Since a few people asked in another thread, here's some of the pics from my recent trip to Cambodia and Vietnam.  I took over 600 pictures (go digital camera!) so there's a LOT more than these few.

The reason everyone and anyone comes to Camboida:  Ankor Wat

Inside the main complex (already up a story or two)

The view from the top

The temple of Bayon

And a close up - those faces are at least four feet tall each, and there were dozens.

Rounding out the Big Three of the Ankor Wat area temples is Ta Prohm

The classic Ta Prohm picture

The Killing Fields Memorial - If you don't know the history of the Khmer Rouge, look it up.

On to Vietnam!  Here in Hanoi is the Mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh himself, where his body is still on display (and which I saw and was creepy).

Halong Bay, somewhat southeast of Hanoi.  Thousands and thousands of little islands

Last one

If you guys like these, I've got several from a trip to the Philippines that I consider more impressive that I can put up.  I'd put them up but I'm too lazy to upload anymore right now.

Oh, and post your own pics!  Sharing is good  Hello Kitty

Beautiful, man (err...except the skulls). Never had the chance to go there, but I'm a quarter Cambodian myself. I'm surprised you didn't hit up Thailand though (I'm a quarter that too!).

Anyways, sorry, no pics. A vacation is long overdue.

I spent two days in Bangkok at the end of this trip (during the lunar new years!), have some crazy pics from that but they might be blackmail material.  Spent almost two weeks around the country the year before - Can you say Full Moon Party?  wink

Stonehenge.

Notre Dame.

Geneva (post-riots)

Salzburg (as seen from the fortress)

This doesn't really count as a vacation pic since it's from my hometown, but it's pretty nonetheless.

And to think I almost had a chance to travel around China for 3 weeks.

You're still a boy!  There's no reason you can't go to China someday.  You have your whole life ahead of you.  Well, unless some mafia don murders you  or something.  Or you die from some painfullly disfiguring and horribly debilitating disease due to toxic waste.  Those sorts of things happen all the time in New Jersey.  Geez... we better get the hell out of here, Straz.  I say we go to China NOW!  Before it's too late!  RUN!

Well, the problem is I have no idea when or if I will be able to go and see these places for myself.

That's probably why people bitched at me for "running around" when we were seeing shit.

They thought I was rushing.

I just wanted to make the time count.

In a cave.  Ruby Falls.  Pretty cheesy.  Natural beauty isn't enough for the riff-raff, so they added colored lights and an orchestral soundtrack at the end.

Same day.  Rock City is less cheesy than I thought.

Thank you, and she's not.  But she tries very hard.  You can PM/email me if you are curious.  I'm guessing you are not.  You remind me of her at times.

My son is 38 inches tall.  I don't know what that is in kilometers.

Both Ruby Falls and Rock City are just outside Knoxville, TN.

@Sky: These two attractions were total old-school tourist traps.  Still, I looked past the cheese and it wasn't bad.  I think there is some state-park action nearby, but I can't take these two there.  The waterfall inside Ruby Falls cave is actually impressive.  Too bad they assed it up with the lights and music.  There is a larger part of the cavern which hasn't been (that I can tell) been given the lightshow treatment, but they don't let people down there.

Rock City is cool but don't go into the fairy-tale-land part.

One of our local caverns, Howe Caverns, has a great feature even if it's kinda odd. They made a 'pipe organ' by attaching little piston-thingies to different rock formations that were tuned to certain notes. It's pretty cool, but the place is totally whored out. It's a shame, it was a great cavern, I remember when I was a kid before it was really whored badly. Luray Caverns (in VA, iirc) had the 'world's only' stalactite organ...I guess the Howe version is a stalagmite, though it sure seems like a flow into stalactites to me.

The 'pipe organ'.

Yes, because I've never seen a real organ, it's great to know that someone has made one out of a one-of-a-kind natural formation for me.  I hope there's a T-shirt!

I think I have confused Yegolev with his son.  I'm terrible with age and size.

God, luray was cheesy as hell. I stopped there a few months ago. It's amazing how natural beauty can be destroyed by tourists; I saw all sorts of trash littering holes and the the stink of people was overly prevalent.

It's been a decade since I was there, but I remember lots of the stalact/gmites were snapped off by tourists. People are savages.
