A company I interviewed with sent me to a website to fill out a bunch of information.  It said that it was time sensitive and that I had 3 business days to complete it.  I filled it all out and submitted it electronically immediately.

10 days later (today) I realized I was supposed to print and fax a portion of it back to them.  Whoops.

Wait, why on earth would they require you to fax something that was filled out and submitted online?  That makes no sense.

Sorry you missed sending in the information though, wonder if there's any way for you to resubmit that info for them.

Yeah, that's why I didn't read the part about sending in a fax.  I just thought that would be for paranoid people who didn't trust e-filing.

Well, I sent it in just now.  I'll call HR and see if that's ok or if I need to call the hiring manager and see if we can start the process again.

I often have odd instructions like this in my application materials (for postdoc and tech positions) just to see if people are capable of following written instructions.  They work.

Similarly, I enjoy giving students quizzes where I state, very obviously at the top of the page, that the answer to every questions is "B".  The results are always humorous, particularly when these students insist that they want to be physicians and pharmacists.

I have a strange feeling this was covered in one of the discussions we had when the pharmacists I worked with would explain how they learned to be "anal".

It's probably because they had me or some asshole like me as a prof in Pharmacy School.

I can't decide if this is ironic and sad or just plain sad.

Metra Executive Director killed by a Metra train.   Guy apparently jumped in front of a train this morning before an afternoon meeting about misconduct charges.

The Tribune Breaking News article title is a bit swamp poop - Metra chief killed by train hours before meeting on his fate.

Sad as it is, it does make me glad I don't ride the train any longer.  Sucks sitting there for 2+ hours until the train can leave when stuff like this happens.

I was asking myself that same question and decided it would have been ironic if it wasn't intentional/suicide. After coming up with that conclusion, I was just upset that he caused me to be late to work (I work about a mile from the scene). Sadly, this stuff has been more common over the last year or two from what I'm hearing from friends who take the train.

Edit:
Note: I'd be more sympathetic if the guy didn't steal from Metra and didn't commute suicide, and I do feel sad for those he left behind where their only involvement in this is that of having lost a loved one.

Though I do think he's a little more awesome since when they checked his wallet, they found this:

Metra officials have been told that Pagano's wallet was found on his body, along with a copy of Metra's procedures on how to handle a service disruption after a suicide, a source said.
 why so serious?

Okay, that wallet find is hilarious.  I feel bad for the engineers and conductors though.  It would really suck having to see some idiot on the tracks and not be able to do anything about it.  I was lucky that I was on the train only once in 5 years when something like this happened (Idiot kids were playing chicken with the 5:16 out of Chicago when it was going through Cary.  Some 15 year old darwined himself) and the feel of the train slamming on the breaks, especially when you're already standing up in the last car getting ready to get off in CL.. scary.

Yes, double posting -

Job situation is definitely on the upswing.  Not only did a have a good pair of interviews yesterday at what sounds like a great company to work at, but I got a response back already from an internet app I submit this morning, asking what times would be good for a phone interview next week.

It is a little weird, considering the area and all.

Also, I never thought about the conductors in this scenario. That really would be an awful experience.

It's normal, the employment situation flipped in January about as I was expecting.
THIS {Unemployed (UNEMPLOY), Monthly, Percent Change from Year Ago, Seasonally Adjusted} runs roughly 150 basis points above the rate of change annually for the actual unemployment rate.

So, Uwe Boll gets a few bucks if he's the winner.  What would the other guy get if he wins?  The movie?  That hardly seems fair.

So on a whim, I decided last night that we were going to try Dominos new pizza, the one with all the satisfied customers in the commercial praising the robustness of the new sauce and the wonderfulness of the crust.

Not surprisingly, that shit is still fucking awful.  It really is terrible, terrible pizza, and they should be fucking ashamed of themselves.  Ironically, I'm starting to think that it's the cheese that's the whole problem, and they sure as shit didn't change anything there.

I mean, okay, Dominos Pizza was never the pinnacle of what good pizza should be...but 10, 15 years ago that shit was at least edible.

The new Dominos is pretty much old dominos + garlic butter brushed crust.  It's pretty shitty.   I blame my daughter for making me try it again.  Her favorite is Papa Johns, which I also hate.  That sickeningly sweet sauce is repulsive.

Yeah, I noticed the brushed crust.  Wasn't impressed, but okay.  The sauce is supposed to be improved, but I couldn't tell any difference.  I'm going to reiterate that I think it might be the cheese.  It tastes wrong, and the consistency of it is fucking terrible.  Not cheese-like at all.

Chain store pizza is only useful in the wastelands that don't have good independent pizza stores or if you're too wasted to drive and collect from one.

Yeah, and we actually have a good couple of them nearby.  I just had some strange idea to see if Dominos was full of shit or not.  They were.  It'll be at least 3 years before I repeat that mistake again.

My town is heavily italian and used to have a couple pages in the yellow pages dedicated to pizza. Now there's a handful of places with surly part-time help that can't make a decent fucking pie to save their lives. I make my own, but without a brick oven, you're just not going to get the right bake. We've been doing a circuit of all the pizza joints in town because I hate pizza hut (her favorite) and I won't patronize domino's or little caeser's.

Most people have never really eaten pizza, just pale imitations.

Hmm, can't find any place better to put this...

Anyone good at designing business cards? I have a job title change coming in the next month or so, and I've been meaning to pick up the "nice" cards, but I suck at design, so I'd like a second opinion before I actually put the order in. Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

Photoshop and various other apps have templates for such things built right in. I would start there.

I don't mind Little Caesar's since at least they aren't price gouging for their shitty product like Domino's, Papa John's, and Pizza Hut. If I have to choose between those major chains, I'm going LC's since I may as well save a few bucks for the same god awful quality. Though I'm just thankful that I'm back to living in the Chicagoland/Northern IL area when it comes to pizza and almost never have to give any of them the slightest of consideration.

Being in Upstate NY, we tend to get more 'attempts' at a NY style paper-thin crust, but at least I can get some really good wings at most local places. The chicago deep dish is a bit over the top imo, but I'd rather have that then have the crust too thin. If you have to fold it, it's a shitty pizza  why so serious? (I just had a crappy NY style on friday, so I'm still upset about it).

But at least the oven was halfway decent for a non-brick, the crust was nice and authentic. The one we had a couple weeks ago was worse than a store-bought crust, ffs. It was almost like a soft-pretzel finish, wtf?

One place in town has a decent store pie (the slices you can get at the counter), but their delivery sucks.
