So it's that time of year, and as we all know that means making a Christmas list. However, I always have a problem with this given that I'm not always aware of some of the great stuff coming out for the season. So, what are you guys asking for? What's the top 5 on your list this year?

I'm not asking for anything, but that's me.
Um...a Wii would be nice I guess.

Everyone gets a pair of these if I buy anyone anything at all. You can get them in all different colours, too. Righ has purple. I'm looking for hot pink.

That's kind of the thing, I don't have many platforms. I PC game, I have a gamecube, and that's it. I can ask for more, but that would probably be part of a package thing.

I've had a bit of a conundrum and I figured here would probably be the best place to ask.
As has been revealed the virtual console list for the Wii is a lot better than the American one. Also I'm in a semi-unique position where it'll be relatively easy for me to get a Wii in the next couple of months, although I'd also probably have to buy a cheap TV and leave it here. The dilemma I'm having is this, is it worth having the Wii a couple months before I return, and having the Japanese library of games (virtual console and not) worth having to import Japanese games when I return, or should I wait.

Do you want anything that isn't related to gaming (just asking, since you posted this in the gaming section)?
If not, then get a new console. It's a major launch season, after all.
Zelda, Madden, and a Wii...Since you like football and Nintendo games. Ask for a case of supreme Irish whiskey while you're at it. And a P Coat (just because).

I like those terabyte external drives. Everyone can use more storage space, and the thought of a terabyte gives me a warm fuzzy.

Amazon wishlist have revolutionized xmas. I actually get stuff I want now.
Band-in-a-Box Pro by PG Music Amputechture ~ The Mars Volta A Cruel Wind: A Chronicle Of The Dread Empire by Glen Cook Willie Dixon - The Master Blues Composer by Willie Dixon Art of the Shuffle by Dave Rubin Blues Turnarounds: A Compendium of Patterns and Phrases for Guitar by Rusty Zinn, Dave Rubin The Funkmasters-the Great James Brown Rhythm Sections by Allan "Dr Licks" Slutsky, Chuck Silverman Chord Chemistry by Ted Greene Marvel Ultimate Alliance Live At The Electric Ballroom ~ Freddie King In the Beginning ~ Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble Live Wire/Blues Power ~ Albert King Very Best of Phoebe Snow ~ Phoebe Snow Etta James Rocks the House ~ Etta James Live in Europe ~ Rory Gallagher Live in Cook County Jail ~ B.B. King Gothic 3 by Aspyr Media Art Of Rasgueado by Ioannis Anastassakis Complete Book of Harmonic Extensions for Guitar by Bret Willmott Stand Alone Tracks: Blues and Beyond by Mark Dziuba
So, for gaming, Gothic 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance. 2142 was taken off the list, and I think 1701AD is on there at a lower threshold. Being able to sort by highest, high, medium, etc is teh awesome. I also see Titan Quest on there at a lower threshold.

I <3 my tea press.
Not sure what we'll end up with for Christmas this year (probably a DS and a couple games). Everything we want nowadays we just go out and buy (within reason of course, silly mortgage).
My big present might come next year with my tax return (since I feel like I'm grossly overpaying, W-2 said to pay more if I'm married, which doesn't sound right). Computer ftw.

I want a new TV. My old TV's picture quality is starting to degrade. I have a sinking feeling that my video games and tv programs can be much more beautiful than they are.
A 40-42" LCD or plasma is all I want and all I'll get. Probably a LCD since the TV area can get rather bright (I've read LCDs are better in bright rooms). Wife won't budge on getting anything 50" or larger since our TV room isn't very large. I just want something.
I haven't pieced together the rest of my list. Probably be one or two games (my immediate family never buys me games, my inlaws will though), a lot of books and a few DVDs. Tennis clothes are always on the list too. I can really never have too many.

I have some games on my Wishlist, and a DVD of The Black Hole which my wife says she will never buy me. Otherwise, I just asked for some pants.

Good god those pants are pricy. Are they super uber or something? I'm not cheap either, when it comes to pants; eddie bauer and jcrew for me!

I should get back to nature, too. You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer. Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached. Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Those pants are indeed uber. As uber as pants can get, anyway. I have one pair that was also a gift, and they are my favorite pants. If you can get them for $20, you should do so. This gift request was specifically aimed at my mother-in-law, who has a lot more money than I do.
EDIT: Although I'm now trying to figure out how to get one of those 36V circular saws now. The video is like porn for do-it-yourselfers.

Wife won't budge on getting anything 50" or larger since our TV room isn't very large. Seriously, it isn't. My dad let his wife pull the same stunt. Now he's got a dinky 40" set that's about the same size as his old tv. His wife won't even let him game on it, even though it's a nice little 1080p DLP. I've never heard anyone say my tv (61") is too small for my crappy and tiny apartment. It's great for football, movies, whatever. I was just asking my girlfriend, who is not really into technology, and she says she thinks it's perfect. It's big, sure. It dominates a corner. But for viewing, it's perfect. I know I get ragged for my apparent 'tv fetish' (as if you folks don't stare at monitors and tvs for hours, too). I took a chance, bought quality, and haven't been unhappy with it at all. I, too, though it may be too big for the space, given some wacky 'optimal viewing distance' formulas some websites were concocting. That's just nonsense. I'll take some of that dewalt pron, too. Good stuff.

I own a pair of Koss headphones and fairly happy with them. What makes me recommend Koss is no questions asked lifetime warranty. I broke my headphones twice since 5 years I bought them, they replaced it without any questions. I'm sure in years to come I will break them again.

Which kind do you have? Are they Noise Canceling? I do a lot of traveling on airplanes, so I need something with good ANR, is comfortable, and isn't too big.

I've got a 36" older set in the room and it's really plenty big enough for me. We've got a nice house with nice decorations and nice furniture. Everything's got to fit somehow. I know it means jack to you, but it means the world for her. So, I'm willing to make concessions. It's a good sized place but seriously, the TV area is just small. Our main furniture in the room is a small couch and a smallish leather chair. A very large set, would just look like clownshoes in the room. Whatever we get will also likely be wall mounted due to space and cat concerns (I really don't want them knocking it over). And any new TV is going to mean new furniture (I don't think our current console will work), some new speakers, and whatever else. So there won't really be any savings going with a smaller set. Once I have a properly large TV room, I will "go big". Until then, I just want widescreen, marginally bigger than what I have now, and in HD.

Seriously, Rasix. Clownshoe? Your 36" 300 lbs tv is the clownshoe when you wheel in a 4.5" thick 48" wall mount. Even a 60" projection LCD is about a foot thick, tops, and weighs under 100lbs.

Not worried about the depth, more the width of that TV in a small area. A wall mounted 48" would probably work a lot better. Again, I'm not concerned with the size. Ohh, and the 36" probably weighs 500lbs I also want a new lawnmower. A nice push mower would be great for the small lawn. The electric mower (with cord) scares the crap out of me (it was a bad gift). Please no one try and convince me a need a John Deere riding mower. Classic.

My parents picked up a 40" Samsung LCD because they wanted HD Widescreen and are super happy with the size of that tv. A nice 40" LCD is nothing to sneer at imo

I really love these. So long as you know how to use them and seal them in the ear canal I find them much better than any sort of active noise cancelling tech. It's basically just an earplug that pipes music in. I wear them whenever I'm commuting on the train or subway to drown out the filth of humanity around me. On an airplane I'd be worried that having a sealed ear canal might do something very bad when the pressure changes though, I don't know if that's a problem. This is a good page with a lot of comparisons. For Christmas I usually just ask for TV on DVD, mostly seasons of shows that, while I liked them, I can't justify spending my own money on them.

Heh, I remember back in the day with 32" and 36" TV sets were above average in size.
I think I might have to make a concerted effort to skip this thread. I think I am skipping this holiday this year, so what would be the point is teasing myself?

I have PRO4AAAT and I yet to find situation where I would need noise canceling, but I use my headphones mostly at home. While wearing them I cannot hear anybody talking loudly to me without taking headphones off first. I also like sound quality - it is actually comparable to my Energy C series surround sound system when it is in stereo mode and headphones cost less than 10% of sound system price. I drive both off my receiver, so signal clarity and power is not an issue.
