Most people are ignorant and short-sighted, sure, but they're also gentle and kind. I've dealt directly with the public my entire working life, and most of my interactions every day have always been charming and positive.  The trouble is that the stupid and selfish few are wildly successful at taking advantage, and we are largely powerless to fight them: You either sink to their level or they don't care what you say. Often both. Nobody wins.

Building fundamental trust, hope, and justice is slow work for meagre reward... but it keeps the human world turning. If anything less than the greatest mass of humanity weren't involved in it practically every moment we breathe, we'd all be hitting each other with rocks and shitting in holes. Sure, it's sad to see the assholes prosper by dismantling what we've built. Sure it's sadder to watch idiots hurt everyone the come in contact with, even themselves. That sorrow is the small the price we pay for having such a generally warm, open, trusting society.

So weep a while, dream a while, and get back to work.

I'm in a pretty cool position for dealing with the stupid and selfish. I help people all day long. As you say, most people are pretty cool and I'm lucky enough to really make their day more often than not.

If someone starts copping an attitude, I can just put on the brakes, sum up their situation and give them a quick set of options and then bid them good day. It's sometimes tough to keep from laughing at the moment the attitude starts up and I conjure this image in my head:

And be an agent of karma on some ignorant loudmouth.

He's from some reality show called Hardcore Pawn or something like that.  Huge pawnshop in Detroit which means you get serious stupidity going on.  The husband watches the show sometimes and I've viewed it in a  ACK! sort of way.  Guy comes off as a major asshole and his two kids are morons, IMO.

Dear Microsoft SCCM Console designers...you made me waste half of my day in training today not thinking I could create collections due to a permission error when it was just that your console does not create things in the place it logically should based on how EVERY OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE CONSOLE IN YOUR ENTIRE PRODUCT LINE WORKS.

These centralized management systems are still in their infancies, no matter what anyone tells you.  Even if there is a longstanding background (IBM), somehow the cloud paradigm is screwing up the current implementations; putting things in weird places is probably a direct result of that.  At least MS and IBM are like that, I haven't actually had the chance to use the one HP/EDS uses and has used for years.

I don't think anyone who has worked on these things would disagree with you.

Amazon is the only one that's actually got anything remotely decent and everyone else is just hacking apart systems that aren't Cloudcentric to 'fit' ;  and they never do.  Microsoft Azures first attempt was pitiful and the less said about Office365 the better.  (Hint, if you don't know Powershell, don't bother).

I was wanting to build one to keep the stupid out.  I guess if it has internet access, that's impossible.

I was completely lost until I saw the scientific notation.  Not sure why I was actually expecting an educational game.

Yeah I got suckered expecting actual educational devices. Then again, I'm a parent and these things stop being as funny when that happens.

The initial game is nothing like the real game. You have to think outside the box on this one.

I'm sitting here at work, listening to two people laughing hysterically at Chuck Norris meme photos.  I'm certain it's their first time seeing anything funny related Chuck Norris.  It's the saddest thing I've witnessed this week.

The cheezburger cat is not the one you need to introduce them to. It is definitely ceiling cat.

Also, I survived the SCCM training. My brain hurts.

I am going through much the same thing. Multiple layoffs and a dismal future has left me with tons of extra work and no job security past about mid 2013. I am starting to wonder if the guys who got laid off were the lucky ones.

Have they blocked the employment websites yet at work?  awesome, for real

So random story I ran into a guy that I supervised at my last job recently.  He had gotten laid off with a bunch of people around 3 years ago and he still hasn't found work.  Although he never really looked hard its hard for me to think of being out of work that long.

Oh, well no wonder my POs have been stuck in approvals in Purchasing for almost 2 weeks - woman handling that particular category of PO is over a month behind on them.  She's still working on ones from September.   swamp poop

Being out of work for a year was hell, no clue how someone could do that for 3 years.

Longest I've ever been unemployed was 3 months, last January through March.  I was already investigating how I could start a business and work for myself I was so bored.
