I'm completely fucking sick of 9/11. It destroyed fucking air travel forever and has allowed our government to become an awful robot driven by pure FUD. I *hope,* as a nation, we collectively forget. Fuck.

I feel the same way, but it's a really unpopular opinion to say out loud. I want to move on as a society.

Got the call,  workers comp surgery approved,  torn rotator cuff operation next tues.

Recovery time estimate...  6 months. :(

Goodbye yoga, biking, snowboarding,  the cooler aspects of my work, etc.  I realize though that this is one of those things where there will never be a "good time" for it to happen.  Bleah

Flew back from New Mexico (ABQ) today and it was surprisingly pleasant.

If anything we were more confused over lack of anal cavity searches.  Seemed all of us in line  were confused.

Shoes on?  Tablets can stay in bag?  We can smile?  Wut wut...

But, thinking back to a trip I took to Newark a few months ago... it does seem changes are filtering down.  I even recall a guard in Norfolk mentioning they were the new and nicer TSA at some point.

No Nerf, but I put a link to this very thread and I said that you all can guarantee for my purity. I even mentioned your case, and see if they can take a look at your lawn from a Michigan perspective.

God yes, I dread every time I have to pass through a US airport. I try to fly via France and London when I'm heading over to Canada now, because connecting in America is lolztastic, even as a citizen.

Well, the company hosting the meeting was not able to get the gotomeeting part working, so I had to dial in using a phone number like a caveman.  Then the collabserv.com link that they subbed (about 10-15 minutes into it) asked for a password and I got a "just listen to the audio".

This is followed by about an hour or so of discussion of things that have no real bearing on my responsibility.

Interesting, but nowhere else to post it:
Quote
In 2011, Dr. Pawan Sinha, a professor of vision and computational neuroscience at M.I.T., published his answer to an almost-four-hundred-year-old philosophical problem. The philosopher William Molyneux, whose wife was blind, had proposed a thought experiment in the seventeenth century about a person, blind from birth, who could tell apart a cube and a sphere by touch: If his vision were restored and he was presented with the same cube and sphere, would he be able to tell which was which by sight alone? The philosophical camps on Molyneux’s question divided roughly through the centuries into those who believe that certain qualities, such as the roundness of spheres, are innate and shared among the senses (the Yeses), and those who insist that, to understand roundness, the eyes must have already seen roundness (the Nos). The longevity of many other philosophical thought experiments—Schrödinger’s cats, twin Earths, what it’s like to be a bat—relies on their impermeability, but, after the discovery in the early eighteenth century that a simple cataract surgery could lift the curtain of blindness for some, Molyneux’s thought experiment became, simply, an experiment.

Since 2003, Sinha, through a non-profit that he founded called Project Prakash, has organized and supervised sight-restoration surgeries for more than two hundred blind children from some of the poorest regions in India. The surgeries were given to any child who medically qualified, a subset of whom had been blind since birth with cataracts. After sight had been restored, Sinha posed Molyneux’s question.

Despite being fucknuts crazy, watching Iron Mike fight was completely without parallel in any other sport. Though watching Kershaw pitch comes pretty close.

Not that I'm a boxing guy, but I always thought that while Tyson was more explosive, Ali was much more agile and had some incredible hand speed.

If WUA was still here, I'm sure he could say more.

Tyson hit about ten times harder than Ali and punched just as fast.

One of my friends described him as a perpetual motion machine. That's a pretty god description. At Ali and Tyson's peak, I'm pretty confident Tyson could put Ali through the floor of the mat in 15 seconds.

Oh, you seem to be right... From the training video found this:

Mike Tyson Vs. Sammy Scaff HD

The entire fight was over by minute 2. He looks so..dense compared to his opponent. And also quite menacing for a 19 year old "teenager".

Tyson could duck and weave as good as any of the best, Ali included. But his uppercut and left hook would come out of nowhere like a freight train and crush your fucking skull in.

For all of his craziness, the guy is probably the best at his sport than anyone else was at their sport. The closest physically conditioned *famous* person I can think of is Bruce Lee. But Lee never peaked. :(

Edit: You can *feel* his punches while watching him. Shit is intense. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1z9mbQk58B0 (The Mark Young fight is omg - and jesus, the Etienne one, I'd never seen that angle)
