I had in intruder in the house I was in last year. Me and a friend got home and some guy was upstairs. He heard the door open and ran screaming down the stairs at (stairs ended right by the front door). I thought it was one of my housemates acting like an idiot and it didn't click that it was some guy breaking into the house until he was running for the back door. Chased him along a bit but figured I didn't really want to catch him (plus I'm not sure I could have, he was pretty fast). Fortunately all he managed to take was my Swiss army knife, he dropped my digital camera at the bottom of the stairs. Didn't take anything from anyone else's but one guys room had his laptop and other stuff all piled into a bag upstairs. The freaky thing was we found a big kitchen knife in one of the upstairs rooms so we figured he must have taken it and checked around upstairs before starting to actually grab stuff.
It was a bit freaky but since there were five guys in the house I never really felt too nervous but its not a nice experience. On the plus side that guy didn't come back so I'm sure you'll be fine Lant :)

It had been painted shut, and unfortunately the same with the latch.  (I had tried multiple times to fix it, so it was solidly sealed shut.)  He managed to jimmy it, though how without making any noise I don't know.  I'll have to look in the light, but with how smooth it was sliding I would bet it was lubricated, too. This indicates a bit of planning on someone's part.  Either he had tools with him or he had cased the place out recently and had already worked on the window at one time when no one was around and decided to come back later (like when it is dark).  Still, breaking into a house with the lights on and people home is a strange thing for the non-tweaker\junkie crowd to do.  Get all those windows nailed shut ASAP if you haven't already.  Being in a high volume\traffic area adds to the crime of opportunity crowd and taking all precautions you can against entry help. |

Glad you're okay. Right after we moved into this house we got broken into through the basement, so added an ADT system. Got broken into a few months later, ADT didn't do shit.
The big black bars on the windows and security screen doors seem to have worked though.

ADT stickers work better than ADT alarm systems.
I started to buy them on eBay about ten years ago and /knockonwood, have had no break-ins in any of the places I have lived.

For the most part, it is.  Caffeine was the single largest contributor to my anxiety attacks. |

For me, I drank coffee like it was mana until about noon every day.  The result was that I simply couldn't function without it and it took me forever to be awake enough in the morning to be worth half a shit.  Now I wake up fresh as a daisy.  Also, I don't have to piss all the time. |

Hey, let's compare coffee-peen!  I was doing 12-18 cups a day, what about you?  I'd also balance that with alcohol on days where I was getting too wired, or was thirsty.  I said it before and I'll say it again: thank god for Lexapro. |

Hmm.  I figure I was doing around 6-8 cups a day, but that was all before noon.  Then nothing for the rest of the day.  I kicked it by using those same Chantix pills that work on smoking addiction...in fact, I daresay they work better on coffee than they do on cigarettes.  I had no intention of dropping the coffee, but after a week on those pills I absolutely couldn't stand even a half a cup. |

12 cups? Well shit, I didn't drink much coffee then. Relatively speaking. I just drank one big cup. I usually don't drink coffee much, so it affects me pretty strongly when I do. I find that just eating fruit during the day is a better way to keep one's self awake. |

It mostly depends on the size of the cup of coffee we're talking about... and how much milk you use.
12 standard coffee mugs full of coffee, with a ton of milk, isn't all that much coffee.

I usually have 3 24oz thermos mugs full, like Cyrrex, all before noon. I also drink it black with no sugar.

If I don't have coffee I get some of the worst migraine headaches.

Yeah, I was using the word cup as a measurement, so about the same.  Always straight black for me, which had the added benefit of not being dependent on the Starbucks teet.

I only drink 1 or 2 cups a day, if that. I also have a horrible time getting up in the morning usually. Often because staying in bed seems so nice not infrequently because I just feel painfully tired. Usually a shower sorts me out but sometimes I need to be up and moving about for a good hour or two before I start to really wake up. |

I was also using "cup" as a standard, not as how many servings I take, so my 12-18 is an estimate.  I mostly use a steel travel mug first thing, then a larger-than-normal ceramic one at work.  Black, all the time.  Makes life much simpler.  Until the chest pain starts, anyway.
 I'm sleepy a lot.

I started cutting back on coffee.  I was drinking 8-10 cups a day, but by 6pm or so would get incredibly tired.  I am focusing on drinking more water, and it has worked wonders on my tired levels. I do miss the morning SUPWTFHYPER sessions, though.    |

12-18 CUPS a day? FUCK'S SAKE. I drink about half to 3/4 of a cup in the morning with breakfast. I used to drink another when I got to work and I just found myself getting all wired and jittery in the morning. My head would assplode if I drank more than that. Of course, I also gave up caffeinated sodas with high fructose corn syrup over a decade ago (with the occasional nip) so my caffeine tolerance is low. |

If we're talking an American cup of 8 oz, I think I drink approximately 4 a day, mostly in the morning. I usually grab a cup of decaf somewhere during the afternoon. I love coffee, but I don't see how you guys drinking 16 cups a day or whatever didn't have serious heartburn and a complete inability to concentrate.    |

I think I was doing good sticking to coffee, considering I get free Coke all day.
The funny part is that it never made me hyper, just not zombified.  And angry.  Let's not forget that bit.  My current regimen, now that I wake up at 0530, has me just taking 4-6 cups.  I mean the Imperial-measurement, two-cups-in-a-pint amount.  Since I went to bed at 2am (damn you, Too Human), I allowed myself six today.  I could totally take a nap right now.  Soft-touch keyboards are like crickets.

I didn't have an inability to concentrate because I have ADD.  Stimulants make me think better.  For a while I was drinking coffee and taking No-Doz... that turned out to be a bad idea, but boy was I thinking clearly.  I also don't get heartburn.  Burritos and coffee, yum.

Back when I carried a pager and would work crazy hours, I would drink somewhere between a pot to a pot and a half of coffee a day.  Black.
These days, I drink a cup or two (black still) in the morning and usually just water for the rest of the day.

A pot is 12 cups by my measuring, and the basis for my estimate of 12-16 per day.  Just saying. |

I am starting the second 24oz mug right now, which means that I'm at 3 "cups" by 8oz standard measurements... And my daily average is about 9 cups. That's exactly a single Mr Coffee brewing cycle, 1 cup microwaved from the day before as the wake-up mug, and then a fresh brewed pot of Joe some time in the next hour. Only side effect I ever suffer drinking so much coffee is hitting the bathroom a lot, and then the headaches if I don't have the usual dosage daily. If I sleep late and don't have caffeine early am, I wake up with a migraine, or if I only have 2 mugs by afternoon my head is splitting and I'm drained or tired feeling.
