Based on current trends, the common portable phone device in ten years will require backpack straps to carry. Its all coming full circle.

And yet they have a big ass pool in a good sized yard it looks like. Who are these people? I'm sure the house is decent sized, but packed with crap all over.

Drive 50 miles outside any large city in the American south (or anywhere in America) and you will find them. 3 acres of land, a double wide trailer, and above ground pools can be financed for less than grandma's monthly government check.

Big above-ground pools are cheap. That looks to be about 22' across, so only $5k.  Land is also cheap outside of cities. Here's 5 acres 2 counties outside of Cincinnati for 130k.  In the same area as a lot of recent development, here's 8 acres with a much better house for less than most new houses.  It would take me 44 mins to get to the office if I lived there, only about 20 mins longer than it takes to get to my current house.

Given my FJ payments, I had to pass up 40 wooded acres for $46k. Sure, they had logged the front 100y all along the access road, but there was a mint in standing timber past the easy stuff, and they did a nice job of leaving the healthy young stuff standing. And it bordered on my mother's rental place. Still wish I had that land. My buddy just sold off his farm to buy a smaller horse farm with 17 acres up on the mountain, back about ten years ago he was going to sell me his back 40 for 20k...$500/acre. There's about 10 acres a quarter mile from my house, but the guy wants a mint for it because he's fishing for developers, if I could snap it for 15-20k, I'd be all over it; wooded and backs on property along two roads. Parcel out the edges and sell them to the homeowners under thread of logging, nobody wants to lose their wooded backyard privacy.

Anyway, land is dirt cheap outside of metros. We're basically all peasants out here and can't afford to move into the cities without sacrificing all of our quality of life. It's a thing.

I think it's funnier if you read it as a quote from Jeremy Vine instead (because it's true).
