Condolences to Signe. :(

On a happier note... I didn't post about this on the day, but last Friday I was invited to the Geography day at Lee Elementary School in Austin. They were doing "Ireland" as one of their projects. So I got to field questions from the kids on Ireland, told them a story from Irish Mythology (The Children of Lir) and then had a craft session where I talked them through making a St. Bridgid's cross out of straws. It was pretty cool actually, and the day went really well.

I'm surprised they let you get away with that sort of papist indoctrination in an American public school.   Ohhhhh, I see.

Signe, I would offer to help you with that giant shepherd's pie in the interests of preserving your sanity but I don't think it'd ship very well.  sad  Maybe you could take a picture and post it so we can ooh and aah appreciatively?

Hee hee. Sadly, the Children of Lir is about the story of the Celtic god Lir, and the Brigids cross is based on stuff from the Celtic, not Roman, form of Christianity (not to mention a lot of the legends of St. Brigid are based largely on the Celtic goddess Brigid) so I cant even do indoctrination right  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

Got up too early this morning so I could cadge a lift to Glasgow. Now sitting in a trendy coffee shop on Byres Road. I'm not convinced that Byres Road should have anything trendy or up-market on it. It seems incongruous. It seems to be a theme though. The Rubaiyat (an old man's bar that was popular among the medical types that worked in the Western Infirmary) is now a mirror bar called Otto's. Reid's of Partick is gone too. Some other trendy bar has half the space, and the other half is some government office for helping the unemployed find jobs or something. At least that fits my anachronistic view of this part of the world.

Hey, at least they're all privately owned trendy shops. The worst thing that can happen is chain restaurants and Wal-Marts.

That seems like a LOT of weight to not notice slipping off (it would be on my frame, anyways). Haven't your clothes seemed too loose?

The logical explanation is that Fraeg gave birth.  Same thing is going to happen to you soon, if I recall.  Some of your clothes will become suddenly loose as well, but your boobs will remain fantastically large for some time.

I have gained 30-35 pounds, and yes, I will be dropping about 20-25 of it instantly, come Thanksgiving. Yay. The remaining 10 lbs will hopefully not be fully comprised of boobs.  ACK!

Heh, you jest but damned if it doesn't happen that way.

I hope you've got plenty of nursing bras. Those things get dirty quick.  Also, I agree with ED, I think you'd rather have those 10 pounds in your breasts than on your ass.

No no no.  Personally, I'd much rather pack in the booty than strain the neck and shoulder muscles like that.  As much as I dislike surgery, if I was suddenly burdened with 10 more pounds of booby, I'd be looking for a good plastic surgeon for a significant reduction.  I think men should just get over their mommy memories.  It would be easier on everyone, especially women.

What my wife _really_ loved is after the birth of our first, she's gained a shoe size (it's caused by the relaxing of ligaments and is permament).

From watching the match warm-up from Twickenham it's more like 85kph winds and torrential rain.  You might want to hunker down.  At least you're in a lounge and not with hoi polloi.

Yeah, I was deliberately understating it - there are gusts of up to 75mph in Heathrow, 95mph on the coast. The plane before us just left (two hours late) so they're getting people into Heathrow, presumably on a single runway to avoid the crosswinds. I suppose that I can hope that that delays the departure of the Washington flight... or that there are still local hotel rooms available by the time we get there.

Do not stay at the Heathrow Sheraton unless you can get a room on the club floor.

BA gave me a room at the Holiday Inn at junction 4 of the M4. I had chicken satay and nasi goreng for dinner in their Asian restaurant. On the way home I picked up an 8 inch Newtonian reflector on an equatorial mount and some pickled onions.

You bought a telescope and a jar of onions then checked them both in on a BA flight?   Were you trying to get an insurance payout from the airline?
