I hope that is true. Anything to help in the war against obesity.
Diet Coke The cost of a 12-pack of soda has doubled in the last five years here. $6/12 pack, which is more than I was paying at a vending machine a few years ago. When Coke products go on sale, I buy the maximum allowable amount every day. Because Pepsico's distributor has our region sewn up tight. Pepsi products are on sale almost every week and in almost every restaurant (I can't think of one with TCCC products outside fast food chains). Coke products go on sale about every six weeks, and you have to hope it's a decent sale (the current 3 12 packs for $11 is meh...it was 4 for $10 two months ago, which was the last sale). The average price of a Coca-Cola sale down here is $3 per 12 pack. Which is every 3 weeks or so.

Yep. I drink water and the occasional craft beer. I drink way less than I used to, but as long as pop is still less than half the price of well, any option other than water - people will still drink pop. I can't justify $4.59 for a litre of orange juice, thanks. I'm a bit of a weirdo in that I drink a ton of dealchoholized beer. Molson Excel costs me about $7 - $8 per 12 pack, compared to say $20 - $22 for real beer, and once I got used to the taste, it satisfies my "urge" for beer. Also, I think it makes me appreciate the real stuff all that much more when I have it when I go out.

I dont drink fruit juice either. Other than some OJ's (not from concentrate) most "fruit juice" is nothing more than flavored sugar water with no discernible nutritional value. For example- Right after surgery I was looking for soft foods I could easily eat and digest, that would be healthy for me. Found these squeeze tubes of organic fruit at Whole Foods. http://www.peterrabbitorganics.com/fruit-snacks/mango-banana-and-orange.htmSure they are organic. But despite containing Mango they have 0% of vitamin A, despite the fact Mango is normally a great source of vitamin A. And the only reason they contain vitamin C is due to the added lemon juice concentrate. So basically its organic fruit sugar "sauce". Going through surgery and trying to find nutritious foods to eat afterwards really opened my eyes to how many "organic" fruit products (sauces, juices and pre-made smoothies) out there are pure crap. Guess this info will come in handy since my wife is pregnant and I now know not to feed any of this junk to my kids. I will just give them the raw fruit or make fruit smoothies at home ourselves. Edit: I speel good.

Eating anything "fruit" other than just going to the produce section is a crapshoot.
I eat bananas, peaches, grapes, and apples. Sometimes I put them together in a cut up salad with a little lime zest, juice, and honey.

When I was working in the grocery store 12 years ago the deal sale in Texas was 2 12 packs for $5. Out here it's like $5.50-6.00 when on sale. I don't drink the stuff as a result (not only for my health).

Does it still taste like everything else with aspartame/saccharin in it? Also, anyone know why they pulled sucralose out of everything? It actually seemed the most like sugar of the artificial sweeteners thus far.

Does it still taste like everything else with aspartame/saccharin in it? No. If you're really sensitive to the taste of them, (as I am) you do still get an after-taste but the actual beverage is great, unlike diet coke/ pepsi/ most other diet beverages. Coke Zero and Diet Dr. Pepper are the only two diet sodas I can stand the taste of, and they both taste almost exactly like their calorie-filled forefathers.

Sold as Smarties here in the US. I've never seen the Nestle version and wouldn't want them, since the "real" Smarties are delicious sugar overload.

Smarties in Canada are chocolate filled and closer to M&Ms. You only get rockets as the cheapest crap candy at Halloween.

Which is coincidentally the only time I buy Smarties. I wonder if there's a connection?

I had a (non-Cherry) Coke Zero last week - it tasted just like Diet Coke used to, at least to me. Guess it's a good excuse to stay off the caffeine wagon at this point, in any case.

Coke zero tastes too much like regular coke to me. I know that's supposed to be a good thing, but I prefer diet coke because it doesn't have the "thick, syrupy" taste that regular coke has.
I'm broken.

While we're speaking of broken, back when I worked at the movie theater, it always boggled me how many people came in and ordered "a large popcorn with extra extra extra butter and a large Diet Coke." Along with the people who got mad when you didn't fill the $3.50 large drink TO THE RIM with ice before adding soda. Yeah, thought you might like more than 2-3 mouthfulls for your money...

Cherry Coke Zero is liquid crack. If there was a caffeine free version I would drink nothing else, and probably end up on some news magazine show as a cautionary tale when I grew a third kidney or something. Cherry Coke reminds me of when I was a kid and the local movie theatre first started carrying it in the fountain. Seen a lot of fun movies (and more than a few terrible ones) with a good sugar/caffeine buzz and a full bladder

It is funny, I see everyone talk about all the different varieties of Diet/Regular soft drink type beverages they like/dislike and I try to remember back to when I actually knew what any of them taste like.
I have not had a caffeinated beverage in almost 3 years and no soda at all for over a year.
I do occasionally have a craving for Sun Drop because they sell it where I live now (used to have to drive to Wisconsin to get it) but I am able to keep myself from going off that deep end again.

Pretty much the same for me, except I still drink coffee in the morning. And once in a blue moon I might have one of these: http://www.jonessoda.com/ They come in glass bottles and use natural cane sugar.

Diet Dr Pepper and Diet Orange Crush are my sodas. I enjoyed Vanilla Coke and Cherry Coke too when they were available up here but the exotic flavours rarely seem to last in my area.

The one good thing about living in Atlanta is that we get every offering of Coke they have currently available. Except new Coke.

All this soda talk is making me miss my good ol' Dr. Pepper that I used to consume in mass quantities 10 years ago. Now I drink so little soda it almost always makes me feel sick to my stomach after 1/2 can, so I rarely drink it.

Somehow I think losing a kidney to be a far more likely outcome than gaining one.

I feel like maybe we've had this same conversation before.... Having just moved (back) to Denmark, I was glad to see that they had Cherry Coke Zero! Yay! But! They fucking swapped out whatever gives the cherry flavoring with something else (knowing the regs in Denmark, they probably are forced to used something that won't make you grow that third kidney). It tastes absolutely fucking horrible. Thankfully the regualry Coke Zero is still decent, but fuck, was I disappointed. I think I am going to re-give up soda for a while again.

Never seen Cherry Coke Zero in the UK, which is a shame because I would probably actually buy and drink that from time to time since I think Diet Cherry Coke tastes wrong. I used to moan about the impossibility of finding Root Beer in the UK as well but actually that probably saved me from massive amounts of weight gain. I would really like a nice calorie free version of root beer here though. That'd be schweet.
