Also, too much sugar in NA breads.
Only if you buy cheap bread.  There is a decent selection of better breads in most larger cities if you're willing to look for it. |

I buy the "light wheat" bread when I buy a loaf at the store (since I only use it for toast and the occasional sandwich I don't mind the blandness so much). Much less sugar than normal bread.
If I want good bread, there is a locally owned bakery that is amazing here. But I usually don't find the need.

I also usually cannot use up a loaf before it gets moldy so buying fancy bread would be an even bigger waste of money than I already am doing.

Due to biology, this doesn't apply at all to your own kids.  Yeah, there are people who never have the switch flip (psychopaths?), but it does for most people.
As a former vehement kid-hater, this was the strangest thing about having kids that I wasn't expecting. Just the bonding, etc that goes on.  I mean... damn.  I still don't like other people's kids, but I'm very much more tolerant of them than I used to be.  I really like babies now oddly enough, though my favorite part is handing them back to their parents when I'm done! |

I usually don't have bread at home at all for this reason (also because even good bread is mostly empty carbs), but a decent workaround is to freeze it.  I bake bread for my friends at work on a regular basis and one told me his trick to make it last is to cut it into day-sized hunks when it's fresh, put 'em in the freezer individually wrapped, and then thaw one a day. |

Sara Lee "Artisano" brand bread is not completely terrible, if you are confined to mass produced, generally available options (decent for the gripping surfaces of a sandwich, anyway). Great Harvest old-fashioned white is the shiznit. Especially toasted, with real butter.

Good (fresh) bread goes off less quickly than shitty bread, and it will go stale before it goes moldy if kept right. Steaming and then toasting stale bread can be nice too. |

Tortillas have too much flour for me, they leave me wanting to drink a lot. For traditional bread substitutes I prefer Pita. |

Yes, yes I know all these things about how to not let bread mold.
But I can't be bothered. One loaf of bread every two to three weeks usually keeps me covered.

We grew up with flour tortillas and switched to corn a few years ago. Such a drastic improvement in taste and caloric balance. |

Boy, disagree. I hate both the consistency and taste of corn tortillas compared to flour.
 Corn tortillas have their place

 being deep fried

and turned into salted tortilla chips

Some restaurants that make their own corn tortillas are incredible.  But 90% of store bought is shit. |

I find many of the fresh ones underwhelming. Outside of a very select few places, I will order flour every goddamn time. Especially if they're fresh. |

Good flour tortillas are made with lard and lots of salt while proper corn (masa) tortillas are made with no lard and very little to no salt. So on their own a good flour tortilla is going to taste significantly better than a good corn tortilla. That being said I've come to appreciate corn tortillas as the one true delivery vehicle for taco ingredients here in Northern Mexico (aka California). The blandness means they are not competing with the meat for attention and their "snap" texture makes for cleaner bites compared to the chewier flour tortillas.

I still enjoy a flour every now and again. What really woke me up was looking at the calories between a burrito and a burrito bowl at Chipotle. (I know, I know it's bullshit food. But quick lunch for work). I think the flour tortilla alone is around 600 calories in that thing. My brain wants it, my fat ass does not.
The trick for corn is to take just a bit of the raw edge on it by getting one side a bit toasty first. Like when we do juevos rancheros at home; such a drastic difference between a raw tortilla on beans and a nice crispy one that was softened a bit by the sauce.

North Mexico is the two fists of Tuscon and Phoenix. And I still order my tacos with flour there. |

I am the harbinger of your doom! |
Generally, I prefer a lightly fried corn tortilla (not a shell) for a taco. I like flour for burritos or larger, messier taco preparations or when you're feeding a lot of people and don't want to fry up a ton of smaller corn tortillas.
Tortillas are not a bread substitute. They are tortillas.

Planes? Shit, I'm terrified to get in my car now! |
Bread in the UK is really mixed. Almost anything that comes sealed in plastic is garbage that is so light it needs to be tied to the shelves to stop it floating away. Oddly most actual bakers also sell bread that I don't like. The best bread I've found is often sold by the supermarkets but from their fresh bakery sections. The one we shop at sells a really decent sourdough that we get through at a fair rate. There's a tiny supermarket called the Co-Op, that I am constantly amazed hasn't gone bust yet, that sells just fantastic bread and their pastries are the best I've eaten outside of France.
Talking of gluten, I have a friend who has actual coeliac disease, and the rise of self-diagnosed gluten intolerance has been the definition of a mixed blessing for him. On the one hand it's meant that the range of gluten-free foods available has increased hugely, but on the other hand it's also made it harder to get people to understand that he has a real, serious medical condition and that the food he eats has to be REALLY GLUTEN FREE, REALLY REALLY, not just labelled as such.

Schild had Russia blocked for years before China because they were a spam problem. Maybe it was unblocked for Teleku since he's stationed there? |
