I think I have found the epitome of first world problems on f13; when the gate on a gated community doesn't work.

I think most of us usually keep that sort of thing to ourselves, so it's going to be tough to judge a Best Of in this category.

In line with that theme, I started playing Witcher 2 and my wife and I both enjoy it.  Trouble is that I never finished the first one.  I found it on one of my hard drives but it doesn't work.  After searching my mailbox I find that I bought it from Impulse in 2008.  Tempted to give Gabe Newell another ten dollars instead of deal with GameStop.

Context.

After our community gate nearly crushed a car over the weekend, the neighbors got together and we bent the gate back in shape instead of paying a 'gate repair' place $2500 for a super minor welding job.

Also, I realized that the guy that replaced the faulty circuit board for the gate last year didn't set the pressure right.  Yes, for the last 8 months we've been using a compactor as a gate.  Good Christ.

Fixed that shit right away.

Its shocking we only had this one incident this year.  That shit is dangerous.
Does this mean you are all liable now if the gate injuries somebody / damages something? awesome, for real

Three gig of music disamapeared from my computer last week.  That's lots.  I called Apple and got a maroon on the phone.  He kept asking me for the serial number of my device.  I kept telling him that I'm not calling about a device and the music is on my computer.  He asked for the serial number of my computer and I told him it wasn't an Apple computer.  I think I interrupted his script or something and he couldn't find where my problem was on it.  Then he tried to sell me something for $19.  I told him I was unwilling to pay anything at all to recover music for which I had already paid.  Sheeshfuckmeblind.  He was so confused that he stopped talking.  I mean, at all!  So finally I asked to speak to someone who wasn't him and the next bloke fixed me right up.  I hate Apple.  Their first line of defense is "More money, please".  Srsly?

Apple at least will answer your call without you paying money up front (for no help) so it could be worse.

I had to go listen to it.  It is certainly way better than the song it is parodying.

I usually assume that when I have found a thing on the internet, so has everyone else.  However that is a terrible assumption, so here is the video link I have for "Tacky": http://www.nerdist.com/vepisode/weird-al-yankovic-gets-tacky-with-pharrells-happy/

The Civilized Bachelors of America frown upon your shenanigans.

I'll be having a wrap with grilled chicken thighs with tomato, lettuce, cuke, swiss and a dill mayo. With a Summer Ale, or possibly a Gewutztraminer if the neighbors are up for a couple glasses.

Staying at a friend's place this past weekend kind of shocked me as to how un-bachelor-like I seem to be....and he's been married for 20 years.

Common-law marriage is a thing.  Also domestication-by-osmosis.  And old age.

Only in some states. Most of the ones that banned gay marriage also banned common law on accident because of the way things were worded.  I don't think they've all corrected it in the interim.

Even better news if they gave you the meds that weren't working as well for him to use recreationally  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

Glad he is feeling better.

Wife's office sent everyone home yesterday at 10am when a transformer blew down the street- couldn't power the AC. We live up here in SE Alaska or South Canada and when it is 85-90 outside, we REQUIRE AC inside. Also it probably isn't so good for all the IT equipment.

Depends, I live in a condo complex and the garage has gates. Mostly to keep people from parking there that don't live there. Houses with gates are rich though.

Around here, communities with gates mostly don't mean anything other than paying a higher HOA fee.   There's one south of us and the house prices/size are nearly identical.   However, most newer neighborhoods where the houses start at around 450-500k will have gates along with disgustingly high HOA fees.

Installing a geothermal heating/cooling system when the house was built was some of the best money I've ever spent; the thermostat sits at 72 all summer for an entirely negligible energy cost.
