Get offa my lawn! And I thankfully remember nothing of shorts like that.

What about those pastel plaid ones from a couple years before?

I feel like I'm getting old until I listen to guys at work talk about things they did and people they know... that all happened before I was born (when they were still working there).  Then I realize I'm a lot younger than I think.  That's the solution, hang out with people 25-35+ years older than you.  My ex-girlfriend can confirm.

The guys 20-25 years older than me are owners of the firm and don't hang out with my plebeian ass.

I'm about the 5th or 6th oldest person in my Studio of 40.  My business cards even say "Senior" on them even though I just started full time.  I'm gettin' old.

Can any of you computer people explain why Facebook needs to change their look every month?  They go from one fully functional setup to another irritatingly different until you get used to it fully functional setup.
Because of business people.  Computer people hate futzing with stuff once it's working.

I give 1988 a C minus.  Maybe a C, at best.
'88 was definitely a full-blown F.  Only the year my best friend did the same to himself was worse.

I think I'm on the wrong contract at work, my normal emails are, "need this now", "urgent", "tomorrow isn't good enough", "it's fucking broke again", meanwhile ended up on a distribution list for people supporting the same shit as me on different contracts and their emails are all "I brought cakes today", "happy birthday Paul" & "save me some biscuits".

Actually, I have good reason to believe that the hysteria is driven by people that want to see the stock market fluctuate so they can buy and sell.  Today would have been a great day to buy.

You can't know that, you can't time the market.  When the dow used to be at 14k and it went down to 13k would you have called that a great time to buy, and then watched it slide down to 7k?  It's almost assumed that Greece is going to default and who knows what that might kick off.

"Timing" the markets is generally not thought well of, sure.   The buy low and sell high strategy is what you're aiming for though  awesome, for real.  If a stock that has a low P/E ratio lost a lot of value today, it would be a good time to buy.  Could you get burned?  Sure, but it's not likely.  Regardless, if the stock market loses 50% of it's value in a day we're all fucked.

Day traders are generally morons. They are about the same as sports gamblers who think they can beat the system and make it out big.

Eventually, the house wins, and you lose.

There's a big difference between day trading and buying on opportunity.  Day trading is generally idiotic.  However, if you were looking for an opportunity to buy a stock, yesterday and today are a great time.

Yes, you want to buy at the right time. However, you need to buy on actual reasoning and not just because you think the stock is undervalued. I'd like to know the amount of investors who actively trade on such philosophies that ever opened the financials of their investments.

If it is properly valued and gives a decent dividend?

Is there really a reason to buy other than the stock being undervalued?

Potential growth. The stock may be precisely valued at that point in time, but the dividends and future cash flows of the company will continue to produce investor returns.

People buying stock to sell it at a higher point without regard to the inner workings of the company aren't basing their decisions on anything more than market manipulations, which has no actual basis in economic reality.
