All the tornadoes the last two days were at least 20 miles south of us. My wife got to watch one go by about 1-2 miles from our back deck last week, and has been sufficiently freaked the fuck out since. I feel for all those folks in Alabama though. They got fucking hammered.

I was going to comment on how wet and cold it's been up here lately, but it seemed a little weak in comparison to flooding and tornadoes. Then I remembered that one of the reasons I live here, is that a little cold and wet is pretty much the worst it ever gets here, weather wise.

Flood here hit full on today. Had a meeting with the executive director of the sewer district, they are officially closing the flood gates and putting up flood walls around the city. If your property is outside of those walls, well good luck.

Additionally I have family near Birmingham, AL I havent heard from them. We are hoping everything is okay.

God hates me. Fucking dishwasher is now acting fritzy. "We're going to make some noise, but not fill with water. Or do anything. But we'll go through the cycle."

Go in, mess around with the fucking float and hope that's it because once I've checked the float and insured the water is actually on, I am done with home troubleshooting.

Kick it a few times. Start and stop it. Finally starts working. If I can nurse it along a month or -- god forbid -- wash shit by hand, I can get a new energy efficient one and cut my power and electrical bills a bit. And get cleaner dishes. I hear some of the Samsung models are nice....

Elena wanted to play Portal and she's quite good at the puzzles.  Alas, she understands far too well;  one minute she was sitting quiet, the next she burst into tears because I'd incinerated the Companion Cube.

So I no longer am in the "I don't own a TV crowd". My mom came to visit and when I was looking around the TV area in Best Buy for a set top device to do netflix streaming to show her, we came accross a 40 inch Sharp that was Open Box for 440 bucks. So she bought me a TV to a) have something to do when she comes to visit and b) to give me an incentive to unpack the boxes along the wall in the living room.

I also picked up a 150 dollar Blu-ray player that does Netflix streaming. Video quality even with my shitty DSL connection is quite good. Of course now I need to run an ethernet wire through the basement to my office.

Sadly, even with an antenna I only get CBS and ABC.

What kind of antenna?  If anyone ever gets serious about the "no cable" thing, they quickly learn you need to go back to the rooftop ariel units with directionality motors.  Digital transmission is yes/no and much shorter range than analog was.  No more "Hey look, we get that Dayton channel with just a little bit of fuzz to it. nifty."

Oh, and grats on the TV. Nice deal.

It is just one of those 25 dollar Radio Shack rabbit ear things.

I am not overly concerned, I can watch the news if I find the desire to. Just wish I could get PBS as one of the stations I do get.

Yeah, I'm sending you my good dental vibes.   why so serious?

Actually, if you take ibuprofen 400 mg every 6 hours as directed on the bottle (whether it hurts or not) you will be doing great things for yourself.

Edit:  I would recommend 600 mg, if I were your doctor.  But I'm not.   Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

Every time I've had ibuprofen prescribed the dosage is 800 mg.
