linky.

The default fries at In-N-Out suck big time. I go across the street to McDonald's to get their fries instead. However apparently there's some super sekrit "double cooked" fries or something (double fried fries?) that are better.

Red Robin, surprisingly, has really good fries if you like really thick ones.

No Del Tacos in Ohio.. maybe farther east.  Some chains just like to skip over the Midwest, it seems.

I like that nobody's mentioned the abomination that is a 3-way or -god forbid- a 4-way.  Good palettes.

The local one is kind of hit-or-miss.  If you're there on a busy evening and they're churning the fries out like mad, they suck.  For some reason they taste better closer to room temperature than straight-out-of-the-grease hot.

Sorry. 3 way and 4 way is a reference to Cincy chili. It is the only American chili with cocoa powder in the respie, You would have to suck on a grease gun to get it richer than that.
