Well, it seems that the economic carnage is still not over, and the NY Times is carrying a bit of news about the recent lay offs at Radio Shack. Just when you think it can't get any more grotesque... someone raises the bar: Employees at the headquarters here received an e-mail message on Tuesday morning telling them they were being dismissed immediately.
“The work force reduction notification is currently in progress,” the notice stated. “Unfortunately your position is one that has been eliminated.” “If I put myself in their shoes, ” Mr. D’Souza said. “I’d say, ‘Didn’t they have a few minutes to tell me?’ ” Last month, the company hired a former Kmart executive, Julian C. Day, as chief executive Shares of RadioShack rose 29 cents, to $18.21.

.. and he's fucking your girlfriend behind her back.
Once they start fucking someone else they're not really your boy/girlfriend anymore. At that point you're just another fuck buddy.. treat them as such. As for the main topic. I hadden't heard anything about Radio Shack layoffs. It doesn't surprise me, though. Nobody repairs electronics anymore, anything else you need from there can usually be found at Home Deopt or Best Buy. So all that's left is their Tandy stuff, and how many people need crappy remote controlled cars and off-brand electronics these days? Radio Shack filled a niche for a good while, but it's niche is dying out. Thanks Wal*Mart and the disposable electronics market!

Radio Shack filled a good niche badly for many many years. But other than watch batteries and a satellite tripod, I haven't needed them in almost a decade.
This, however, is screaming towards the top of the "How to be Corporate Douchebags" list. And it's a long fucking list.

In the ass? I thought about fixing that to be clearer, since I knew some of you sarcastic bastards would read it that way. Behind his wife's back, ie: without her knowledge.

It's probably a really bad idea to fuck your boss's wife when she's not asking for it too.

Know more about Azumanga Daioh, nub - it's one of the 5 best anime series of the last decade. No matter how many times you watch them, they never get old. The manga on the other hand is WTF?

A thought. To be discussed. This whole "find a job" as implemented in America thing is totally borked. Good useable and productive people miss jobs because they don't flat out lie on there resume? In reality you just keep applying until you get a job because you have no chance getting a job that you might be qualified for. Or that kiss of death, when you really need a job and they tell you your overqualified. I got so overqualitfyed that I ended up homeless. The spell checker let me down here. But I'm to lasy (or drunk) to care. deal with it or ignore it.

75%, a number I've seen, of all jobs in the US are recieved by networking. This is particularly true the higher/more skilled/more specialized you go. Blindly applying for anything and everything and lying about your qualifications is not the way to get a real job.

Schild, bro, I do not doubt that the anime cartoon has merits above and beyond BSG, but I think I'm going to have to ask you to define 'niche', since conversationally, at least, niche indicates a smaller audience, and for better or worse, I think its fair to say that BSG has had more exposure than just about any anime cartoon.

I think you may be mistaken on the comparative popularity of Battlestar Galactica to ALL anime combined, at least in the US. The pilot to this series, the biggest budgeted (US$7 million) pilot ever up to that time, was originally released theatrically in Canada, Western Europe and Japan in July 1978 in an edited 125-minute version. (See Saga of a Star World for information on the pilot).
On September 17, 1978, the uncut 148-minute pilot premiered on ABC to spectacular Nielsen Ratings (attracting 65 million viewers). From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlestar_Galactica_%281978_TV_series%29To the best of my knowledge I can't think of any Anime that appeared in prime time on a major US network.

I think Schild meant in terms of its content appeal, i.e. BSG is crazy sc-fi that only us nerds like while Azumanga is about growing up and life at school, universal themes.
That said, WTF? What were you smoking when you made that statement?

Given that this Azumanga Diaeuoaeieoh isn't on TV in the USA, or at least on any channels that I've noticed, I'd say it's perfectly reasonable to have not seen it or heard about it (I've done the latter, but not the former). BSG, however, is on a TV channel in the USA.
Worldwide it may very well be more popular. We're not in the world. We're in the USA, dammit.

Those timetravelling BSG rapesquads roaming around the countryside surely messed up some of you in their youth. Only explanation for that much hatred.
BSG is on TV channels in Europe as well, never heard about Azumanga Diablabla. Anime runs in the children programs over here or very late at night though, so I might have missed it.
