Meh, just never been a huge boxing fan. I don't really watch UFC much either.
That said, Tyson has stated on multiple occasions that he would lose to Ali. Ali was faster and would have about 10 inches of reach on Tyson. Also psychologically he'd destroy Tyson.

Ali would have destroyed Tyson, just like he did when he was called George Foreman, and Sonny Liston. I loved watching Tyson fight, but Ali was almost another species all together.

Also people who have seen them both fight. And people with eyes.

Tyson also fought a lot of tomato cans (when he had to fight a legit guy he bit his ear off). Ali had much better competition.
The thing about Tyson is that he was a type of heavyweight that we hadn't really had before. Short and exploded upwards like no one ever. Ali was a far better overall boxer but Tyson could end a fight with anyone (including Ali) with one punch. I'd call it a 50/50 deal if both met in their prime but based on who they had to fight Ali was historically "better."

Ali didn't have Tyson's power, but he had a ton of reach on him, not to mention the fastest hands ever for a heavyweight. If he got cocky and let Tyson get close he could get knocked out, but if he danced Tyson would never touch him.

I tend the think Schild is right. And you can ignore whatever Tyson says himself, he is and has always been pretty reverent of boxing history, so it is no surprise that he says himself that Ali would beat him.
Aside from all the other stuff already mentioned, Tyson (in his prime before his first loss) scared the ever-loving shit out of his opponents. At least, after they got hit the first time. The fear was evident. I've never seen any boxer do that. Same would have happened to Ali. There was nobody that ever hit that hard with so much volume.

If you're a professional boxer, especially a black one, you always say "Yea, Ali could take me." You have to.
He would've turned Ali into literal sandwich meat.

George Foreman and Sonny Liston were just as feared in their day. Ali handled both of them. And I say this as a huge Tyson fan. And not a big fan of Ali. I just watched both of them fight and have read a lot about them both.

They may have been just as "feared" in a sense and were hard hitters in their own right, but I don't think it is the same as going in against a little boulder of a man and deciding that you are going to quit after the first time you get hit because otherwise you might get killed. Different kind of fear entirely.

I just watched the Foreman/Ali fight again. Foreman was pretty sloppy and impotent for most of that match.
Could Ali have done the same to Tyson? I'm not so sure - Tyson may have been a technically better boxer.

The problem with Ali / Tyson is that Ali could not have taken a single hit. I'm not even sure Ali hit hard enough to KO Tyson and it would've had to go to decision.

Tyson is Ken Norton shrunk down and on steroids which is why I think he would have a shot at Ali. Ali's 5 loses were to bruising punchers as punchers always have at least a shot against a boxer.

To be fair, Ali handled Norton the other 2 times they fought after he adjusted to his upwards jabs.

Tyson is Norton shrunk down, but waaaay faster. The Norton tapes look like slow motion in comparison.

Which would win? An unstoppable force or an immovable object? Because I think this is the question you are all debating. That being said, it would have been a great fight to watch.

In their primes, I'm not sure which would win. Ali was the consumate technical fighter, the kind of guy who could beat an opponent by outhinking (and then outboxing) him. Tyson, however, could just fucking destroy a guy with his physical abilities. Whoever won, it'd be a helluva fight.

This is very much Useless Conversation but I think you Americans have an anti-southerrn bias. I just watched Barton Fink and The Killer Inside Me back to back and the souther accent (female first film, male second) is the most sexy thing ever.

I can't hang out around Southerners or Texans. I end up sounding like like some sort of cartoon cowboy in minutes.
I imagine I have some sort of natural accent, but I have no perception of it until I'm around groups that closely resemble it.

I notice that when I'm around family members, my inner redneck comes out a lot more than in normal conversation.

This happened to me big time when I lived in Houston for a few years. Even now I still occasionally say y'all.

Y'all is incredibly easy to pick up and useful in all sorts of informal conversation situations.
Or maybe I just think that because mom grew up in the South and I heard it all my youth and still use it.

When I'm around my family, I get a sore neck... from all of the head shaking at their stupidity. I sometimes wonder if I was adopted.

Usually my accent is neutral. Unless I'm around a bunch of southerners or Texans with a strong one, then I will pick it up for a while.
Y'all is a word that will never leave my vocabulary though.

Should be the same with "howdy", although I use that a bit more according to the situation.

The husband makes fun of me if I've been visiting home or around relatives for any length of time, asking me if I was "barn in a barn" because Os sound like As after a while.
Anyways, I did a thing today. Finally got my act together, my courage up and opened an Etsy shop to try selling my artwork. Who knows, but you can't move forward without taking a first step.

Can't be bothered making a film thread for it, but I know we have parents here.
Avoid The Boxtrolls. It's fucking awful.
I'm late to this because I was gone all weekend, but what made it so awful? I thought the preview looked kind of fun.
