I'm going to assume he jammed pencils in his ears when people were trying to give him constructive feedback.

You're a fucking mind reader. Signe is laughing (and a little bit creeped out) because I had just told her that's why he was deaf.

My hearing loss came at a later date, due basically to my stupidity.

So what did you do, then?

Don't laugh...  I was an OTR driver for many years, and I was told this was common when there is only large hearing loss in the left ear.  Basically I always had the window down :(  When driving for years in this way at highway speeds, it causes hearing loss, due to the sound of the wind.

No Nerf, but I put a link to this very thread and I said that you all can guarantee for my purity. I even mentioned your case, and see if they can take a look at your lawn from a Michigan perspective.

I will not outright lie and say that I was anywhere near a combat situation.
Good.

There were also times when I didn't wear them, but somehow managed to avoid the tragic hearing loss.
Then again, it is entirely possible that you have just been in an absolute fuckton of live combat situations.
Based on what you have said I imagine you probably did 4 years and got out? I was in for 15+ starting back in 1989 with Operation Just Cause. I'd been in 2nd Ranger Bat for all of 1 week when we got deployed that December to Panama.

For no reason whatsoever, I just don't believe it.
Well within your rights to do so. However integrity is still something I live by to this day due to it being drilled into me for all those years.

Also, I just wanted to make a list.

PS  Just realised it would probably be easier for Ironwood if we used a bigger font.

Ha ha comedy gold.

I'd love to add to this secret-problems pity fest, but I'm in ok shape overall. I have a couple cavities that I need to do something about and I've been putting off getting one of my wisdom teeth pulled for about 10 years - not a huge deal.

Other than that I'm good - I strut around with the body of an underwear model. I have abs! (I mean...visible ones)

Yes, I turned this thread into an excuse to brag about my abs.

I'd just like to say that this wasn't my intention AT ALL, and I'm hoping like fuck it didn't come out that way.

If I wanted Self-Pity to come across, I'd post more in the WoW boards.

It didn't.  It was even somewhat interesting.  Not nearly as intersting as gunfire related hearing loss, but there you go.

Wow.  The best I can come up with is "man, that sounds really shitty".   Or perhaps "dang, that stinks".

You definitely win the thread.

1 Gunshot wound, left forearm, cracked skull, two shoulders I can now dislocate at will, a total of three knee surgeries, one of them replacing my anterior curciate ligament with that of a caadver (so I'm part zombie, actually...) Three broken ribs, eight broken teeth, a broken thumb, A broken toe, a slightly askew breastbone and tendonitis in most of my fingers.

And I can quote every John Hughes teen movie to come out of the 80s, Star Wars, Star Trek, Aliens, The Princess Bride, both Bill & Ted movies. I can also sing the theme song to almost any television show that aired in the US or Japan between the years 1975 and 1996.

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something.  We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail

No, that explains the translucent skin and the propensity to squint like a mole whenever the big bad evil sun comes up.

Quiet, feet.

And not Rugby, Ironwood... ice hockey with a smattering of big wall climbing.

Ah, you play Rugby.

Most of the guys I played football with in college would call you a newbie.... and that includes the gsw.  Only 3 knee surgeries?  You hockey guys need to toughen up!
