I use a canon 20D, and as far as I'm concerned it is teh awesome (though it is now discontinued and replaced by the 30D).

That said, I only got it because it was on special offer. To anyone buying an SLR now I'd recommend the 400D, and use the cash saved to upgrade lenses.

I have the exact same camera and would second your advice.
I love my SLR tp bits, but wished I'd gone a bit cheaper and used the rest for a decent 300mm.

I going through my pictures at the moment, and I'll see if I have any to match yours. But after having kids most of my motives are very similar and my locations somewhat less exotic.
