Cleaned out my computer! It turned back on! Whoooo! Now to decide if I want to replace my Q9450, Mobo and GPU or just replace the GPU.

Edit: Actually, the problem with my PC and modern games might simply be I don't have enough RAM to load all the textures and shit (I have 4GB).

Fake edit: I'm pasting this into the quick tech questions thread.

Today I learned that I have an unpaid parking ticket somewhere, somehow.  It's shitting up my credit history.  I feel like my credit history now has a virus.  Delicate things.

I've got 4gig on my years old Vista system and never had a problem - except with the massively bloated Sims 3.

Credit is a sacred trust, it's what our free society is founded on. Do you think they give a damn about their bills in Russia?

I just got a notice that some collector bought some debt I owe from 7 years ago that I have refused to pay (docs didn't bill insurance correctly, I never got notices, and then it was sent to collections - fuck that).

I sure hope they didn't pay much for it, because I still don't plan on paying out the ass just because someone fucked up in billing.

Yes, but this only matters if you need credit in the US, because you plan on doing something like renting a place or buying something on credit.  Strazos being the international man of mystery diplomat (I always pick the other in Civs!) he is has such things provided.

At least until he's made ambassador in the future and this scandal brings him to his knees.  Remember it well!

The only time my utter lack of credit boned me was when I was applying for a mortgage.  Never had problems with renting or even with smaller stuff like car loans.

Meanwhile, in the USA, vs the other country that is Californian anecdotes...

I've been denied rentals for bad credit when I was in college, and you can find plenty of others via Google.  Hertz, Enterprise and Budget check your credit and hotels are beginning to.  Jobs are also beginning to do this, including career positions.  Three employers ago we did this, and that was a national company not just some local thing.

Credit can and eventually will hold you up in this country unless you're white, have enough connections or make a chunk of change and can prove it.

Which is why I busted my ass to repair my credit after being left with credit card debt, a house default, and an ex.  Finally got it looking decent after almost 5 years, but it sure wasn't easy.  I don't go wild to actually get loans or anything either, just make sure the number is up there because that's how we play the game in the USA.

You can be a corpse and get a car loan.  Your interest rate on the loan may be 25%, but it can be done.

There isn't much they can do if you ignore them.  They are not allowed to re-report an old debt so it has zero effect on your credit.  IIRC bad things can happen if you actually pay them anything (it is like legally acknowledging that you owe them or something).  I was in a similar situation 15 years ago or so I told the junk debt buyer I would pay the debt in full if they could show the original debt as paid in full, they of course can't do that because they aren't the company that reported it.

https://www.draw.io/

That's one cool thing about this online web dev degree.  They pushed Visio on us from the start.  I've used it to communicate about projects quite often, and it even comes in handy to build flowcharts for my coworkers.

That looks cool, but I've had a license for Visio 2010 for a while so I might as well just practice in that.  Does draw.io open up dozens of windows that the guy who last edited the file had open? why so serious?

EDIT: I don't know what you are drawing, but I was given visiocafe.com as a useful template site.

I used visio to do my call flow designs when I did Voice UI Design, too.  I even still think in Visio.  Since I lost my license, I haven't been able to find a software package that I like as much (for those rare times I've had to do call flows since).

For web dev I like mockingbird, I have also used Balsamiq which was pretty cool.  The few times I have used Visio I have come away frustrated, but this may be because I was editing Visio documents that seem to have been created by people who did not have the faintest idea of what they were doing.

I used Visio to do wireframes in my last job. Now I have to use DrawIO and the embedded draw tool in Google Docs and I wish I had Visio again.

My credit rating is shit, and the only trouble I had renting was because I have 3 dogs. Shit credit means you'll pay more for any loans anyone chooses to give you, but it is only important to the assholes who want to lend you money as a measure for how much they get to legally fuck you on the deal.

As Merusk explained for me, even if it does, I don't care. Also, when I checked my scores in July they were still pretty high - Experian says 857/990, which is pretty good. I just wiped out my federal student loan balance using my NJ income tax refund, so that's helped as well.

Frankly, anyone who looks at my report and sees my fairly-low student loan balance, with no other real debt, with 3 fairly high-limit credit cards with zero balances and a decent amount of cash in my accounts...and still does want to approve a loan? They're clearly idiots who don't want money.

I guess I'll have to put this to the test sooner than I would like, as I need to buy some sort of vehicle sooner rather than later once I get back to the US - my temp lodgings for the next 8 months are a real pain without a car, apparently. I was trying to wait until I went to Mexico, but oh well. Ohhhhh, I see.

Stealth Edit: the reported collections debt is only like $700, so it's not like it's some massive bill hanging out there. I could easily pay it and make it go away forever, but I refuse to on principle alone. Hell, I plan on losing that much next time I go to a casino, or if I upgrade my final flights out of here in cash. Still have no interest is getting gouged because someone can't figure out how to bill my insurance.
