Picture a laptop, a mouse pad, a modem, and a glass of water on an otherwise empty desk. It's not worth a picture, trust me. Plus I don't even know if we have a camera, and if we do it's not digital and I have no scanner. I have a webcam... but it's embedded into my laptop so wouldn't do much good in this instance.

A handheld mirror might work, though you might have to manually adjust the focus if it allows for that.

Is that a scanner or oscilloscope or what on that other table below the map?

How do you like having the 360 on a monitor?

This is fun, a picture is forthcoming... I must borrow a digital camera from one of my friends.

[In the meantime imagine a squat, single-drawer sewing table from the turn of the last century, upon which sits a stereo amplifier from circa 1983. Atop that, and around it, are scattered playing cards, unopened mail, CDs, nail clippers, and other utilitarian trash. Beside that mess, stand a glowing blue XBLADE tower and a CRT monitor the size of a microwave oven. The latter is decorated with bird stickers and has a gaping hole where one of its buttons should be, but I can't complain because I only paid $5.00 for it. Honestly I'm not sure a camera will do justice to the antique filth which frames my PC.]

I can to find a camera, and then the appropriate cable.

My room is very small, and very messy.

My gaming rig is the bottom right antec case, the other desktop is fodder for diskspace and the lappy solely runs a ventrilo client (efficient i know!).

I think it works great. Since my monitor is widescreen and high resolution, I get the full effect just not on a bigger screen. The only thing that annoys me is that I can only hook up with a VGA cable (not HDMI). The only other options on this monitor would be SVideo or single-jack composite.

When we moved in, I got the small room. Not sure if you can tell.  :-P

It's a HP1670E logic analyzer.  There's a more elderly HP1661A under the table. The oscilloscope is out on loan to a friend at the moment.

The "project" table is a total mess.  Haven't had time to screw around with small electronics stuff in too long and it has just accumulated a bunch of junk.

Though, shelves would be nice, on the wall that you can't see. Part of the problem is that the wall behind my PC and 23 year old TV is the end of our condo unit. There are no outlets on that wall. Heck, I'm not even sure you could drill deep into it, as I'm not sure what it's made of.

Also, you can't see the pile of clothes next to the door. The pile of Clean clothes, because I don't have any more space in the drawers or closet.

I live in a 3,000 sq.ft. house. Arizona is cheap. That was my bedroom. I suppose I could take more pictures. Fear the incoming.

Well, I run it to my soundcard on my PC and then that pipes it to my computer speakers (so the PC has to be on). There's an amp I use for my CD player/XM Radio (you can kinda see it on the back wall in my picture) but I didn't have a long enough female->male composite audio cable. The VGA cable for the 360 comes with an adapter to turn the two audio cables into a standard stereo jack.

It amuses me how everything in Schild's room is perfectly clean, and everything is in its place.

My room? Pfft, you Could Not Pay Me to keep it in such a condition. I try to clean it up from time to time, I really do....but then I need this piece of software, or I pull something out of a box from when I moved in more than a year ago, and eventually the condition of the room just devolves back into what you see here.

SnakeCharmer: No. It's quite good. I'd use the component connection instead of VGA if I had the HDDVD Player though. The VGA connection seems to have less color depth (or is a little washed out).

Its actually a Saitek Eclipse (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=saitek+eclipse&btnG=Search&meta=), doesn't have the additional keypad but the keys are laser etched so the backlight shines through the letters too. Apart from that you were pretty much spot on.

So far, I have the smallest office/gaming room/network center of all of you. It is literally a converted closet (http://www.darniaq.com/Images/Setup-Office.jpg), 4' x 8'. The "desk" is nothing more than one section of a system I bought at Staples 9 years ago that has been too modular to throw out. Every time I think I need to cut a piece down, or toss the whole thing, it just magically works. This room abuts my kids' room, so note the lack of speakers, and the presence of the earbuds (this is my fifth pair... they keep breaking). And befitting a father of two preschoolers, note the floor courtesy of Toys R Us.

I read some consumer insight thing awhile back that talks about a man's need for a "man cave" in their house, a place of solitude for reflection or some shit. I've certainly nailed the cave part. Miraculously, both my old Athlon XP 2000 (on the floor) and new C2D e6600, cable modem, wi-fi/landline router, monitor, that MIDI Keyboard, and that external drive all operate on one power strip on one outlet, on the same circuit as two air conditioners. I'd probably tip the scale if I put back the second monitor, but as you can see, I ain't gots the room for it. So happy that monitor supports multiple inputs. Glad I don't live in brown-out country :)

Yoru, what do you think of those headphones? I've been thinking about a good pair with a mic on them.

I hate tilted keyboards, too.  Tthey keyboards make my wrists hurt.  So do those gel pads that people put in front.

I only have three pairs... everyday pair, worn-once-a-season dress pair and a ratty old pair for when I'm doing stuff outdoors that's gonna involve a lot of mud.


Those are Altec Lansing 'phones, I forget the model number. They work great for TS and shooters. The mic arm is bendable as well as having a pivot on the side, which I very much like. However, the ear cups are a wee bit small, so my ears get pressed into my head and can start to hurt if I leave them on for multiple hours.

If you don't mind having the mic detached and affixable to a surface/clothing via an alligator clip, I strongly recommend the Icemat Siberia headphones. I have them at the office and they're amazing. Best sound I've heard out of headphones, ever, and they're super SUPER comfortable, even for long-term wear. Schild has some too, I'm sure he could post a pic.

Here's mine.  Yes, that's a can of Skoal.  Despite an MBA, I'm still a redneck at heart.  Ignore the flat screen wall mount.  It's coming down as soon as we pick a color to pain the room.  I'd rather see it than 4 holes in the wall where the screws went and I patched it with spackle.  The mess of wires drives me fookin crazy, but everytime I ziptie them together or even remotely organize them, something breaks.  Or I rearrange.  Or something.   I'm really not THAT anal *twitch*

Icemat's are good. As for surround sound, eh, if you get the included USB soundcard, it mimics 7.1 just fine. Creepy fine in fact. It's funny, at the upper end of audio gear, Icemat's are reviled. But for gaming - if that's most of what you'll be doing (along with the odd mp3), they're fantastic.

I used to buy that "upper end" range of audio gear. 15 years later I'm still wishing I dumped that cash into computers instead. I wasn't having much luck with the fairer gender anyway :)

These I think will do well then. I like that they're comfortable. Years of earbuds... ugh. And I'd like to have even that mimic'd surround.

Oh the icemat ear plugs are the most comfortable ear plugs ever also.

That ranges from monopolizing camp spawns, to randoming on items you don't need, to countless examples of guilds hosing each other during raiding events.

We were quite popular on our server, having established a reputation for fairness and getting people out of rough spots. Ever lost your corpse on a deep Chardok run, but have your entire group abandon you? RA would often help with situations such as that. Remember, the summoning altars for corpses were put in place only years after Kunark's release.

Oh, I see the issue. The term 'roleplaying' used in the guild charter statement is meant very loosely. There's no real capital R role play in our guild. I mean, there is if you want there to be, but its by no means the character of the guild. The term is used in the same way that its used in say, RPG, or MMORPG. As opposed to RTS, or FPS.

I thought RP servers existed in MMOG's for two reasons:

1) As a stupid name filter.

2) As a place for people to congregate that enjoy pretending to speak in Ye Olde Englishe.  (i.e. adding -eth at the end of words, using "hark" etc.)

I'm actually debating what new shiny crap to get...oddly enough a Wii is on the menu specifically because it may not require upgrading to an HDTV right away.  If I get a 360, I'll have to also buy an HDTV because it just makes no sense to play the damn thing on a regular television.

I really want to upgrade the PC first...sadly, my easiest method would be to use my Best Buy card and just get one off the shelf....I guess I should be responsible and save dough then build one.

I have a place for my computer but only because it's a desk top computer.  If I ever get a gaming laptop, I'll no longer have a computer area.  As far as consoles go, I don't really have a gaming area.  I just flop down some place and play.  Sometimes upstairs, sometimes in the living room.  The living room is nice because Righ bought one of those big screen TVs.  I do hate the look of it though.  I don't know what we'll do if it ever breaks.  I guess we'd have to push it to a dumpster in the middle of the night and hope no one sees us.  Anyway, I'll bet Righ would like it if I decided on a gaming area.  He gets to set up where I flop down.  IT'S HIS JOB AS A MAN.  I won't though... I like being spontaneous.

PS  Why do you pay so much for a place, Hoax?  Is it the area you live in?

Okay, you're right.  The prices are awful.  I looked up townhouses, which is what we're renting, and the closest I could find was one with three beds, two baths (one less than we have now), in a crowded area with hardly any greenery, no fireplace or garage, half the square footage for more than twice the price.  EEK!  On the other hand, San Fransisco is lovely and interesting.

Paneling is a nice counter to the white walls everyone else has, and your brown shag is classic.  Kudos.

One of the gameroom walls extends down into the family room because of the stairway.  We can't decide a good color that will match the red of the hallway and the french grey of the family room without making the Gameroom a dark and horrible space.   So it remains 'queen anne's lace' (not white!)

They're not bad surround speakers, and the reason I bought it was mostly the sub. It's splendidness incarnate. I do need a pair of big stereo speakers, but they never seem to hit the top of the priority list for that price range.
I use to live in a band house. I despise messiness, though I do have a junk room for storage, that's a serious mess. You gotta have a pressure valve imo.

I would lie awake at night if my TV was off center.   I'm completely OCD about that kind of thing.  All tools have to be in perfect order.  Pictures have to be straight.

I assume you are referring to the tabletop RPG, because the released-today videogame is an affront to all that man has built over the last two thousand years? I do love it so, especially in the newest edition. I usually take a turn behind the GM screen, but right now I'm playing a Face/Hacker in a game on Tuesdays.

There's nothing wrong with the videogame being released today. It's a fine game. The ONLY problem, is it's called Shadowrun. They should've changed the name just like they did with Deus Ex: Clan Wars (to Project Snowblind). Unfortunately, they didn't. Of course, renaming Deus Ex: Clan Wars doomed it to failure. So uh, yea, i can see why they stuck with Shadowrun.

I was right with ya on the 'just ignore it' part until I played it and found out how much they were going to charge.

$60 for a game shipping with 10 maps, multiplayer online, during a free beta, on the same console, of a game that's releasing in four months. Additionally, TF2 is out for the PC folks this year. Shadowrun just isn't that interesting. It's Auto Assault wasteful: years and years of time and money and effort spent by a talented team for a game no one will ever play.

*PLUS* it purports to be set in my favorite tabletop RPG setting, and then doesn't use a single recognizable element of said setting. :)

I'd be more vitriolic, but FASA studios has been closed, some of the cowards that did this are hopefully out of jobs, and Microsoft is going to have to eat the cost of development. I think they've suffered enough.

I love V-Lily and Sauced's house.  It suits them perfectly.  The green walls look like they're the exact colour of the green mambas I saw at an exhibition once.  Of course, V-Lily having snake coloured walls doesn't surprise me at all! I love all their stuff, too!

Nah, I get it.  My office is more dull than most the rest of the house, the upstairs rooms having taupe/beige/me not sure walls.  You probably can't tell but my living room/kitchen/dining area has green (peppercorn?) walls, the master bedroom has yellow (goldenrod?) and the master bath has red walls.  Not as BRIGHT as VDL's house but same thing, we are not afraid to diverge from white or beige.

Wife hasn't commented yet on actual gaming machines being visible and not hidden away somewhere.  Setup is like a day old.. so.. some tweaking and adjustments will be required.

I keep trying to convince a friend to buy my regular one (just 3 months old, because MS had to replace it) so I can subsidize an Elite. No biting though. I've hit my 20gig max a bunch already; damn them and their $150 HDD.

Yep. I got tired of dusting them so I just shut em. I would've left the photos up but I dusted the desk like 3 days ago and never sat them up (it's photos of my dad as a Marine and my mom when she was 20.)

Work / home pics always intrigue me.

I absolutely cannot stand to have different keyboards.  After buying the G15 for home, I had to get one to use for work.

Monitors don't bother me so much in that I use a laptop / docking station with the laptop screen up, and a second monitor attached to use as an extended desktop.

I just got a new 19" monitor at work and a nice new mouse.  It is starting to make my home system look shameful so I might end up having to go upgrade just to not be of lesser quality than work.  Keyboards are no big deal, I've got this 8 year old Compaq one after my 10 year old one decided to not let the delete key or space bar work.

The wallpaper sucks. No, I didn't put it up.
The carpet for some reason looks really shitty too in the picture, but it's less than a year old.
I have about a half-dozen consoles from previous generations that aren't hooked up since I really didn't feel like finding places to sit them.
Yeah, my TV is garbage. Does up to 1080i though, and the picture is good enough.

The dresser drawers full of non-clothing items is a nice touch.

My space is at a premium for media/games. DVD/game racks are ugly and don't have enough room. That storage area that's on the left in my TV stand is two games deep and stuffed to the brim, and that's with me having loaned nearly 10+ games to a friend of mine. And yeah, I opened the drawers for the picture. The rest is pretty much where it was after I moved a bunch of it out of the way to throw out papers/garbage.

What's the sword? Are you a viking? :)
