Nothing on this one.  I am going to do a workup on these girls (twins) for free.  They've already had braces but let's just say that the other doctor wasn't too good at removing the braces and determining what was glue and what was tooth.  I've rarely run into things that turn my stomach, but what I saw made me feel sick.
You missed the joke, but good on you.

No, I got it.  I just chose to ignore it because I was so pissed off about the situation.  Now I don't know what to do.  The parents are pissed, and I guess it's up to me to go talk to this other jackass that screwed things up.  I suppose I could let them go talk to an attorney.

Fun update re: Work lady. On Friday she decided to go on to my computer and read through my Skype conversations while I was out of the office carrying a set of drawers up to a guy in an other office. In that conversation with someone else in the office I'd made a joke about her sitting in the corner reading to herself out loud about 20 minutes beforehand and had given out about her last Friday when she forgot to get anything for two people's birthdays in the office and then explained she had gotten a cake because one of them was bringing in her own cake and she'd decided two would have been too many (despite not knowing said individual was getting a cake).

She spent the entire day in the corner with a massive face on her, made a fair number of comments to the individual I'd had the conversation with, to the point he asked me to come up, said that he thought she had something to say to the two of us and she said she needed to make a phone call and left the room. Finally she grabbed him for a quick 'chat', where she explained someone had told her he'd been saying very hurtful things about her and she demanded he apologise, he refused unless he knew what he was accused of saying and who by. When she refused he said he didn't believe that anyone had told her anything and he wouldn't apologise when he didn't know what he was meant to have done, at which point she got all teary eyed and told him he just didn't care about anyone's feelings. He then suggested as the whole management team is going to be around next week that they have a full and frank discussion with everyone, at which point she said she didn't want to and stormed out.

Next week should be interesting Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

tl;dr crazy lady spies on Skypoe conversation, gets upset but refuses to admit that she was nosing around someone else's computer. Hilarity will no doubt ensue.

Why are you delivering underwear?

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Did you ever grow out a beard, and then when shaving it off, decide to have some fun? I had been watching something with Vinnie Abbott and decided to do something dumb. I gave myself a pencil mustache, a triangle soul patch, lambchops. For the chin I left it long like a goatee but shaved the whole front of the chin (Vinnie's influence, that). Had a laugh, figured the old lady would come over and demand I shave it, and I would.

Go out to work in the yard, neighbor lady comes over wanting me to set up her wireless. I do so...and realize after I get going that I'm all douchey face hair. I explain and she said she hadn't even noticed. Which kinda made me wonder what the neighbors think. Her 16yo daugher said it looked kinda cool. I think they were just happy I didn't carry my axe.

Then the fiancee gets home and looks at it, says "give me some time." Hmm. Do I run with it? Of course. We're driving somewhere and she says "it's kind of cool, like Les Claypool."

...

So finally a while later I tell her I was just going to shave it off and she said she thought I was going to wear it until we saw Primus.

So now that's my plan. Might not make it because it's a bitch to maintain...but it's so hilarious I'm tempted to try. It was an odd day.

God I really wish I had time to retire this old Win2003 server which used to act as Exchange/DC/Webserver/Fileserver/VPN concentrator at the place a friend and I do IT work for as a side job.

Ran updates on it tonight remotely and had to bite my nails for the 35 minutes it takes for the damn thing to reboot because of all the shit we don't use anymore (Exchange 2003 I am looking at you) that is still running as a service. All it does right now is DC/File/VPN, which are critical to the work they do as they actually use the fileserver and the owner works from home 98% of the time, but setting up a new domain controller/file server/etc is something that neither of us have enough time to do lately.

You should be able to just set all the Exchange services to disabled pretty safely, that ought to speed the rebooting up considerably.

Yep.  Along with a reg key hack to tell Windows to not wait so long for Exchange to stop at shutdown (WaitToKillServices?), that should fix a lot of the issue.

Though with a 20-30 minute delay at reboot, you might want to check that's server's DNS settings as well...

Oh, everything is messed up. And we tried turning exchange off once like a year ago and they started screaming that their stupid custom built booking software (which is total shit) would not work because the guy who wrote it used some stupid script to push out an email from there.

The booking software being total shit is the understatement of the century.

It runs on a Linux box which we:

A: do not own
B: do not have any login information for
C: sits next to our network rack Meaning we are considered "responsible" for it working
D: is in your run of the mill antec case from the late 1990s (and am pretty sure IS from then) that has a piece of cardboard covering the drive bay openings
E: the guy who dies own it moved to California and doesn't give a shit about it

I have tried on multiple occasions to get system requirements from the guy who wrote the steaming pile of java crap so I can set up a new VM for him on hardware we do own and his only response ever was one line "just give me what the existing one has". When I ask for clarification he never responded. They paid this douchebag who is some kind of friend of the owner $25k to write this not even half finished custom program which I am sure my novice skills in Access could probably recreate the functionality of in a weekend but they wont go to a new system because of how much they paid five+ years ago do this dingus.

But, the few hours I work there get me free lunch every day among a few other minor perks and a decent hourly rate.

I'm guessing that it merely uses the SMTP part of Exchange and actually you could probably get rid of the rest without too much bother.

This. Or just disable everything Exchange related and install regular Windows SMTP on the box which is what I would probably do.

It wasn't as much as it sent an email out, it was set up to send to an exchange mailbox on that server. Like I said it was all screwy. The office guy told me today that they don't use that page anymore so I might try and kill exchange dead (or just leave it as that will be less of a hassle)

As to the sunk cost thing. The owner is a journalist who took over the family business when her parents died. She does very little that could be considered "good business practices".

From Chimpy's description I'll wager he and his buddy would be blamed for the old machine dying and told to "just fix it" at their own expense.

Yah, we're already getting a lot of mosquitoes here.  Luckily we've had a bit of a quick cold snap (with snow in some parts of town), so perhaps the bug explosion won't be as bad as I'm expecting.

Then of course, we'll probably have a lot of venomous snakes, scorpions, and bee swarms in the near future.  Yay.   Last year was so nice in this respect due to the multiple hard freezes we had.  My lemon tree was not as pleased.

Chicagoland has set a record for multiple record high temperature days in a row.  We haven't just broken the previous high temp records, they've been shattered (by over 5 degrees) on a few of those days.  Yeah.  High is supposed to be 84 today, which is hitting "this weather is a bit insane in March" levels.
