On a not unrleated note, certain people here are looking for an arrow in the knee.

I think Sam is right about surrounding yourself with idiots.

I was hoping that was what it would be when I saw your link.

Her entire blog is really worth the read, plus it started one of my favorite memes.

Kinda uneasy that that was the last blog entry and facebook post she's made. A bit over a year ago. I sorta want to know how the horror movies and skittles were, you know?

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

I prefer coffein and sleep deprivation to fight my very very very light  depressive phases. Kind of wish I (I kid, I kid) was manic depressive, I got shit to do and simply can't be bothered.

It probably doesn't work for everyone, but the advice I always got from my shrink (which turned out to be dead on) was to treat depression with exercise -- in my case that's usually going to the gym and doing at least half an hour of cardio.  Of course it requires being able to recognize when I've slid into a mood and then muster the willpower to do the thing I need to do to get out of it, but after a while it becomes an almost automatic response.  Some combination of the endorphins and the feeling that I'm at least doing something productive instead of moping around the house usually serves to get me out of whatever funk I'm in.

Amusingly I had to run through like 6 different pill regimes over the course of 3-4 years to finally get it all sorted out.  Once I got the chemical imbalance working and then exercise added, I'm a completely different person now.  It's great having a life again (or really, for the first time).

This advice you got has made all the difference to me - like you said though, the hardest thing is getting the willpower to go do something when the sadness sets in. I play different sports year round and if I miss a couple weeks for whatever reason I really feel it. When I am regularily doing something active, my 'down' moments are shorter and less often.

For me the sadness turns into panic as I just shut down - work, family, and friends no longer matter and I just want to sit in my basement in the dark doing nothing which causes me to panic even more because I'm worried about losing my job, family and friends.

Dragging myself up and out to do something active almost always begins the turn around. I'm still not at the point where it's become an automatic response - it takes a LOT of effort to do it somedays, but it's better.

Have you tried the internet? It's made out of millions of people missing the point of everything and then getting angry about it

Prozac was a godsend for me.  I'm glad a friend convinced me to talk with my doctor about it.

I was so anxious about the job situation, and everything which would be affected by losing it, that it was feeding my depression.  Now I laugh at the absurdity all around me with only a hint of worry.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

You shouldn't feel guilty or anything. Depression is just a medical thing, like migraines. You can sit about being affected without drugs and let it pass, or you can take meds and it sometimes can help you get out of the mire faster. Nothing to be guilty about, since its not a moral or ethical issue.

Does not have to be high class.

Yeah, this.  Treating it as anything other than a medical issue just fucks your head up worse.  It's a sickness that occasionally kills people, just like flatulence.
