You know what's another awesome noise?  When people shut off just the cable and not the TV.  Drives me batty.

Oh... that reminds me, whenever I am in the presence of a loud, constand noise (metal concerts are a prime example  awesome, for real ), depending on what angle I hold my head towards the main source of the noise, I get a "waterfall feeling" (best way to describe this, could not think of anything else) in my ears that only stops if I move either my head or relocate to a different position. Anyone got an idea what that is ?

See, that I still hear and it drives me nuts, too.  If the wife stays-up watching TV when I go to sleep she'll frequently do just this and it wakes me up later.  Fucking awful.   She's always said she can't hear the TV when it's on so she thought it was off and it just baffles me as it's such a distinct sound to me.

Can you hear the frequencies used on jewelery store alarms, too? I could but never like my sister and brother. They'd actually wince as kids because it hurt their ears when we walked past.

I am so glad CRT monitors/TVs are virtually extinct.  The high-pitched hum from them used to bug me to no end, and hardly anyone else could hear it.
You're going to hate the compact fluorescent light bulbs replacing incandescent then.

I remember hearing CRT's. I've never heard any of the CFL lamps in my home. Tonight, of course, I'll come home and hear all the CFL's all the time...

Buy LEDs instead.  Yes, they're more expensive but they're significantly more efficient last a hell of a lot longer and have better color rendition, including the ability to be dimmed and get closer to 'warm white' like the incands you're used to.

LEDs aren't there yet, but close! Wait a year or so and they will be 1/2 the price and come in more flavors.

I hate the color of incandescent lights, it's all 6500k 'full spectrum daylight' bulbs in this house. So the windows look blue from outside and creep out the neighbors.

That's the odd thing about my hearing difficulty.  I still have most of my range, including hearing the buzz from monitors and fluorescent lighting, but I have a ton of difficulty picking out conversation from even low ambient background noise.

That's just a mental thing :p Although I have a similar thing. Oddly, even though I have quite pronounced permanent ringing in both ears (especially the left), I only have hearing loss in the left ear, and it's not horrible. Like if I'm lying on my right side I might not hear a deer in the woods when the bedroom window is open. My right ear has good hearing and I've got great detail hearing (I can pick out what a noise is pretty well).

But yeah, CFLs drive me crazy. Even if I sit in the right place to catch a certain peak of sound wave, like the vibration of the DVR, it can drive me nuts and nobody else hears it. Also why I like living in a quiet neighborhood, when I lived in the ghetto, even with the tv on fairly loud I could hear people across the street...with the window closed.

Indeed.  That's really the only thing I have trouble with myself.

I was all excited thinking that I didn't hear monitors anymore... then I turned on an older one recently I had and realized I still do, just not much CRT\tube stuff around.  Luckily only my bedroom TV does it on the DVD player setting.  My vintage 1999 set in the living room makes no noise - one of the reasons I have no desire to replace it.

You know, if you're not actively helping in some fashion or making life easier, if you're merely chasing for constant updates and putting on pressure, you're not a Manager.

You're an utter cunt and you ought to fuck off and find a job that you can do.  Like flower arranging.  Or playing with your genitals in a turkish prison.

Amen to that.  You've just put into words exactly what has been pissing me off over the last many months.  I am dealing with one of these at the moment too - an otherwise very nice person and good worker, who is a terrible manager.  Good workers do not necessarily make good managers!

Wow, I have this too Lantyssa. Its nice to find someone that seems to have the same issue. I can't stand parties or bars for exactly this reason. I have a great deal of difficulty isolating the people's voices around me from the noise in the background. Drives me NUTS. I never understood why people like parties till I figured out that my noise cancelling ear bones are broke.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

I have both those problems! I thought the conversation thing was from being in an apc with a tow2 missile misfire, had tinnitus for a few years after that and the trouble picking conversations over background noise started then. not other hearing issues, so maybe I just don't care what people are saying after all.

I have relatively good hearing, but as the day goes on, I have more difficulty dealing with chaotic background noise, and it gets worse as I get tired. I can still hear but I get pissed off when there are 3 or 4 sources of noise around dinnertime.

I don't think it has to do with my hearing; I think it has to do with my brain processing what I'm hearing.

It doesn't bother me in the morning, just the evening. Alcohol makes it not bother me (and so many other things too).

Oh me too.  I get SO annoyed when there is any noise going on in the background in the evening.  Mornings I'm much more tolerant but the longer the day goes, the crankier I get about it.  No idea where it comes from, I always just assumed I was a cranky bitch (which is what my ex also told me).

Apparently I'm just falling apart. Sitting at my desk -- random nosebleed. I'm sure it's related to the massive sinus infection I just got over plus the ping-ponging fronts moving through, but....what the hell, body?
