Things Ironwood could be doing with his spare time:
- Golf - Getting lap dances from hot naked stripper chicks - Catassing his way up the ladder in his MMO of choice - Sorting through his endless pile of money and sending some of it to me in the mail - Ballroom dancing lessons with the wife - Viewing porn - Fitness club - Sleeping all fucking day - Splitting wood?

We're a miserable cunt of a race mate.
That's why we love Scots. Also, if you are independently wealthy but hating not working, give me all your money and go the fuck back to work, you lazy cunt.

Also, funny you should say splitting wood. Bought myself a nice Chimnea and I'm going to be spending the next couple of days just BURNING SHIT.
This has required me to harvest more vespene gas minerals wood.
I do love burning stuff.
Also, porn and MMO - check and check. Got bored of both.
Ballroom dancing, really ?

Ahahaha.
If you'd heard me sing or play, you wouldn't ask me to do that to humanity.
If you've seen my 'still lives', you'd know I only paint bleeding whores, gasping their last and, well, no-one wants to see that.
I am back to writing though, so well played, but I still have itchy, itchy, itchy fucking palms.
I feel I should be DOING something.
Ach well. Useless conversation, right ?

Pretty soon I'm going to be eligible for a month-long paid sabbatical from work, and I'm planning to do many of the same things that Ironwood's up to now. Mainly attacking the yard, which is home to a monstrous thicket of blackberries and a veritable forest of weeds (mallows) that are literally as tall as the house. Hence my offer to have him come stay with us for a bit -- be fabulous if all that was already done and I could be unproductive instead.

New job in a week. Woop. Ironwood. Time off from work for me would mean home improvement. I think you said you had everything complete in the garden, so maybe you need something else to do. Check for leaky things or squeaky things, at home and also at the pub.

Dammit. One of the fire alarms just started chirping out of the blue, so now I get to play "is it this one?" until I figure out which one it is and pull the battery. *sigh* We needed more 9v batteries anyways...

There is an actuarial table floating around my office compiled by Boeing. It graphs months of pension payment vs retirement age. The average worker who retires at 65 collects 1.5 years of pension payments. Those that retire at 55 collect ~29 years of payments (84 yrs old). You may want to weigh the penalty of reading The Black Company in perspective of the alternative...

It's awfully summery now that I'm home. The yard is about 18" tall, the whole area looks like it's been flooded for weeks, and one of the trees is starting to lean far enough to crack the sidewalk.
Ah, the joys of home ownership.

You are terribly responsible. In more Ironwoody news, I did remember one of my hobbies that I have left to rot along with everything else I love to do other than type UNIX commands all night long: woodworking. Now, I don't know if you have the workshop to do this, but personally I am excited that one day I might be able to build something out of wood. My first task is to build the workbench that I am going to use; I see this as some MMO task where I have to first craft my craft tools. I have a mental plan for the bench already and several reference designs. Lots of tools, also.

You are terribly responsible. It helps that the # of smoke detectors in my house coincides with the number of 9v batteries in a pack from Sam's Club. Don't use the damn things for anything else.

I have a pic of my workbench 0.1 and 0.2. 0.1 was two rickety sawhorses I found in the shed and a piece of plywood leftover from a roofing project (the shed) and had warped. 0.2 was a couple of the stanley plastic sawhorses (they're decent) with a better sheet of plywood. I don't have much in the way of tools, but one of my bigger needs right now is a) stability in the workbench and b) a good vise (or two). After the trim project came out so nicely, I really, really want to put together a console table because after two years of looking, I can't find one in the right dimensions, so I've been drawing up plans to make a custom table that fits exactly in the corner. It should be a good laugh, since there would be a bunch of mortise and tenons, I have no vise, crappy chisels and little woodworking skill. But I've conquered my fear of failing and figure at least it will be something better than nothing until I'm good enough to make the one I want.

spent a few hundred bucks getting two things framed. I had intended to hang them side by side, given that both prints had the same dimensions I just assumed that their frames would have the same sizes.... one is about 1cm shorter than the other and it noticeable... called the framers and was pleasently surprised when they said, no problem they will fix it at no cost to me.

My DSL was dead this morning and my wife woke me about it. I spend a decent amount of time on the phone with a nice lady about it, and eventually she decided my modem is fried since she doesn't see any issues on the network. The new one would arrive in 2-3 days. Later, on my way back from Lowe's... I decided to cowboy up and finish installing that new hot water dispenser and needed more fittings... I see a AT+T van at the box. No, I don't remember what the boxes are called. I considered yelling out the window of the pickup truck "You got mah innernet fixed, boy?" but skipped it. Later that afternoon I see my DSL light is green instead of flashy red. Great! Too bad I had reset the modem. I had to go in and set the PPP login info, then try to remember how the hell I had configured the network. Fortunately it's not rocket surgery and I eventually had everything connected like it is supposed to be. Seems faster, too, but I do love to imagine such things. I am trying very hard to not consider what else around here is going to break. There was also a pool pump, a pool hose, the pool cleaner robot, both HVAC units, the corporate Blackberry, and my PS3.

NIM or NID. Depending on company/network infrastructure.

Split another couple face cords on Saturday. Perfect day, mid-70s, good breeze around 12mph steady, sunny. Only downside was that about a face cord of it was the 'shit end' of the pile, the twisty gnarly multi-knotted nightmares. I got about half of those split with the new axe which still amazes me. With the regular rounds without crazy grains or knots, it's much faster than a hydraulic splitter. I think next spring I might challenge my neighbor who uses a hydraulic splitter to a speed contest :)
Now all my wood is split and stacked for this year (2 4x4x8 full cords, 3 4'x8'x16" face cords to a full cord). I need to get next year's delivered so I can continue my workout program. Splitting and stacking wood is pretty awesome for the old body.

I should get back to nature, too. You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer. Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached. Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

I'm pretty sure I could have gotten the jury members to do whatever I wanted when I was the foreman. None of them were very bright and they just wanted someone to make a decision for them so they could leave. The lawyers also seem to bank on the fact that the people serving aren't very bright.

They definitely do not like free thinkers. The prosecution axed me very quickly when I told them moral arguments against prostitution shouldn't be the State's business. Only one other guy out of the entire jury pool agreed with me. (I'm not sure if he agreed or just saw it as the fast way out.) Both gone in the first round.

The last jury I was on, the defense attorney polled the entire jury pool and asked if we were "more emotional or more logical." Being an MBTI aficionado, I knew exactly what he was up to, so I was sure to make my answer "emotional, but overall balanced." The defense lawyer squirmed as half of the remaining jury answered "balanced." It was a personal injury lawsuit. Anyone who answered "emotional" was struck. In the end, the other "balanced" person and I held out while the other 10 "logicals" hurriedly signed the verdict so they could go home.

I saw a truck in the parking lot today. It was a huge black Dodge Ram 2500. Usually in the south you see stickers on the back of those trucks with Calvin pissing on something or Ducks Unlimited. On the back window of this particular truck? A Twilight movie sticker.
