Yes, please tell me more about stuff that happens where I live.  Three years ago, Utah got rid of a minor thing where they needed a small glass divider at the end of the bar  that drinks had to go around (i.e. no direct service over the bar).  The Leg then passed what I am talking about last year which is far more draconian.  SLC can't do anything about it because it is a state law.

EDIT: grammar

Okay. I was just in SLC this past August, and went out drinking. I failed to notice any curtains or bartenders hiding while mixing, they all poured and mixed right in front of me. Guess the bars I went to werent following the law.

...

In other news Im back from the vacation. It was AMAZING!!!! I havent been to Disney in 20+ years and I was flat out amazed.

High points:
-Universal Studies Harry Potter ride was amazing!
-In Epcot the ride called Soarin' and the Mission Space were both incredibly great. The Mission Space, with rocket launch from the launch pad was simply unbelievable.
-The friendliness and demeanor of every single Disney employee we talked to. Their were always smiling, friendly, and went out of their way to make the vacation memorable.
-The "new" parks (new to me) of Animal Kingdom and Disney Studios were both very well done.
-My niece got me started on this Disney pin collecting thing. The person who came up with that idea is a marketing genius. You trade with employees. And theire are employee only pins you cant buy, identified with "hidden" Mickey's on them. And then there are even HIDDEN places to trade pins at, such as hidden books and even hidden trading strollers covered in pins. I was able to complete four sets during our vacation. It was an awesome activity my niece and I could participate in together. There are entire websites dedicated to this pin trading thing.

Low Points:
-While Universal studios had some amazing rides, the attitudes of their employees tended toward typical "theme park" employee attitudes. Which really stood out in comparison to the Disney employees.
-Some of my favorite old rides haven't stood up to the test of time. Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean were both really dated, after riding other Disney rides such as the new Star Wars 3D ride.
-Some of the rides were just ridiculously short. Not a problem because for us being there in November the lines werent that long, but if they had had long wait lines it would have been pretty bad. One example was the Kali River ride in the Animal Kingdom that I think was no more than 4 minutes in length.

I cant wait to go back and take our children.  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

As an aside story, I had a 9 year old kid come in today with "severe ADD", according to his mother.  He's on ritalin and really can't sit still for 2 seconds.  The kid was literally bouncing off the walls.  And then when I look out in the waiting room the little dude is making a cup of coffee while his mother waits on him.  No wonder he's got "ADD".  People are amazing sometimes.
If he's bouncing around while on ritalin, then the ritalin is part of the problem.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

It doesn't apply to bars, just restaurants (they are different types of licenses here). And existing ones are grandfathered in.   The whole thing is terminally stupid.

Part of this is that there is a supercrazy glut of dentists, too.

I still think that being a hygienist is a shit job compared to being a dentist, as too many dentists use hygienists as a way to screen against crazies....   Plus, hygienists have to work for dentists!  From my experiences working with a lot of medical/dental practices, dentists rank second on the crazy scale for medical professionals behind radiologists.

I know radiology is the big money, but damn!  I've seen like 2 or 3 radiologist suicides and a couple more have nervous breakdowns.  At least in public accounting, we used to quietly drink or eat ourselves into a heart attack.

Locally, hygienist might have one of the higher time of schooling to pay ratios I've seen.  A good hygienist can basically name their price, which is pretty good for only requiring a 2 year degree.  This really pisses off nurses, which is also funny.

The boy got all excited about learning to program so he can make a game (keke), so I broke out the Logo.  He did well enough, considering the late hour, that I rewarded him with a viewing of Farting Preacher on youtube.  Best dad ever, right?

Today, you win, Yeg.

I couldn't be happier with my dentist. I couldn't get in initially, so once I got insurance  Ohhhhh, I see. I had to go to another dentist. He had this awful antique parlor, was only open twice a week and his hygienist was from soviet russia (I think). Then my actual dentist started taking patients and both he and his hygienist are amazing, I love going to the dentist. He sets aside a little extra time if he has to do an exam, because we'll end up talking about splitting wood. He just moved into a new building the year I started seeing him, all new gear; his dad was passing the torch in style.

The hygienist there does just about all the day to day stuff. The dentist just does periodic exams, fillings, surgeries, etc.

Dentists generally care about one thing, and that is the bottom line.  If it means putting their dick in a grinder to make a buck, they will do it.  Convenience means nothing.

Exactly.  Along with the coffee.

Edit:  I have to admit that I'm so proud of all you folks here.  Just think about how many times dental hygiene came up in the past, and now that you have a ghost you are all really concerned about dental health.  It's awesome.   awesome, for real

Let's all go floss!

For all of the medical professions I worked with, dentists by far were the best businessmen.  Working with doctors is  swamp poop levels of business stupidity...  I can think of an even dozen doctors who were massively ripped off by their own employees, either through embezzlement (because they never even tried to keep track of the finances), stealing script pads (because they didn't want the hassle of safeguarding them), or stealing pharmaceuticals (didn't want to have to hassle with control of the drugs cabinet).

GPs were famous for delegating shit they should be supervising themselves to low-pay employees they had a poor relationship with or treated poorly, and then getting ripped off.  You don't do that to a dentist.  You'd wake up to masked man asking you if it's safe.

Thankfully with my practice management software there are a lot of checks and balances so that it would be very difficult (I would say impossible, but anything is possible) to steal.  I do mostly direct deposit with my AR and open all the mail myself.  Nobody can do a positive account adjustment but me and I can review all negative adjustments every day very easily.

But I guess the point is that many dentists care very little about what they do and just want to make a buck.  I think that mentality is less prevalent with physicians, but it's still there.

The sparrowhawk was picked up at lunchtime and released from the roof of a local parking garage.

I came around for a better photo of her coming out of the transit case and she launched herself at my head. I missed an awesome shot but got to keep my eyes so I'm calling it a wash.

Awesome to hear the Sparrowhawk is fine and back in the air, but you've let us down by now snapping a pic as she was launching herself at your head.  Think of the action!  Think of the story!  "And I snapped this one as she was trying to take my head off!"

I've never had a problem with any dentist I've gone to, although the one I saw growing up did his own cleanings, but he was an early adopter type as well.  Bit on the preventative stuff like wearing a mask/gloves and always saying to floss.  Current dentist is a nice guy but I'm sure the work he's done on the husband over the years has paid for at least a year of college for one of the daughters.  I'm a loss since he pretty much never finds anything wrong with me.

My family dentist is awesome. He made it on some kind of top 100 dentists of the US list. Plus, his last name is Butts, which provided me endless amounts of amusement as a kid.

In that vein, I used to work with a Michael Hundt (and yes, he did go by "Mike", it was hilarious hearing the voicemail robot voice pronounce it), and a few insurance companies ago there was a gynecologist in my PPO guide named Dr. Bonnie Beaver.

A policemen in my home town was named Richard Head, but that's not what his name tag said, no sirree.  He proudly bore a shiny silver nameplate on his breast reading DICK HEAD.   To make matters even more bizarre, he was the guy in charge of hanging out around the high school at the end of the day to prevent mischief, and every single one of us high schoolers thought this was the most hilarious thing ever.

I still don't know why he didn't go by Richard.

They are also building an entire new area in the Magic Kingdom that will be expanding on the Fantasy Land section to be open in 2012.
The older Disney stories just dont resonate with kids I guess anymore, so they've deleted the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea stuff and are adding new rides/areas for The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast.

Oh and on other observation. I have never in my life seen so many fat people in electric scooter carts as I have this past week in Disney. They werent even old, nor were they injured/handicapped. They were literally all renting electric carts because they were just to damn lazy to actually walk around the park.  DRILLING AND MANLINESS

Which are all newer than Sleeping Beauty or 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954).

I was hoping you'd talk some more about your colostomy.

Nothing new to report. They found out I had a secondary complication of colitis but couldnt identify an underlying cause. Normally its Crohns, bacterial or ischemia (lack of adequate blood supply).
They put me on a maintenance medication called Asacol, which is supposedly an anti-inflammatory for the colon. So far so good. I can eat normal food again and no more 2am percocet pain parties.
They are hoping to slowly bring me off the Asacol in 4 months.

Actually 20000 Leagues Under the Sea is getting a reboot.  Directed by one of the big guns, David Fincher.

You still may not see updated rides at Disney, because it doesn't sound like a kids movie, but it should be good.

Fuck norovirus.  Fuck sleeping in 20 minute shifts.  Fuck cleaning up and running the washer.

Both kids down this week with it - one Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, the other last night/this morning (right when I thought we'd all escaped).

Thank goodness for chlorine bleach and Depends, though.  And hot running water, washing machines, and forced air heating.  I can only imagine the hell this caused 100 years ago.
