Title: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: schild on July 11, 2013, 11:53:32 AM DAY 1:
Quote Flash Sales: Skyrim Legendary $36 Grid 2 $30 DA:O Ultimate $9 CSGO $5 Daily: Bioshock Infinite $30 Hotline Miami $2.50 Call of Juarez Gunslinger $10 Endless Space $10 MARS $13.39 L4D2 $5 Toki Tori 2 $10 Don't Starve $9 Scribblenauts Unlimited $9 Defiance $13.60 Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Paelos on July 11, 2013, 12:39:04 PM I voted for Borderlands 2 for the fan vote. I think/hope that will win.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: MrHat on July 11, 2013, 12:40:00 PM If a game you own is on sale, click through, the DLC is probably on sale as well.
Ex. Skyrim Legendary is 50% off, but so is Dawnguard DLC. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: schild on July 11, 2013, 12:40:25 PM Yea, it'll win. Hopefully all the DLC gets 66% off also. (as the BLands 2 DLC has a normal sale going right now @ 30% off)
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: sickrubik on July 11, 2013, 12:59:26 PM As far as the DLC for Borderlands 2 goes, is there one to get besides the most recent, Dungeon one?
Of course, depending , I guess it would make sense to get the Pack of DLC. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Ceryse on July 11, 2013, 01:02:56 PM Somewhat disappointed in the sale today. Nothing on that list that I'm interested in, and I only own a couple of them. I'd consider Bioshock Infinite... for a lot less cash -- maybe next summer sale. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Bunk on July 11, 2013, 01:36:20 PM As far as the DLC for Borderlands 2 goes, is there one to get besides the most recent, Dungeon one? Of course, depending , I guess it would make sense to get the Pack of DLC. If you are going to get two, get all four. Big Game Hunt was the only one not overly liked I think. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Segoris on July 11, 2013, 01:39:57 PM As far as the DLC for Borderlands 2 goes, is there one to get besides the most recent, Dungeon one? Of course, depending , I guess it would make sense to get the Pack of DLC. Check for a sale on the season pass or watch Greenmangaming for a sale + a coupon if they have one. The newest isn't going on sale (or so it seems) but it is part of the season pass. I received the Mechromancer pack from pre-ordering, and I liked Gaige but not at that price when I believe it is only the character in that DLC. The same for Kreig in the psycho pack. I don't own the psycho pack but I'm not willing to drop $10 only for a character. If it goes to $3 or so I'll grab it. Somewhat disappointed in the sale today. Nothing on that list that I'm interested in, and I only own a couple of them. I'd consider Bioshock Infinite... for a lot less cash -- maybe next summer sale. That's my issue too, not at 50% off (though the gmg coupon might work with it as they have the same sale currently, I don't know as I haven't tried). Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Riggswolfe on July 11, 2013, 02:45:38 PM I'm just hoping Far Cry 3 goes real cheap soon. I want it but not for more than $15.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Rasix on July 11, 2013, 02:54:05 PM I don't think that's going to happen. The community choice option is only 40% off.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Reg on July 11, 2013, 03:02:19 PM In the case of Skyrim the main game was only 30 percent off but the three DLCs were reduced by 50 percent. I got all three of them for 23 bucks.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: sickrubik on July 11, 2013, 03:06:47 PM Cart Life is only $2! http://store.steampowered.com/app/233390/
Still will wishlist it.. just in case. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Flood on July 11, 2013, 04:04:03 PM Pending the servers un-logjam and I can add anything to my cart - I have a question about a couple of games. I don't own an XBox style controller for my PC yet, and I find trying to play games that were originally designed as console games then ported over to PC extremely annoying to try and play (Warhammer 40k Space Marine jumps to mind) with KB / mouse. I'm eyeballing Dragon Age: Origins and Kingdom of Amalur over at GamersGate, both on sale for less than 10 bucks. Are these games that lend themselves more to a gamepad controller or am I okay with KB / mouse? Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Rasix on July 11, 2013, 04:05:57 PM DA:O is best played keyboard + mouse. The control scheme is the same as any Infinity Engine rpg.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Rendakor on July 11, 2013, 04:45:05 PM Kingdoms of Amalur plays fine with kb + m. There's a demo available if you want to try it out.

Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: schild on July 11, 2013, 06:05:14 PM Called it. $10 season pass.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: schild on July 11, 2013, 06:05:48 PM ($3 Krieg Pack)
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Ingmar on July 11, 2013, 06:27:25 PM Kingdoms of Amalur plays fine with kb + m. There's a demo available if you want to try it out. The demo for this made me motion sick IIRC, so if you're someone who has trouble with that it is something to watch out for. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Segoris on July 11, 2013, 06:28:56 PM and I'm in for Kreig :)
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Mithas on July 11, 2013, 07:00:47 PM I have the same problem with every Steam sale. I start by saying, oooo I want that and that and that. Then I get to checkout and start questioning things after I see the total. Then I drop a few off the list. Maybe a few more. Then I have one left. Probably for the best.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Segoris on July 11, 2013, 07:09:00 PM So, purchasing a game through the website gave me an option to install remotely....holy shit they've gone and added it :drill:

Just accept that and say good bye to your wallet Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Mithas on July 11, 2013, 07:10:46 PM Is Call of Juarez any good?
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Sky on July 11, 2013, 07:25:16 PM I was also hoping (and voted for) Dishonored.
But I'm ok with Borderlands 2, I guess. Not a ton of stuff I'm looking for anyway. Looking out for Rocksmith DLC on flash at some point, but it's a decent discount already. And now we get lolz like me and Lantyssa playing Dark Souls :p Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Rendakor on July 11, 2013, 07:31:11 PM Grabbed Krieg. :drill: Time for another BL2 playthrough this weekend.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: MrHat on July 11, 2013, 08:02:53 PM Picked up Tiny Tina and Bioshock.
Good start so far. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Sky on July 11, 2013, 08:17:32 PM Can't seem to be able to download DSFix.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Flood on July 11, 2013, 08:39:37 PM Is Call of Juarez any good? I bought it tonight, played just a few minutes. Fun, kind of on rails shooter, but seems well done. It got some decent reviews which was what prompted me to buy it in the first place. For 10 bucks I'll take the chance. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: murdoc on July 11, 2013, 09:16:18 PM Can't seem to be able to download DSFix. If any needs DSFix let me know, I can put it up on my Dropbox. It's a must have for Dark Souls. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: luckton on July 12, 2013, 02:07:27 AM Gonna wait a bit longer on BioShock for a better deal. I did grab BL2 + the season pass for $20 during the flash sale just a few minutes before it went back up to $40 for both. :awesome_for_real:
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Teleku on July 12, 2013, 03:04:11 AM I went ahead and grabbed Bioshock. Why do you think a better deal will come? Its up for the daily deal today, they aren't likely to put it up again as a daily deal for even cheaper later on in the sale..
Also grabbed the borderlands DLC and Dont Starve. To many fucking games lately.. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: luckton on July 12, 2013, 03:20:53 AM I guess I meant "wait for the fall sale." I want to play this, but I'm cheap.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Teleku on July 12, 2013, 03:52:38 AM Ah, understood.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Rendakor on July 12, 2013, 04:32:40 AM Civ 5 + First Expansion for $12.49? Sold.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: KallDrexx on July 12, 2013, 05:18:27 AM Is the Saint's Row 3's season pass worth it?
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Bunk on July 12, 2013, 06:10:04 AM If it's cheap I'd say yes, some of the add-on content was well done.
So far: Defiance, Dragonborn, and just now Civ5 BNW. Knew I was being smart in waiting a week for that. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Teleku on July 12, 2013, 06:14:35 AM Need some people to chime in on if Defiance is worth it or not.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Fabricated on July 12, 2013, 06:30:04 AM For ~$10 it's worth a look if you feel like trying a pretty average 3rd person shooter with no cover system but in a world with other people and random events.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Bunk on July 12, 2013, 06:30:37 AM Dunno yet. Fiddled with it for two hours last night. Its an actual MMO shooter. The animations look like I'm running with a load a crap in my pants. No real shortcut bar combat at all that I can see so far. You get a power, two gun slots, grenades, and a melee attack. Improve your power or add perks to it as you level. Standard MMO style loot.
Seems like I shouldn't have a hard time getting $12 worth of enjoyment out of it. Whoever animated Nolan's character put his eyes too close together. Looks creepy. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Sky on July 12, 2013, 07:44:55 AM It would be nice if they would add upgrade pricing ala Civ V => Civ V Gold for more games. I'd upgrade my Skyrim, but I'm not buying it over again or stacking the DLC that high.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: luckton on July 12, 2013, 07:51:03 AM Yeah, they need to improve their DLC handling. If I have the season pass for something in the cart, it shouldn't be allowing me to add the individual DLCs included in the pass, or at least provide a warning or something
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Paelos on July 12, 2013, 08:09:51 AM I agree, I'm wary of buying the SR3 DLC because I have no idea what's in there.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: jakonovski on July 12, 2013, 09:32:30 AM Civ V Brave New World went on sale the same day it came out. Shit is fucked up.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Bunk on July 12, 2013, 10:09:12 AM Yay! nothing I have to buy today!
Anyone who hasn't played Just Cause 2 would be silly not to get it for $3 Even just messing around with the grappling hook for a couple hours is worth that. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Trippy on July 12, 2013, 10:14:33 AM Yay! nothing I have to buy today! Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Trippy on July 12, 2013, 10:31:47 AM They've done that before. Can't remember which Sale they first started doing it.

Maybe in a year they'll be willing to sell for $15. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Teleku on July 12, 2013, 12:21:36 PM Gasp, Surgeon Simulator 2013 is on sale!
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Riggswolfe on July 12, 2013, 12:49:34 PM I wonder if GTA IV on PC is worth $5. Also, is Just Cause 2 any good?
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Paelos on July 12, 2013, 12:52:45 PM Just Cause 2 will be one of the best purchases you make.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Sky on July 12, 2013, 02:13:15 PM Just Cause 2 is a must-own imo. Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie meets Spiderman.
I vote yes for GTA IV because I have hundreds of hours out of it and like the grittier tone (and GTA V pc won't be out for at least another year) Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Ginaz on July 12, 2013, 03:27:41 PM XCom is definitely worth picking up for $10.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Mithas on July 12, 2013, 06:23:42 PM Sleeping Dogs really looks like it is geared towards console play, how is it on the PC?
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Segoris on July 12, 2013, 06:47:15 PM I liked it and it played well for the most part on the PC. The problem is that driving is kind of shit in games like Sleeping Dogs and Saints Row (though there are usually mods to help improve it). It has some fun melee though (even as a kb/m user), my biggest complaint though was that the Sleeping Dogs mod community is nothing like SR though and is pretty bare last I checked.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Ceryse on July 12, 2013, 07:45:43 PM Picked up Sleeping Dogs for my first purchase of the sale -- is any of the DLC worthwhile?
Considered Anno 2070.. but I remember all sorts of stories of DRM and shit and.. only 50% off? Pass, but maybe I'd have impulse bought it at 66% off. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Segoris on July 12, 2013, 08:14:04 PM The Dragon Master Pack is worth it, almost game breaking though as the outfit reduces too much damage imo
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Sky on July 12, 2013, 08:32:43 PM Sleeping Dogs is a really solid open-world GTA-alike. I bought a bunch of the DLC, the cop one is the one I leaned on most early on. 50% damage reduction suit and cop car in the garage (and you can pull a shotgun out of the trunk with a perk, iirc).
I use a 360 gamepad for any game like this. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: schild on July 12, 2013, 09:09:49 PM I don't see a dragon master pack.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: apocrypha on July 13, 2013, 12:28:12 AM Got the Gaige & Krieg BL2 DLC, nice to finally see them on sale.
Went to get Just Cause 2, although I already have it on the PS3, and discovered I already have the Steam version too. Must've picked it up in a previous sale :awesome_for_real: And damn you all, I just got Sleeping Dogs and the Dragon Master DLC too! Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Ceryse on July 13, 2013, 12:55:56 AM I don't see a dragon master pack. Its below the DLC pack list and is basically just a collection of five of the DLCs and, I think slightly cheaper bought as this pack. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Segoris on July 13, 2013, 03:30:35 AM Yeah, what Ceryse said

Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: luckton on July 13, 2013, 06:26:33 AM Tropico 4 on Flash sale for the next 3+ hours. I am thinking of picking it up. Is the DLC worth the extra couple of bucks? Depends on what you use and how you play. I would say that all of the buildings help a lot. The outfits and dictator traits are personal style and flair. If you play with Modern Times you're effectively cheating anyways, so yeah :why_so_serious: Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: DraconianOne on July 13, 2013, 10:23:07 AM Are they doing package deals this time around? Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Miasma on July 13, 2013, 12:09:15 PM I keep thinking about tomb raider but I guess it is very quicktimey with all those scripted events. I also hate that first steam video.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: HaemishM on July 13, 2013, 12:29:11 PM Finally bought the Witcher and the Witcher 2. Made $1.11 selling those idiotic Steam cards, so total cost was $6.37 for two epic RPG's. I'll buy that.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Sky on July 13, 2013, 01:46:56 PM I've got 4 more bucks from those cards...need something to buy now!
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: jakonovski on July 13, 2013, 02:12:08 PM Anyone played Mars: War Logs? I've played it a bunch but not beaten it. It's a janky rpg with heart. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Engels on July 14, 2013, 10:38:09 AM Kerbal is fun to a point, and then the difficulty level goes up so steeply that when the initial shiny wears off, you either buckle down and learn astrotelemetry like a pro nerd or you fizzle out. There are a few mods out there that help make the game marginally easier, but in the end, if you don't understand and don't want to understand Buzz Aldrin level of shit its not a game for you

Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Ceryse on July 14, 2013, 04:51:41 PM Any opinions on Eador? I also would like to know this. I'm considering this as the only purchase today. If you like the genre its not bad. I like it, personally -- but I enjoyed Eador: Genesis. Its fairly buggy, however. If you don't have an issue waiting I'd pick it up at the next big sale when its a touch more stable and isn't using wrong event descriptions to tell you what's happening (leaning you no clue as to what actually happened with the actual event you got) and some bugs that skew difficulty to the harder side of things, regardless of difficulty setting. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Paelos on July 14, 2013, 05:32:37 PM Perfect. I'll put it on the wishlist for the holidays. Thanks!

Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Llyse on July 14, 2013, 05:49:18 PM Really tempted with Fallout3 and New Vegas for cheap as well as Total War: Medieval 2....
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Malakili on July 14, 2013, 06:04:31 PM Starting up a new game of New Vegas and I had almost forgotten how much I like this game. The "Courier's Stash" DLC i just picked up is basically like cheating as it gives you a bunch of stuff for free at the beginning. I sold most of it for caps anyway.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: rk47 on July 14, 2013, 06:31:20 PM Will I actually play Tomb Raider or not... Played it for 30 mins. Mash Left + Right to swing. Mash Left + Right to climb slippery surface. Mash E to grab. Dodge Rock with Left / Right I think 50% of the game would be like this. Kinda regret my purchase. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Pennilenko on July 14, 2013, 06:42:45 PM Is Fallout: New Vegas worth $2.50?

Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Rasix on July 14, 2013, 07:17:00 PM Is Fallout: New Vegas worth $2.50? I think I put a hundred hours into the base game, and there was still stuff to do. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: rk47 on July 14, 2013, 07:21:43 PM Is Fallout: New Vegas worth $2.50? You won't see it any lower. I bought the Ultimate Edition. It's basically the 'final' collection of DLCs ever released with the base game. I wish more games would do this unlike fucking Sims 3 Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: MournelitheCalix on July 14, 2013, 10:37:40 PM I finally crumbled, went in for Sanctum 2, HoMM VI and Remember Me. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Setanta on July 15, 2013, 12:20:37 AM Decided that I'd never play Tomb Raider (I have all the others in the series - unfinished) so gave it a miss.
Did pick up 20 bucks worth of Borderlands 2 DLC. NFI why but good to see I'm still an impulse buyer :S Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Setanta on July 15, 2013, 12:23:24 AM Shit, I just saw Kerbal Space Program and Sanctum 2 on sale :(

Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Teleku on July 15, 2013, 01:25:21 AM This is a strange sale. Looking at the Store frontpage you'd think only the listed ones are on sale, but if you actually go browse games (by genre for example) you'll find out that almost everything is 25-75% off until July 22nd. This is how they do it every year. For the length of the sale, most games are put on sale. However, the daily deals cut the price of the selected games even more (so may go from 25% of to 66% or something). Thats why its always best to wait till the games you want go on daily deal sale. Only on the last day when all the daily sales are done should you then go out and buy games at their normal sale price.Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Trippy on July 15, 2013, 01:35:25 AM It is true, though, that they are doing a better job this sale with hiding the non-special deal sale items than they usually do with their horrible UI. E.g. in previous sales publisher catalog sale bundles were predominately featured. Now I can't find any publisher catalog sales this time. I'm not sure if that's because there are no catalog sales or the horrible UI is hiding them better as mentioned above.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Teleku on July 15, 2013, 01:43:09 AM I actually like steams UI, never had any problems with it really. What about it do you find horrible?
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: jth on July 15, 2013, 01:50:12 AM Publisher packs/bundles seem to be mostly missing this time, I noticed only two so far (Stardock -66%, Daedalic -75%).
A lot of stuff is -75% for the whole duration, those probably won't be discounted further in daily sales. I have not yet bought anything mostly because I keep forgetting to look and when I do I can't decide. Don't know if I should get Borderlands 2 for the pc. I played it on xBox but didn't have all (maybe not even most) of the DLC. I think I might be wishy washy. :( Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Ceryse on July 15, 2013, 10:37:58 AM I've spent more than I expected to during this sale (but less than I allotted, thankfully). I'm up around $75 spent already, just picking up;
- Dishonoured - Dust: Elysian Tale - DLC for New Vegas - Tomb Raider (and some DLC, I think) - Eador: Broken World - Sleeping Dogs (and some DLC) - Torchlight 2 - Ys 1 & 2 - Just Cause 2 - Fallout 3 and its DLC - Universe Sandbox Think I'm pretty much done. I can't think of anything else that might come on sale that I'd even want to buy or don't already have. I have made about $6 back in selling duplicate cards, though. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: MrHat on July 15, 2013, 11:03:08 AM Just filling out some games that I've been wanting to play but probably won't and some DLC while its on sale:
Far Cry 3 - Blood Dragon $7 Fallout New Vegas: Ultimate $5 Mirror's Edge $6 Bioshock Infinite $30 Civ5 Gold DLC $5 Dishononred Knife of Dunwall DLC $3.50 BL2 Tiny Tina's Assault DLC $3.50 Been good so far, but I picked up a bunch of stuff during the winter that I haven't even touched so I'm being a little more restrained this time around. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Sky on July 15, 2013, 11:16:10 AM Dishonoured is the one I was waiting for.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: murdoc on July 15, 2013, 12:24:44 PM Dishonored is really good - I'll be picking up the "Knife of Dunwall" DLC.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Signe on July 15, 2013, 12:35:17 PM Look at all these games!?! We used to have to go searching for good games to play and now they grow on game bushes or something. I don't know if I'm happy or alarmed.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Lucas on July 15, 2013, 12:37:34 PM I've been a good lad so far and purchased only what I originally planned, and that is The Cave and The Walking Dead. I also planned to buy Kerbal Space program (still have a bit of time for that) and probably the Knife of Dunwall DLC and Slinghost DLC for X-com and that's it, sigh.
On the other hand, given how great Crusader Kings II was, I'll probably purchase Europa Universalis IV (and Day1 dlc) at full price when it's released in August, so I'll save for that. Finally, I read somewhere that "You need a budget 4" was on sale a couple days ago? I might purchase it if there's going to be another sale. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: KallDrexx on July 15, 2013, 12:55:54 PM Apparently the sale goes until the 22nd, so we still have another full week.

Yeah but they did put 33% off Civ5:Brave New World and a discount on BL2: Tiny Tina's Assault, both of which are probably more popular and also brand new Besides Dishonored, Wargame:ALB has been some decent fun, $20 is about right. Beyond that, today's sales are kind of shitty (even the flash sales). Though I have heard good things about Reus. What about it do you find horrible? I'd probably die of old age before I enumerated all the issues so I'll just give a sampling.* The product lists (New Releases, Top Sellers, etc.) don't fit on a 1080p screen without scrolling. They don't even fit on a 1920 x 1200 screen as the new layout takes up even more vertical space for each item. And "paging" does that fucking annoying slow animation each time you page. * And to add insult to injury if you go to a different page (e.g. list 11 - 20), click on a game, and then use the back button to go back to the list you are back on the first fucking page (1 - 10). * Pop quiz (and no cheating) -- from the big called out HTML page menu options (Store, Library, Community, <Your_Name_Here>) which page under those options do you go to to search for people to add as a friend? Bzzzt! Wrong. It's not the Friends screen -- that would be too easy. Activity or Community pages are acceptable answers though the searches differ between the two for some inexplicable reason. Activity is player search only while Community is player or group search. * Next pop quiz -- which page do you go to to manage your friend invites? Bzzzt. Wrong. It's not the fucking Friends page, again. The only place to manage your invites is the pop up Friends list. * The UI now thankful shows you if you own a game. However it does not show you if you own a DLC for a game you own when viewing the DLC page, making buying DLC for a game with a lot of DLC, some of which you may have purchased before a fucking painful experience. I end up either adding all the DLC if there's an option for that and then deleting the ones I already own (cause it shows you the ones you own in the cart, fuckers) or bringing up the separate window when you right click on a game in your Library and click on View Downloadable Content and refer back and forth. But just to make things interesting the DLC names in the product window can differ from the names in the View Downloadable Content window. * Speaking of the cart, only a handful of pages actually show a link to your cart if you have an active one (most but of course not all of the Store pages will show you a cart link). The client can show you a message/notification icon in the top right in the main client UI (outside of all the HTML garbage) but it can't show you a fucking cart icon too? * Modal and modeless dialog boxes look exactly the same but of course modal dialog boxes block the entire client and plays that fucking sound when you try to use the client when the modal dialog is up. * When backing up files it fucking always defaults to CD as the split size. Who fucking uses CDs to archive games these days? Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: SurfD on July 16, 2013, 02:33:36 AM Cant remember what the verdict was on Carrier Command, but I see it up on the flash sale for 70% off. Is it worth it, or should I hold on for a better deal on something else? Seem to recall someone said it had serious issues with unit pathing or something when you let the AI run things?
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Kageru on July 16, 2013, 02:51:20 AM It's bohemia interactive so I assumed it would be clunky, buggy and not much fun... certainly the video looked that way Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: tar on July 16, 2013, 03:24:09 AM I wouldn't say Carrier Command has serious issues with pathing, but yeah it can be a bit 'oh for fucks sake stop trying to ram the goddamn tree and get back on the road fuck it I'll do it manually' on occasion.
FWIW I was a huge fan of the original and have been wanting an updated version for many years, I was pleased with it overall. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: apocrypha on July 16, 2013, 04:56:40 AM I think this is gonna be the most expensive Steam sale for me ever. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: HaemishM on July 16, 2013, 09:59:09 AM I had to pull the triggered on Dishonored and all it's DLC. For $16, why not?
Also, short doesn't really bother me much anymore. Hell, I've put over 40 hours into Skyrim and I'm not close to finishing it but I get fatigue with games that long. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: MrHat on July 16, 2013, 10:04:02 AM I'm shocked none of these are 75% off. Kind of weird actually considering we've seen a few for lower.
Edit: refreshed to glorious 75% off. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: HaemishM on July 16, 2013, 10:06:37 AM Yeah, that's fucked up. Shitty day today. Sleeping Dogs has been 50% off the whole sale except for that one Flash sale.
Also, you motherfuckers need to vote for Civ5 on the community vote, in case they drop the price of the new expansion with it. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: sickrubik on July 16, 2013, 10:06:45 AM Given the issues they seem to be having today, those prices might still be updating. 25% off is a pretty low discount, for instance.
Edit: And just like that, the prices are lower. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: HaemishM on July 16, 2013, 10:08:15 AM Yep, reload and the prices drop. Weird.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: sickrubik on July 16, 2013, 10:10:03 AM Yep, reload and the prices drop. Weird. Not weird at all, it's quite common that people end up reporting on prices too soon. Steam's database seems a bit sluggish when it's getting hammered. Was hoping that the Skyrim DLC would be a bit cheaper, nothing else today for me to snag. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: MrHat on July 16, 2013, 10:11:44 AM Awesome.
That said if you don't have Mark of the Ninja yet, you should. It's fantastic. I really enjoyed Orcs Must Die 2, but I really enjoyed the first one and I'm a big fan of tower defense games. Sleeping Dogs is still on my list form the Winter Sale where I got it for $17. I hear good things about it though. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Rasix on July 16, 2013, 10:14:58 AM Still considering Dishonoured. Other than that, I'm good. I got Sleeping Dogs for that price when they mispriced it last sale. And unlike those Best Buy dickbags, Steam actually honors mispriced items.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: schild on July 16, 2013, 10:20:00 AM $3.99 is the right price to pay for the Alan Wake franchise.

I got Sleeping Dogs for that price when they mispriced it last sale. And unlike those Best Buy dickbags, Steam actually honors mispriced items. Not only is best buy a bunch of dick bags but in the AM hours after they stopped people from buying, but before they refunded the orders, they went into their TOS to perform a ghost edit that was captured by companies that log and track TOS for online retailers. The ghost edit gives them to the right to never make good on mis-priced items in stores or online. Basically says they have a right to cancel all orders or refund all sales at their discression including instances of mistaken pricing. Not really because of the penny game screw up, but more because best buy has been horrible for years, I probably wont buy anything from them ever again. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Pennilenko on July 16, 2013, 10:25:08 AM Also, you motherfuckers need to vote for Civ5 on the community vote, in case they drop the price of the new expansion with it. I'm kind of wary about buying them for the PC, though. I've only ever played them on a console. They really scare me half to death, too, which I sort of like. I wonder how crappy they got since my PS1/PS2 days... I would be disappointed like I was with Resident Evil... umm... raccoons or sommat.
And will vote Civ5... won't play, but will vote. :) Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Rasix on July 16, 2013, 10:27:43 AM The only good Resident Evil is 4.

Yeah, I've pretty much only picked up DLC in this sale so far, and it's a fucking pain in the arse to do so. Even worse, sometimes the DLC that you apparently don't own, even when sold singly ie, not in a bundle, shows up in the cart without "you already own this" still comes up with a "you already own this, retard! NO BUY!" when you actually try to complete the purchase. So either it's not all showing up as owned, or it's not letting me buy things by their mistake. (I was trying to buy a CivV scenario pack 30 or so mins ago, which was apparently the only thing I don't own excepting the new huge expansion...) I'm not saying it's anywhere near that quality in terms of raw gameplay, but the Loot and Skill systems are better than D3 and it's certainly better than PoE. tl;dr: Van Helsing is a tiny indie darling that dreams of being something bigger. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Ingmar on July 20, 2013, 04:03:50 PM Should I buy Saint's Row 2? I've heard the port is awful.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Kail on July 20, 2013, 04:32:09 PM Should I buy Saint's Row 2? I've heard the port is awful. It's not great, but I've played worse. The one major issue I had was that the game didn't recognize my processor speed and ran at something like double speed, but there was a fan patch that fixed it. Aside from that, I managed to make it through the game without any problems, though it was a bit janky in some parts. Other than that, it's less over the top than SR3 (but still pretty crazy compared to, say, GTA4) and a bit less polished. It's got co-op mode, too, so that's fun. I'd say it's worth four bucks, but if you've already got SR3 there's really not much that SR2 does better except for more diverse character customization. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Mithas on July 20, 2013, 04:56:43 PM PSA: Don't buy Starforge. It's a mess. Thank you! Almost bought it. Bought Witcher 2 earlier in the week and holy crap does that run terrible on my system at max settings. I run Skyrim at max with no issues. What gives? Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Sky on July 20, 2013, 07:17:32 PM Even with GotR fan patch and tweaking, SR2 still ran like crap for me. Too bad, I was getting hooked into the game itself, but the controls and just the, I dunno, way it ran; sucked.
Have you played Just Cause 2 yet? That's on community choice and awesome. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Rasix on July 20, 2013, 07:44:21 PM Bought Witcher 2 earlier in the week and holy crap does that run terrible on my system at max settings. I run Skyrim at max with no issues. What gives? Don't know. It always ran somewhat bad for me. I had to kill a lot of fancy shit and even then some areas were slideshows. First Witcher had similar issues. You needed a fairly strong system and the visuals just weren't on par with what you needed to get them. Just a word of warning. I've heard it's a bad idea to install the combat overhaul mod. It apparently makes some difficult encounters into impossible ones. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: apocrypha on July 20, 2013, 11:22:01 PM I had issues with Witcher 2 as well. You can turn a lot of advanced detail options down without making it look too shit though.
Picked up DCS: Black Shark yesterday. Wasn't mentioned on the Steam splash page or the specials or Flash sales at all, but I was browsing and saw it was 70% off. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Goreschach on July 21, 2013, 06:42:33 AM Why didn't any of you assholes tell me that Antichamber is currently the best game of 2013? :heartbreak: This would have been the first day 1 purchase I've made in two years, had I known about it.
I picked it up for 5ish a couple days ago. At $10 right now(50% off), it's still a good deal. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: schild on July 21, 2013, 08:40:57 AM Kentucky Route Zero looks super cool and I totally voted for it.
Antichamber is pretty fun. The Day[9]'s Day Off run of it is more fun. I've been playing a review copy of it for a bit and while I like it, "best game" of 2013 is a little much. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Signe on July 21, 2013, 09:54:48 AM Dead Island seems to be all buggered up for me. :( I have 20 games in my whole Steam life and 1 card. ONE. I thought that was a lot of games. I thought wrong. Geez, you lot have a fuck ton of Steam games! I guess I fell harder for console games.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: schild on July 21, 2013, 12:15:38 PM It's true, I only own 3 console games.

Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Quinton on July 21, 2013, 05:35:43 PM I'm really interested in Monaco - but don't know how much I would actually play it. You really need to play it co-op with friends to get the most out of it from what I hear. It's fun solo too, but is a completely different experience. I find solo play to feel more puzzle-game-like -- careful planning and execution, and multiplayer to be just crazy mayhem. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: jakonovski on July 22, 2013, 03:06:22 AM Since the sale is winding down, I'll post the list of doom:
FTL: Faster Than Light Grid 2 The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing Dishonored - The Knife Of Dunwall DLC Might and Magic Heroes VI Gold Remember Me Sanctum 2 Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Rendakor on July 22, 2013, 04:35:49 AM I showed a lot of restraint this year, only spent $30 because I've got a backlog of console and handheld games to play already.
Civ V Gold BL2 Krieg DLC Rogue Legacy Retro City Rampage Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: satael on July 22, 2013, 05:01:50 AM CK2 DLCs (I already had all the dlcs that actually added gameplay elements so just some music and graphics because ck2)
Organ Trail X-COM+Slingshot DLC Tropico4+DLCs FTL total spent:<30e Not buying anything that wasn't on sale for more than 50% off worked out fine (especially after spending a bit too much on hex). Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Sky on July 22, 2013, 06:59:21 AM Got a little out of hand this year. It's been a while, though; my last big spree was winter 2011.
Rocksmith DLCs Dishonored Walking Dead Dark Souls Borderlands 2 + DLC XCom DLC Fallout: NV DLC YNAB 4 Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes Poker Night 2 First batch was what I had planned on buying. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Bunk on July 22, 2013, 07:05:19 AM Skyrim - Dragonborn
Fallout NV - all of the DLC Remember Me Metro Last Light Hitman Absolution Civ V - Brave New World Defiance I've discovered a couple things from this. One, buying this many games at once causes me to not want to commit to playing any of them, its quite annoying. And two, I finally found a game in Metro that my current system can't handle. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Mrbloodworth on July 22, 2013, 07:17:27 AM PSA: Don't buy Starforge. It's a mess. Thank you! Almost bought it. Bought Witcher 2 earlier in the week and holy crap does that run terrible on my system at max settings. I run Skyrim at max with no issues. What gives? The Witcher 2 is an extremely detailed game using some rather advanced rendering systems. Its not really comparable to Skyrim on a technical level. Texture resolution alone in both diffuse and normal maps are at least 2x the size of anything in Skyrim. The lighting engine is, insane. The Witcher 1 ran on a version of BioWare's Aurora Engine. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: KallDrexx on July 22, 2013, 07:28:41 AM According to my summer sale progress I've spent $47.07 on:
Dishonored - The Knife Of Dunwall DLC Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials Dishonored - Void Walkers Arsenal DLC The Witcher 2 Just Cause 2 FEZ Saints Row: The Third - Season Pass DLC Pack Sid Meier's Civilization V: Gold Borderlands 2 Season Pass ROW Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Kail on July 22, 2013, 07:34:17 AM For some reason, I didn't get a confirmation e-mail for about a third of the purchases I made. They're still in my games list, though, so who knows what's up.
Damages to my wallet: A New Beginning - Final Cut Bionic Commando Borderlands 2 Borderlands 2 Season Pass Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Dishonored Dishonored - The Knife Of Dunwall DLC Dragon's Lair The Elder Scrolls V: Dragonborn DLC (bought it on flash sale instead of the daily sale, and didn't get the best deal on it :mob:) Gunpoint Special Edition Hitman Absolution Impire Lucius Monaco Risen 2 Gold Under the Ocean Spec Ops The Line Star Trek Strike Suit Zero Mega Bundle Surgeon Simulator System Shock 2 Testament of Sherlock Holmes Tomb Raider Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space Ys I and II Chronicles Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: HaemishM on July 22, 2013, 08:08:55 AM I didn't do too bad.
Witcher 1 & 2 Dishonored + all the DLC Sleeping Dogs + 2 pieces of DLC I was holding out to see if Civ 5 Brave New World or CK Old Gods went on sale, but they never did when I had the cash to spend so those will be purchases for another day. It isn't like I don't already have a shitton to play. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Arinon on July 22, 2013, 08:09:43 AM Came out reasonably light this year:
Dark Souls PTD Edition Saints Row 3 Civ 5 Gods and Kings FEZ System Shock 2 Rogue Legacy Just under $40. Couple of others I might have went in on but the discounts just didn't get there. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Lucas on July 22, 2013, 08:09:56 AM Ok, my shame list:
The Walking Dead The Cave X-com - Slingshot DLC Dishonored - Knife of Dunwall DLC Kerbal Space Program ---------- Other games I didn't plan to buy but wasn't strong enough to hold off: Dark Souls (FUUUUUUUU----) Saints Row 3 - DLC compilation Borderlands: GOTY Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: schild on July 22, 2013, 08:15:35 AM I bought very, very little - just posting by receipt:
1. Borderlands 2 Season Pass / Psycho: $13.58 2. FTL, Surgeon Simulator, Fex: $10.37 3. Poker Night 2: $2.49 4. Van Helsing / DCL: $9.48 5. Dishonoured / all DLC: $16.62 6. Rogue Legacy: $12.xx (for some reason didn't get a receipt for this) This sale was uninteresting and sort of blew though, which makes sense since gaming has been a dumpster lately. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Riggswolfe on July 22, 2013, 08:20:27 AM I set myself a $10 max and had 2 titles I was watching for. As a result, the only thing I bought was the Dragonborn DLC when I caught it for $9.99 somehow. Far Cry 3 and Tomb Raider will have to wait until the Winter Sale I guess.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: sickrubik on July 22, 2013, 08:24:00 AM I managed to not spend much at all, thankfully.
Fez Dead Souls The Elder Scrolls V: Dragonborn DLC Decided to hold off on Rogue Legacy. I'm sure it'll be on sale, somewhere at some point. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: schild on July 22, 2013, 08:35:05 AM Rogue Legacy is actually super cool and $11.99 is a fine price for a Roguetroidvania.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Zetor on July 22, 2013, 09:29:35 AM I ended up with
Dishonored Sleeping Dawgs Alan Wake franchise And from the bargain bin (like... around or below 1 euro): Time Gentlemen Please + Ben There Dan That, Cthulhu Saves the World + Breath of Death VII - I have nfi what any of this is (other than doublepacks of games with Lots of Words in their Titles), but some friends had them and they were like 0.50E apiece, so yeah. Last two missing F:NV DLC (GRA, Courier's Stash) DX:HR:The Missing Link:Electric Boogaloo Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Rasix on July 22, 2013, 09:29:44 AM Borderlands 2 season pass
Dishonored Spec Ops: The Line Dark Souls System Shock 2 Made it out for under $40, which is pretty bad for me considering how little I've bought in recent sales. Funny that I'll preorder a $60 game without a thought and cringe when I end up buying half a dozen for the same total price. Of course, the $60 game I intend to play right away and always do. Some of this shit might not ever even get launched. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Rendakor on July 22, 2013, 09:30:11 AM Rogue Legacy is actually super cool and $11.99 is a fine price for a Roguetroidvania. "You have spent approximately $146.83 USD in the store since the sale began." :ye_gods: My total was similar; - Prison Architect (impulse buy I semi-regret but I like Introversion so fuck it) - Van Hellsing x2 - Port Royale 3 - Gifted - Sleeping Dogs, some DLC - Dishonoured - Risen 2 - Gifted - Dust: An Elysian Tail - Eador: Masters of a Broken World - Plants vs Zombies - Gifted - Torchlight 2 - Gifted - Fallout: New Vegas DLC - Universe Sandbox - Tomb Raider, some DLC - Ys 1 & 2 Total cost: $139 More than I wanted to spend, but outside of the pre-orders I've already done on EU 4 and Total War: Rome 2 this is pretty much it for games for me until next summer, I wager. Between my Steam backlog, those two pre-orders and Hex.. I just don't see myself buying anything before then and not much even then as I'm done with my wishlist. So far, only Sleeping Dogs has really grabbed me -- even if driving on the left side of the road fucks me up to no end. Total damage: $105. :uhrr: I'd managed to keep the last 3 Steam sales under $30 each, not sure what happened here. Pretty happy with my purchases all the same. -Defiance -Don't Starve -Fez -Surgeon Simulator 2013 -Deadlight (only purchase on this list that was really disappointing, out of what I played anyway) -Borderlands 2 Psycho DLC -Swapper -Dishonored & Dunwall DLC -Reus -Sang Froid -Monaco 4 pack -Ms. Splosionman -Farcry 3: Blood Dragon Definitely had more fun with this sale than any of the 2012 sales. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Kageru on July 22, 2013, 02:57:54 PM Risen 2, Kairo, Skyrim legendary edition. I'm poor but those should keep me busy for quite a while. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Rendakor on July 22, 2013, 03:12:58 PM I totally forgot about Poker Night 2; guess I'll wishlist it until winter.
Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: murdoc on July 22, 2013, 03:13:11 PM Borderlands Season Pass and Krieg + a couple skins
Dishonored - Knife of Dunwall Tomb Raider Poker Night 2 Farcry 3 Blood Dragon (holy shit this is awesome) Risen 2 (this is my "I am never going to play this" purchase) Mark of Ninja Got pretty much everything I wanted. I was tempted by Monaco, but I expect it'll go for more than 50% at some point. All in all, about $60 spent, so $10 over the budget I had in my mind. I wasn't going to get Blood Dragon until it went on sale for more, but got convinced it was worth it. The Borderlands skins were total impulse buy and Risen 2 will be a game I hardly play. Rogue Legacy totally seems like a game right up my alley, so that will get purchased sooner than later. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Sky on July 22, 2013, 03:33:48 PM While Risen 2 is an overall better game at just about every level, compared to the previous titles, it does lack a bit of variety the triple character tracks of the previous titles. In other words, it tends to be PIIIIIRAAAAAATES. Where as before at least the whole mage/paladin/rogue split kinda changed things up a bit. You can also side with the natives, and maybe I should've done that to break up things a bit more. Still a cool game, but I took a break after getting my own pirate ship and haven't gotten around to continuing yet.
Forgot I wanted Blood Dragon. Title: Re: Steam Summer Sale 2013 Post by: Ginaz on July 22, 2013, 03:45:45 PM I only spent about $5 on Van Helsing. Suck it, Gabe Newell. :awesome_for_real:

Unfortunately you're in the middle of the best part, episodes 1-3. By the end of 3/middle of 4, the seams start to show in the storytelling. It's still decent, but you start seeing more of the man behind the curtain than the wizardry itself. Does anybody seriously think Steam wouldn't have more clout than GoG if they wanted to demand that and most publishers would cave? |
