Do you have any idea how she did it?  That sucks so bad, man.  We have dachshunds and the little bastards insist on diving off of the couch and up and down stairs despite the possibility of back issues.  Of course that's a high dollar deal, too.

No idea. The vet said some dogs are just predisposed to having it happen. She said there is a chance they are only partially torn and may heal with limiting her exercise and a combo of antiimflamatory and pain meds so we are going to try that first.  She's actually very functional, she just gets stiff back legs if she runs too much and doesn't like going up stairs. We've been operating under the thought that she might have dysplasia but the xrays showed that wasn't the case so the ligament damage is the new operating theory.

This is some crazy shit.  Missiles are being launched of the coast of California and the US government seems to be very hazy about what it actually was.

Interesting shit.

This is a funny explanation for the Missile Mystery  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?.  Some guy plausibly explains that it is probably just a jet.  It's a good read though, because of the batshit crazy people that post at the bottom.

Vandenburg AFB is the home of the Missile Defense Agency testing grounds. Could very well have been them.

And if it was, it cost the taxpayers 600million bucks to boot!

Ha.  That's worth it if it was stuck somewhere obscure, but otherwise, ha.

I once paid a chap similar to remove gunk from the washing machine drying tube.  That was really gross, but it taught me to do it the 3 other times it was needed.

I think those kind of things are worth it in the "teach a man to fish" vibe. I felt that way when people fixed my computer in the past.

Yep.  I felt the same way when I got charged nearly $400 for a plumber to cut a hole in some sheet rock and put a clamp on a leaking pipe...

I totally didn't feel that way watching a guy chop down five trees in my yard for $2600.

Should start cutting down trees. Lots of stuff to burn, and you get paid to take it!

Hell, /I/ should start a tree service, heh.

edit: In other useless news, my fiancee just seriously mentioned San Antonio.

If only I had good job hunt news.

Am getting to the point where the job I quit might just be preferable to my current state of no job-ness.

So in the everlasting search for some kind of employment, I decided to throw pride away and apply for a UPS package tossing job.

The UPS website when you set up a profile has a number of "security" questions. One of them is "What is the make of your first car?"

The fun part? IT REQUIRES AN 8 CHARACTER ANSWER.

Most fucking car companies have names shorter than 8 letters for fuck's sake.

It also doesn't ask for any work history or references. Just "can you work 4-8am, are you able to work in hot/cold and lift 70 lbs, can you read".

Oh well.

Time to apply at FedEx Ground (their main midwest hub is here). And apparently they have not even seasonal package handler jobs posted.....sigh.

If that is pre-/reloading their delivery trucks, then it is a fun job. Great way to get some stress out of your system. And at least here in Germany they pay rather well.

Honestly, in this market there is no such thing as a bad job as long as it's not illegal and can pay some of your support. I've worked as a caddy, one of those dudes at Best Buy, as a temp for a Biomass company, as a temp for a non-profit, and as a bartender.

That's before I got the office job.

I spent 2 years as a tier2 tech support rep at a small ISP (the job I quit because they paid shit and worked us like dogs/refused to hire more staff).

Previous to that I had done misc temp office jobs for a couple of years.

I spent 5 years working as a scenic carpenter/welder building scenery after I graduated college.

My only "job" right now is a network admin for a private dorm. I do about 2 hours a week fixing internet issues for students and doing desktop support.
