It seems like you are just designing two entirely different games and shoving them in the same box for no real reason.

Actually, that may not be a bad marketing strategy.  The "old" (2y ago) concept was to house 3-4 games in-house, each of them charging your standard $10-15/mo.  Problem is that there's a lot of reinventing the wheel involved - your graphics engine, advancement scheme, netcode, etc, etc.

Ok, instead of that setup, imagine a MMOG that has 3-4 "games" built into it.  Almost totally seperate games.  Almost, because the space game does tie into the land game, but they can mostly be played seperately.  You need never bother with one or the other if you don't want.  You'd think (perhaps wrongly) that you could cut cost through economy of scale.  You wouldn't be competing with yourself, for another.  This is a bit of an extreme approach to "have a lot of paths to success", but it might work.

"Young people who pretend to be wise to the ways of the world are mostly just cynics. Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don't learn anything. Because cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us." -SC
