Well, I am proper fucked. There is a decent chance I will be stuck on a jury for a trial that lasts until 7-July. I get 5 days of paid jury duty time, after which it comes out of my vacation or I just don't get paid. In addition to that, I am the only person who does my particular job, and we have an EXTREMELY high profile deliverable that absolutely must go out a week from today. I am in the office today and Monday and then back in court. Looks like I get to work the weekend, and get to cancel all my vacation plans (had 3 separate events planned) since this would eat all my remaining time.

FUCK.

Depends on the state, I believe.  I'm pretty sure in OH & KY they just can't fire you for not being there.  They don't have to pay you.

That sucks, Way.

We're taking the kids to Disney in September.  They'll be 2.75 and 1 at the time.  I'm not optimistic at this point.   The older boy is trantrum fest right now.

That sounds like misery.  What can you actually do in Disney with a bunch of sprogs too wee to ride the rides?

Agree.  Take some grandparents and have some fun while the feebles go nap.

I've ended up in a church service twice this year, and I'm sensing a pattern already.

So I was handed a Cuban Cigar this weekend. Know next to nothing about cigars, other than I like to smoke them about once a year if I'm drunk. My plan was to hold on to it until my second nephew/niece is born, as my sister is due right around Christmas, when I'll likely be visiting. Thought it would be nice to share with the Brother-in-law.

My question is, what's the best way to store a cigar for six+ months?

So just got the news on the husband's sudden toothache.  Turns out the tooth he had a root canal on two years ago, the one where the dentist (not our usual one) said that there were only 3 roots but noted that that kind of tooth can sometimes have 4 roots, really did have 4 roots.  So it's now majorly infected to the point where even the husband could see it right off on the x-ray.  Ugh.  Dentist didn't even want to handle it and referred the husband to a specialist (endo-something?) who's office was already closed for the day.  He's hoping they can get him in tomorrow and/or otherwise see him right off on Monday.  For now, he's got a powerful antibiotic for the infection and a Vicoden prescription for overnights to handle the pain.  I guess he's already leaning towards the "pull it out" option.

I think freezing it in a vacuum bag would be the 2nd best option after that.

Unfortunately, this wasn't exactly my choice.  The older boy will have fun, but he probably won't remember a damned thing.  I'm stoked to be able to go to the Lego store they have there.  That will make it worth the pain.

Wait, is that legal?
I had a judge claim that "not getting paid for work" wasn't a valid excuse to get out of jury duty in his court and he would hold you in contempt and put you in jail if you whined about it enough or refused to do it.  Granted, several people were whining pretty badly about it, so I'm not sure how serious he was or if he could actually do that (not actually being a lawyer and whatnot).  I was glad I was last in line and missed out being chosen by 2 people since it was a hardass judge on a bullshit misdemeanor.

The one time I actually got called in for jury duty, it was while I was in college, it was at the start of summer, and it was a big case that was going to go for a couple of months.  I explained to the judge that if I couldn't work for most of the summer, I wouldn't be able to pay my tuition for the following year, and my college career would pretty much be fucked.  He grumbled a lot but he let me out of it.

Not so sure that is a good idea.  The key to a cigar is moisture. If you freeze it, even vacuum packed, you are freezing the water that is in the cigar which will either crystallize or wreak havoc when you thaw it out.

Humidor or smoke it.  Frankly Cuban cigars aren't all they are cracked up to be as the good makers all left and are in central america now.

On jury duty, its why on long trials you end up with a bunch of teachers (if it is in the summer), retired people, and federal employees as all three of those can do it without too much economic hardship.  I feel bad for you Way, that sucks.

Legoland is more fun for little kids in my experience.  The Lego store is pretty cool near Disneyland and has some more interesting stuff (like the bulk, pack your own section) than the Lego store at Legoland which is (bizarrely) not owned by Lego.

They increased the size of the Downtown Disney Lego store? That's awesome.  With the retail outlets popping up in malls I'd thought it was starting to look a little worn and tired when we were there in 08.   Did they add any new Lego Sculptures?

This one was always my favorite.  It's just such a happy sea serpent.

The food there was delicious... I mean five or seven courses with the wine paring and afterwards I just felt this glow....
(It might be that I had also had five to seven glasses of wine....)

My only point was that it is better than leaving it sitting on the counter for 6 months, of course a humidor is better.  Most people aren't going to buy a humidor for 1 cigar.

So apropos of nothing, I stumbled upon a thread of mine from 2005, and...

Wow. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or facepalm (I think a little of both occurred). Was certainly a blast from the past...but it just seems everyone around here has (for the most part) become more...serious.  Ohhhhh, I see.
