If you like him, then you should tell him not to apply to such a fucking clownshoes organization and give the same bullet point list you gave us.

Printing out and mailing an online form.  Really?  Fucking a.

Not the first time I've heard of that. I've had clients want us to do that, and despite my hatred of PDF's, I've always tried to steer them to PDF's. Some clients are just fuckstupid though.

Signe, sorry about Righ's mom. I'll toss a prayer her way.

So, wow, it sure is nice to have a net connection from home again.

Thanks, FiOS!

Thanks, everyone.  Unfortunately, Righ's mum died while he was in transit.  I feel terrible that I'm not with him right now.  It's all I can think about. I'm sure he'll appreciate the nice words when he gets back.

As for respiratory infections and head colds - my sister made some elderberry syrup and lemon balm.  It actually seems to work!  Yes, she makes her own medicines and she makes me take them.   ACK!

Very amusing discussion on how to teach presentation and speaking skills to our undergraduates today. At one point the workshop coordinator talked about how, if students are going to be using PowerPoint, they should not read off their slides. This was one of a list of bullet points read directly off of a PowerPoint slide.  swamp poop

Sad.  I'm sick with an upper respiratory infection and a head cold and Righ's mum just became extremely ill and is in hospital.  He's on a plane to Glasgow and I feel awful that I can't be there.  I doubt they'd even let me on the plane with all my coughing and sniffing and dripping when everyone is so terrified of dying from flu.  I so afraid it won't end well, either.  I'll be up all night feeling terrible for him and his family.   They are the most awesome people in the world.  Heartbreak

Let me know if he wants me to get him pissed.

All the best to you Signe and Righ, very sorry for your loss

Myself and my wife (who lurks and occasionally posts here) waited three hours yesterday morning for her vaccine.  In lovely PNW Nov rain.  We were vaccine #218 amidst all the kids.  There were conservatively 400 people then in front of us (parents).  By the time we got inside the clinic, the line had double from the parking lot we started in.  Well over a 1000 people with small kids.  In horrible rain.  Amazing sad.

edit: I should add we got there at 7:30am for an 8am opening.  Some people had lined up it was claimed at 4am.  Madness.

Ugh, exact same thing happened to me yesterday. Got there at 2:45, waited until 4 to start vaccinating, got my vaccine at 6:40. I feel really bad for the mothers who had to stand with multiple little kids in line for 4 hours. Oh, and Oregon in November is not when you want to be outside waiting.

I talked to Righ and he'll be in Dunoon until Saturday or Sunday so, with luck, he'll be able to find an opportunity to call you guys and meet up.  He's brave.  I'm secretly afraid of all of you.  And I'm also not there.

Oh, it probably is.  We had chosen Earthen Ring when we first started.  A few people might still be playing on it - I've never run into anyone, though.  I only started playing again a couple months ago.  I haven't even maxed out a character yet.  Everyone probably had all their characters maxed out and were doing raids and stuff.  I had some characters on ER so I just went there.  I'm not even entirely sure where Righ plays or when - just that it isn't very often anymore.

The Fields of the Nephilim were pretty awesome yesterday.  I drove a 1000-mile round-trip to take my little cousin the goth to see them, but I'm glad I did.  Also, Carl McCoy must have one hella ugly picture of him stashed somewhere.

Oh and they still had the flour thing going on.

You know, I get it.  The outsourcing counselor, the networking ministry guest speakers, the online guides, and I'm sure the IDES "reemployment services workshop" I'm being forced to attend to maintain my unemployment all say the same thing.  I'm selling a product that consists of my skills and experience.  But damn does it feel like whoring myself out and practically begging others to help me find a job.  I hate this. I think it's possibly more work than actually having a job, with no benefits and no pay. :(

I only applied for unemployment once, my first year working for a dinner theater. The place shut down two months a year, and everyone applies for unemployment. I figured why not, even though I'd never used it even while unemployed (yay gypsy lifestyle). The hassle they put me through was awful, they simply couldn't understand that I /had a job/ and wasn't interested in finding another job, who the hell is going to hire someone who is going to quit in a month? Finally, I just took to telling them I had a job lined up, but it didn't start for a month...and they still badgered me to find another job.

But the worst part was the attitude of the Dept of Labor people, the condescension and rudeness.

Really, the lesson I learned is that if I get unemployed again, I'm going to join a band and smoke a lot of weed. I could make enough to pay my mortgage and not have to bother with the self-righteous a-holes at the DoL.

Won't even get into the time I was actually trying to find a job, they were worse than useless. I was looking for IT work and they were giving me factory floor jobs, acause I din't have no college lernin.

Even if you did have it, they would still give you those jobs.  I was hunting for a job outside of college (BS elec eng & comp. sci) and they were still giving me "go patch potholes on University Ave." type jobs.  They got angry when I told them I wasn't going to take a shovel shit outside job after spending 4 years in college and got quite self-righteous about how these jobs don't come around every day and I should be grateful for the $8/hr they were going to pay me.

In general their job is reliant on making sure that people receiving the dole get jobs, doesn't matter to them what those jobs are. As far as they're concerned if you turn down a job you're making their numbers look bad.

Goddamned amazon free shipping.

STILL waiting for Dragon Age, ffs. Still glad I bought it through amazon, because I got a $10 game credit, but sheesh. Shipped Nov 1st, est was Nov 9th. Which was yesterday. My mailman apologized to me. But he also said he might have an extra ticket to see Al Dimeola in January at the Egg (aka the best venue I've ever heard).

Hope to get it for a little catass session tomorrow morning.

I go nutty when Righ's gone and this is the longest he's ever been away.  Last night I watched two episodes of Supernanny in a row!  I've never seen that show and OMG!!! I hope I never see it again!  It was mind-numbingly scary awful.  The kids were bad but the parents were dumber than a bag of hair.  You'd think I would have stopped after the one terrifying episode.  I was rooting for the children to kill them.  Just now I washed and peeled five pounds of potatoes with absolutely no plan in mind.  I guess I better thaw some mince and make a huge shepherd's pie that no one will eat or something.  I don't thrive well left to my own devices.
