It's 80 here today. Pollen is threatening to take over. Streets are covered in yellow. People are choking when they head outdoors.

My hostas went from barely peeking out of the mulch this past Saturday to being 2" out yesterday.  It's crazy.  And our yard could almost be mowed but a lot of that is from last year, since we didn't get a final clean-up mowing down in November.

Fake edit - no pollen around here, yet.

Having almost just moved away from Chicago, I am extremely jealous.  God but I loved the Chicago summer, especially when it appears in March.

I mowed yesterday for the first time of the year because the weeds were threatening to choke-out the grass which is still dormant.  The dandelions have also already gone through the first bloom-seed cycle of the year.  This summer's going to suck as I expect no rain on top of oppressive heat.  Dead lawn ahoy!  (I still expect the Ohio basin to become the 1st Midwest desert after the last few years of diminishing rainfall and little snow.)

After the landscape crew finished the spring clean up of the yard yesterday, I can't believe how green it is already.  Definitely not dormant, but considering it's Chicagoland, everyone is pretty much expecting a big "FUCK YOU" blizzard or something to show up from Mother Nature sooner or later.

Some folks have already mentioned how we should have record low levels of (not) flooding this spring because of the lack of snow in the area and north of us.  And if spring is abnormally dry, that'll mean summer could be as well.  I'm not going to complain too much though, since last year the area didn't warm up until mid-June.  I really want to find that mystical paradise where the temps are about 82 degrees and humidity is in the 50s and winter doesn't exist.

My paradise would be a sub-zero winter for 8 months a year, with a 2 month spring and 2 month fall. Time enough to process wood and get in some hiking and swimming.

God I hate this. Was in the upper 80s here the last two days.

People who are talking about how they LOVE this warm winter are going to be crying their eyes out in 3 months when we are in full on drought mode because there was zero snowpack and the great lakes never froze over to keep evaporation down.

As a midwesterner, I usually roll my eyes when you people get all excited that this week's weather is different from last week's weather, but in this case mother nature deciding "winter is officially over, TIME FOR EIGHTIES!" across half the country strikes even me as pretty stupid.

Crying their eyes out in their air-conditioned homes or offices, because they really hate the heat, too.

Oh, is that what pollen looks like?  I've seen it piled up in a few places where there are trees to drop it, but obviously not in the sheer quantity that's happening down in Georgia.  Never really thought about it since it doesn't affect me.

Looks like my car's windshield when I head for work in the mornings...  Happens for a month or so in the spring and again in the fall each year.   swamp poop

I can taste it when I breathe.  The interesting thing is that the coverage isn't abnormal to see since it's not quite time for the pines to jizz on us, but I feel a bit powdery when outside.  Plus the taste, let's not forget that.  I would rather be in snow or heat, and Arizona never seemed so appealing.

Damn truck wont start, fired up just fine 2x in the 20 mimutes before it died.  Had the battery tested and it is fine but all electrical systems seem to be dead.  The only sign of anything remotely related to working electrical is the battery charge meter moves about 1/8 an inch when i turn the key to the on position and i can hear the relay for the hazard lights (no lights though).

Why can't this shit happen in my driveway instead of a parking lot, now i need to have it towed instead of just trying to fix it myself first.

This happened to me when I was 500 miles from home.  Turns out it was the battery despite starting many times prior.  Although it was a bit sluggish once or twice before.  I didn't test the battery, though, since I saw a "07" on it and it was 2010.

That is true as long as you stay in one spot.  Drive up the road a few miles and it's either 59 degrees with fog or 99 degrees with ZOMG.

I have had it be the battery as Yeg said.

It had tested as having a good charge but not enough amps to crank the engine or turn on accessories.

I was actually able to get the truck started a couple times right before I switched the battery by punching the side of it. Apparently that jostled the water around inside and excited the fucker enough to start the truck.

Took it in to get tested, 709 cca out of the 750 it was rated.  I was hoping it was as easy as that but pretty much knew it wasn't even before the test.  Battery issue wouldn't have it start fine then 5 blocks and 10 minutes later not even have enough juice for the map light.

I am telling you dude, I paid a mechanic like 200 bucks to tell me the same shit about my battery. I replaced the damn thing for 50 bucks two days later and had no troubles ever again.

I had all kinds of "this seems totally dead" moments with mine too. It would start fine in the morning when it was cool outside, but by the time the truck had sat out all day in the sun after work it would not start.

How old is your battery? If the thing is more than 3-4 years old replace the damn thing before going all super-exotic cause.

It's about 2 years old, which after the nearly 100 days of 100 + temps we had last summer probably equates to more like 5 years.
