Here's mine : (sorry that its messy) (http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/8932/gamingareaga4.jpg) A bit on the spare side but keep in mind I had 3 suitcases to work with for 10 months of living when I came here. So...what does yours look like? Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: schild on May 19, 2007, 12:19:15 PM (http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/576/games01oh7.jpg)
(http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/6695/games02do2.jpg) We have housekeepers that deal with the "carpet problem." That problem being everything from ash to full pizzas, just sitting there. On the carpet. Exposed. But here's the front bedroom / office where the PC gaming goes on from time to time:

Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: pxib on May 19, 2007, 06:31:34 PM This is fun, a picture is forthcoming... I must borrow a digital camera from one of my friends.
[In the meantime imagine a squat, single-drawer sewing table from the turn of the last century, upon which sits a stereo amplifier from circa 1983. Atop that, and around it, are scattered playing cards, unopened mail, CDs, nail clippers, and other utilitarian trash. Beside that mess, stand a glowing blue XBLADE tower and a CRT monitor the size of a microwave oven. The latter is decorated with bird stickers and has a gaping hole where one of its buttons should be, but I can't complain because I only paid $5.00 for it. Honestly I'm not sure a camera will do justice to the antique filth which frames my PC.] Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Strazos on May 19, 2007, 06:53:50 PM I can to find a camera, and then the appropriate cable.
My room is very small, and very messy. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Etro on May 19, 2007, 07:00:55 PM This my home away from home setup. No consoles i'm afraid :nda:
(http://www.markconnell.co.uk/uploads/20052007067.jpg) My gaming rig is the bottom right antec case, the other desktop is fodder for diskspace and the lappy solely runs a ventrilo client (efficient i know!). Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Viin on May 19, 2007, 07:08:11 PM How do you like having the 360 on a monitor? I think it works great. Since my monitor is widescreen and high resolution, I get the full effect just not on a bigger screen. The only thing that annoys me is that I can only hook up with a VGA cable (not HDMI). The only other options on this monitor would be SVideo or single-jack composite. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Strazos on May 19, 2007, 07:31:05 PM When we moved in, I got the small room. Not sure if you can tell. :-P

Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Quinton on May 19, 2007, 07:34:16 PM Is that a scanner or oscilloscope or what on that other table below the map? It's a HP1670E logic analyzer. There's a more elderly HP1661A under the table. The oscilloscope is out on loan to a friend at the moment. The "project" table is a total mess. Haven't had time to screw around with small electronics stuff in too long and it has just accumulated a bunch of junk. -Q Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: schild on May 19, 2007, 07:45:53 PM Straz, you don't need more space. You just need more efficient furniture and a touch of the gay.
Edit: If I can find pictures of my dorm room, you'd shit your pants. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Strazos on May 19, 2007, 08:07:18 PM You can't fit anything else in there. It's about efficient as you're going to get.
Though, shelves would be nice, on the wall that you can't see. Part of the problem is that the wall behind my PC and 23 year old TV is the end of our condo unit. There are no outlets on that wall. Heck, I'm not even sure you could drill deep into it, as I'm not sure what it's made of. Also, you can't see the pile of clothes next to the door. The pile of Clean clothes, because I don't have any more space in the drawers or closet. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Signe on May 19, 2007, 08:08:23 PM Boy's dorm rooms smell like beer, farts and feet. Eww. No one would probably even notice if he shit his pants.

@ Viin: What did you do for sound for your 360 after running the vid to your monitor? @ Strazos: Jeebus, man. I couldn't handle that. @ Schild: Jumpin' Jesus On A Pogo Stick!!! a) I can't imagine your powerbill a month b) I imagine your neighbors hate you (if you live in an apartment) c) it looks pretty much exactly as I figured it would @ Etro: That's a sweet looking keyboard. What is that? I'm using (and in love with) a G15 right now, but I'd like something like that to go with my other comp. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: schild on May 19, 2007, 08:37:02 PM Etro's keyboard is the Saitek Gamer Keyboard (http://www.crazypc.com/images/inputdevices/saitek/saitek_keyboardhuge.jpg). Unmistakably.
I live in a 3,000 sq.ft. house. Arizona is cheap. That was my bedroom. I suppose I could take more pictures. Fear the incoming. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Viin on May 19, 2007, 08:47:16 PM @ Viin: What did you do for sound for your 360 after running the vid to your monitor? Well, I run it to my soundcard on my PC and then that pipes it to my computer speakers (so the PC has to be on). There's an amp I use for my CD player/XM Radio (you can kinda see it on the back wall in my picture) but I didn't have a long enough female->male composite audio cable. The VGA cable for the 360 comes with an adapter to turn the two audio cables into a standard stereo jack. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Strazos on May 19, 2007, 08:54:59 PM It amuses me how everything in Schild's room is perfectly clean, and everything is in its place.
My room? Pfft, you Could Not Pay Me to keep it in such a condition. I try to clean it up from time to time, I really do....but then I need this piece of software, or I pull something out of a box from when I moved in more than a year ago, and eventually the condition of the room just devolves back into what you see here. (And I cleaned up slightly before taking the picture. :-P ) Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: schild on May 19, 2007, 09:14:40 PM 1.

Literally, I took 2 days off of work and still didn't have a chance to get it in order. 3. Computer games, small standees (other than the FFXII one obviously), strategy guides, anime, miscellaneous autographed goods. 4. Living room. We don't do jack shit in there. TV in my room is bigger and the couch isn't comfortable enough for real gaming. 5. One half of my walk-in closet. The part without the clothes. 6. What flanks the front door when you come in. Soon there will be a Resistance one and I'll have it even on both sides so I can put the FFXII one back out. See, all the actual gaming shit, clean as can be. Everything else. Pig sty. Here's my desk (http://www.spacebutler.com/images/yoru/gamingarea_left.jpg), which is on the left side of my "gaming area" (living room). The white box on the left side is Corn, it stores my new anime and any other files I need. The black box on the right is Zod, which is my aging gaming rig. DS under the monitor. Three different notepads scattered around, cuz I'm a freak. :) Pulling back and turning slightly to the right shows my TV, Cronos (http://www.spacebutler.com/images/yoru/gamingarea_mid.jpg), with attached PS2. Framed Darwinia art, cuz I'm a nerd. :) Turning farther right is my shelf o' gaming (http://www.spacebutler.com/images/yoru/gamingarea_right.jpg) with RPG books, board games, Calvin & Hobbes collection, DVDs and game boxes. PS2 in the foreground on the left with stack of PS2 games that need to get played at some point. Turning around, my sofa and another shelf (http://www.spacebutler.com/images/yoru/gamingarea_rear.jpg). Raph's book is just barely visible on the end, peeking out from behind Ted Castronova's book, Lee Sheldon's book and the history of Monopoly. Also, lots of other books that don't involve games. It is literally a converted closet (http://www.darniaq.com/Images/Setup-Office.jpg), 4' x 8'. The "desk" is nothing more than one section of a system I bought at Staples 9 years ago that has been too modular to throw out. Every time I think I need to cut a piece down, or toss the whole thing, it just magically works. This room abuts my kids' room, so note the lack of speakers, and the presence of the earbuds (this is my fifth pair... they keep breaking). And befitting a father of two preschoolers, note the floor courtesy of Toys R Us.
(http://www.darniaq.com/Images/Setup-TotalView.jpg) I read some consumer insight thing awhile back that talks about a man's need for a "man cave" in their house, a place of solitude for reflection or some shit. I've certainly nailed the cave part. Miraculously, both my old Athlon XP 2000 (on the floor) and new C2D e6600, cable modem, wi-fi/landline router, monitor, that MIDI Keyboard, and that external drive all operate on one power strip on one outlet, on the same circuit as two air conditioners. I'd probably tip the scale if I put back the second monitor, but as you can see, I ain't gots the room for it. So happy that monitor supports multiple inputs. Glad I don't live in brown-out country :) Here's my desk (http://www.spacebutler.com/images/yoru/gamingarea_left.jpg), which is on the left side of my "gaming area" (living room). I only have three pairs... everyday pair, worn-once-a-season dress pair and a ratty old pair for when I'm doing stuff outdoors that's gonna involve a lot of mud. Yoru, what do you think of those headphones? I've been thinking about a good pair with a mic on them. Those are Altec Lansing 'phones, I forget the model number. They work great for TS and shooters. The mic arm is bendable as well as having a pivot on the side, which I very much like. However, the ear cups are a wee bit small, so my ears get pressed into my head and can start to hurt if I leave them on for multiple hours. If you don't mind having the mic detached and affixable to a surface/clothing via an alligator clip, I strongly recommend the Icemat Siberia headphones. I have them at the office and they're amazing. Best sound I've heard out of headphones, ever, and they're super SUPER comfortable, even for long-term wear. Schild has some too, I'm sure he could post a pic. Ignore the flat screen wall mount. It's coming down as soon as we pick a color to pain the room. I'd rather see it than 4 holes in the wall where the screws went and I patched it with spackle. I have them at the office and they're amazing. Best sound I've heard out of headphones, ever, and they're super SUPER comfortable, even for long-term wear. Schild has some too, I'm sure he could post a pic. As for surround sound, eh, if you get the included USB soundcard, it mimics 7.1 just fine. Creepy fine in fact. It's funny, at the upper end of audio gear, Icemat's are reviled. But for gaming - if that's most of what you'll be doing (along with the odd mp3), they're fantastic. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Venkman on May 21, 2007, 08:17:09 PM I used to buy that "upper end" range of audio gear. 15 years later I'm still wishing I dumped that cash into computers instead. These I think will do well then. I like that they're comfortable. Years of earbuds... ugh. And I'd like to have even that mimic'd surround. And lol Yegolev. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: schild on May 21, 2007, 08:24:09 PM Oh the icemat ear plugs are the most comfortable ear plugs ever also.

Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Yegolev on May 22, 2007, 07:47:22 AM I suggest you get the girl first and let her decorate. If it doesn't work out, at least you won't have to worry about bringing other women to your cell. Then again, my future-wife visited me often and knew I slept on a twin mattress on the floor. Between the Clean Pile and the Dirty Pile. And spent five nights a week at the bar (only work nights). YMMV.

Nowadays, the newb experience has largely eliminated the need for it, but the philosophy remains.
Quote Our Philosophy: We practice random acts of kindness and senseless beauty. We enjoy roleplaying in a fantasy world, which is the basis of an online game. Still, when we are online, we like to remember that we are people, not just characters in an illusory world. As a guild, assist our fellow players and remind ourselves that there is a person behind each character. When you help one person, you help the entire world "No matter what the circumstances, there's a way to play the game that will show others that you don't think only of yourself." You have to understand the context; Uberguild raid mentalities, rampant greed, guild cock-blocking each other for content, etc. All the things in EQ1's mechanics that turned otherwise 'normal' people into raging douchebags. Our guild was formed with the principle that that was not going to happen with us, no matter what 'opportunities' for game advancement may present themselves. That ranges from monopolizing camp spawns, to randoming on items you don't need, to countless examples of guilds hosing each other during raiding events.
We were quite popular on our server, having established a reputation for fairness and getting people out of rough spots. Ever lost your corpse on a deep Chardok run, but have your entire group abandon you? RA would often help with situations such as that. Remember, the summoning altars for corpses were put in place only years after Kunark's release. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: schild on May 22, 2007, 09:56:48 AM No, no. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Engels on May 22, 2007, 10:42:20 AM Oh, I see the issue. The term 'roleplaying' used in the guild charter statement is meant very loosely. There's no real capital R role play in our guild. I mean, there is if you want there to be, but its by no means the character of the guild. The term is used in the same way that its used in say, RPG, or MMORPG. As opposed to RTS, or FPS.
Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Nebu on May 22, 2007, 10:44:11 AM I thought RP servers existed in MMOG's for two reasons:
1) As a stupid name filter. 2) As a place for people to congregate that enjoy pretending to speak in Ye Olde Englishe. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Signe on May 23, 2007, 06:20:51 AM I have a place for my computer but only because it's a desk top computer. If I ever get a gaming laptop, I'll no longer have a computer area. As far as consoles go, I don't really have a gaming area. I just flop down some place and play. Sometimes upstairs, sometimes in the living room. The living room is nice because Righ bought one of those big screen TVs. I do hate the look of it though. I don't know what we'll do if it ever breaks. I guess we'd have to push it to a dumpster in the middle of the night and hope no one sees us. Anyway, I'll bet Righ would like it if I decided on a gaming area. He gets to set up where I flop down. IT'S HIS JOB AS A MAN. I won't though... I like being spontaneous.

I looked up townhouses, which is what we're renting, and the closest I could find was one with three beds, two baths (one less than we have now), in a crowded area with hardly any greenery, no fireplace or garage, half the square footage for more than twice the price. I'm completely OCD about that kind of thing. All tools have to be in perfect order. Pictures have to be straight. I straighten my TV, Couch or Speakers about 3 times a week. All of my shit is in it's own little box. Kind of like Sim City 1. And everything in that 9x9 area needs to be straight. At night, the last thing I'll do before getting in bed is adjust the charis in front of the Arcade Machine. Glad I'm not the only one with this problem. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Lantyssa on May 29, 2007, 10:01:34 AM Two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures ended up on my desk after Easter. My family is weird. The action figures in the cubbies on the right, by the by, are from the poorly concieved and even worse-selling Shadowrun Duels action-figure game (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/shadowrun/sr_article.asp?cid=37595). Thank you for fueling my recent desire to play Shadowrun even more. :-PTitle: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Yegolev on May 29, 2007, 11:28:06 AM Voodoo, your decor is super-super. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Zonk on May 29, 2007, 11:58:54 AM Thank you for fueling my recent desire to play Shadowrun even more. :-P Hee. :) I assume you are referring to the tabletop RPG, because the released-today videogame is an affront to all that man has built over the last two thousand years? I do love it so, especially in the newest edition. I usually take a turn behind the GM screen, but right now I'm playing a Face/Hacker in a game on Tuesdays. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Lantyssa on May 29, 2007, 12:14:54 PM Is that today? Yeah, I was refering to the tabletop game.
Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: schild on May 29, 2007, 12:39:09 PM There's nothing wrong with the videogame being released today. It's a fine game. The ONLY problem, is it's called Shadowrun. They should've changed the name just like they did with Deus Ex: Clan Wars (to Project Snowblind). Unfortunately, they didn't. Of course, renaming Deus Ex: Clan Wars doomed it to failure. So uh, yea, i can see why they stuck with Shadowrun.
Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Zonk on May 29, 2007, 01:17:24 PM I was right with ya on the 'just ignore it' part until I played it and found out how much they were going to charge.
$60 for a game shipping with 10 maps, multiplayer online, during a free beta, on the same console, of a game that's releasing in four months. Additionally, TF2 is out for the PC folks this year. Shadowrun just isn't that interesting. It's Auto Assault wasteful: years and years of time and money and effort spent by a talented team for a game no one will ever play. *PLUS* it purports to be set in my favorite tabletop RPG setting, and then doesn't use a single recognizable element of said setting. :) I'd be more vitriolic, but FASA studios has been closed, some of the cowards that did this are hopefully out of jobs, and Microsoft is going to have to eat the cost of development. I think they've suffered enough. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: schild on May 29, 2007, 01:28:12 PM Ok, right, it's still fun and even if there's only a couple games going at a time online, I'll enjoy it.
Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Merusk on May 29, 2007, 02:29:45 PM It's funny how you can look at someone's place and say, "Wow, they don't plan on having kids."

The prevalence of small animal skulls is a bit creepy though. We have some large animal skulls too, if that helps. Thanks for the compliment Yeg! I do have a hankerin' to shellac the wicker to darken it up a bit. My home is my pride and joy, and I am VERY finicky about it. I spent an hour cleaning before I took those pictures. :-D Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Strazos on May 29, 2007, 03:06:52 PM Am I the only one that saw VDL's Lime Green walls, and thought, "Yeah, that makes sense"?

It keeps people from bringing their annoying kids to our house. Seriously though, we know we have to work to do when the time comes, but we've chosen to enjoy life as (relatively) care free young adults while we can. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Signe on May 29, 2007, 06:05:59 PM I love V-Lily and Sauced's house. It suits them perfectly. I love all their stuff, too!

Nah, I get it. My office is more dull than most the rest of the house, the upstairs rooms having taupe/beige/me not sure walls. You probably can't tell but my living room/kitchen/dining area has green (peppercorn?) walls, the master bedroom has yellow (goldenrod?) and the master bath has red walls. Not as BRIGHT as VDL's house but same thing, we are not afraid to diverge from white or beige. I think the light furniture is the way to go, Voo, I just don't like wicker. chair (http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15585&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=85726&langId=-1&categoryId=15940&chosenPartNumber=S19839800) Or maybe a Grand Comfort but your house isn't right for chrome. As for childproofing, we made the most child-unfriendly house ever. It's not a big deal, actually. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Zonk on May 30, 2007, 10:03:21 PM I keep trying to convince a friend to buy my regular one (just 3 months old, because MS had to replace it) so I can subsidize an Elite. I absolutely cannot stand to have different keyboards. After buying the G15 for home, I had to get one to use for work. Monitors don't bother me so much in that I use a laptop / docking station with the laptop screen up, and a second monitor attached to use as an extended desktop. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Selby on June 01, 2007, 02:01:28 PM I just got a new 19" monitor at work and a nice new mouse. It is starting to make my home system look shameful so I might end up having to go upgrade just to not be of lesser quality than work. Keyboards are no big deal, I've got this 8 year old Compaq one after my 10 year old one decided to not let the delete key or space bar work.

The carpet for some reason looks really shitty too in the picture, but it's less than a year old. I have about a half-dozen consoles from previous generations that aren't hooked up since I really didn't feel like finding places to sit them. Yeah, my TV is garbage. Does up to 1080i though, and the picture is good enough. Title: Re: Show us your gaming areas Post by: Fabricated on June 01, 2007, 03:29:07 PM The dresser drawers full of non-clothing items is a nice touch. My space is at a premium for media/games. DVD/game racks are ugly and don't have enough room. That storage area that's on the left in my TV stand is two games deep and stuffed to the brim, and that's with me having loaned nearly 10+ games to a friend of mine. And yeah, I opened the drawers for the picture. The rest is pretty much where it was after I moved a bunch of it out of the way to throw out papers/garbage.
