Wow. They just crumpled without Lum!  :-D

This seems awfully un-Mark Jacobs*. The details must be interesting.

*not that I could blame him for accepting a big fat check. But EA??

Oh, neat. I heard about this a while ago but didn't think it would happen. Now I have to boycott Mythic. Interesting turn of events.

Well, there go any hopes at all of WAR being a decent game.

I thought EA was giving up on the entire MMORPG thing.

On the upside it might just mean the end for GOA.

I accept that doesn't do us any good if the MMOG itself takes a last minute change of direction and becomes a crappy console sports title or whatever.

It's actually a pretty damn smart move by EA. There isn't a better way to fast forward back into the MMO game.

I doubt this will do anything to destroy what's in the works with WAR. Probably won't improve it either. I'm kind of worried about how they'll crank out and handle expansions though (Look at how they've tried to milk BF2. A shooter).

That sounds plausible...if EA hadn't utterly fucked up every single other MMOG they bought, developed or cancelled.

Damn I was really hoping EA would buy Turbine before they bought Mythic, I wonder how long before EA just buys the country of Korea?

My favorite MMOG of all time (and not even my first!) being absorbed by the borg.  This is a very sad day!

You don't really need to. It's fairly possible that they'll implode by themselves.

Oops...I didn't clarify. It's a smart move for EA is what I meant. It saves them a lot of trouble.

Whether it saves everyone else a lot of trouble is another thing.

Also, this might be a good indicator that WAR is looking good already. Naturally, EA wants a WoW killer. They must see something here that would give them a good chance.

[edit]

And on the same note: Wtf are they going to buy Turbine for?

I wonder if EA pushed for the test trial of WAR on the X-box.  It seems Blizzard are destined to have the best mmorpg for next few years, I'm not buying into Conan and I don't see anything else on the horizon now that we can pretty much write WAR off.

Sounds like a smart move for the owners of Mythic and a smart move for EA. Maybe not so happy for the Mythic employees (unless they had shares) and crappy for customers.

Apologies, the robot forces me to deal with it this way: Continue discussion here -> http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=7376.0

Btw, Simond, didn't mean to hijack your thread, but at this point I'm fairly sure merging it with the other one would have fucked up the robot. If it doesn't (as per Trippy saying so), I'll start doing that instead.

As long as the first post in the topic with the same name as the front page article is created by ForumBot it should be fine -- i.e. if you merge this thread into the one started by ForumBot it should work.

It isn't wise to rile ForumBot.

Probably still doesn't matter as long as ForumBot created the topic. Let me test it.

Okay don't merge, it doesn't quite work right. The merge will work but if you edit the front page article it'll mess up the first post in the topic.
