So this fourm and all you guys talking about it made me interested enough to download it and play the 14 day trial/tutorial.
I seem to have completly missed any ability to choose my character. I followed the links, and the only choose was race and bloodtype. Where do I go to choose my stats again?
More importantly, the backgrounds and player guide tells me next to nothing about which race is good (or bad) at what. So I'd like to ask you experts:
I don't expect to do much mining, I hear it's too boring. I don't expect to ever do research, I hear there's no way I can contribute just as a newbie, I'd like to do rating/missons/trading/exploring/finding a corp (you guys perhaps if you'll have me?)/helping a corp.
So what race and bloodline is a suggestion? Not nesscarily the "best" as I know it's all subjective. 1/3 of the way through the tutorial I don't mind the look of my minamter ship, though the guy piloting it is uggglly as hell.

The initial race you choose will affect your stats, but not as much as the sub-race you choose. For example, the Brutor, Sebiestor, and new-asian-bloodline-name are the minmatar subraces. If you hold your mouse on the little blue icons to the right of the name, it will tell you the starting stats and skills for that subrace/bloodline. Now, make sure your class is CUSTOM, and keep going. By again mousing over the little blue icons to the right of the picture, you can see what new skills you'll gain and what, if any, stat changes will come with each choice you make. Important stats (someone back me up on this) For a combat character such as you seem to be interested in: Perception Intelligence Willpower Memory Charisma .... are important in that order. But since you will likely need to use each of those stats a fair bit (except charisma), I'd go for a rouded character with (Per and Int) a point or two higher than (Wilp and Mem), which should be another point or two higher than Charisma, which is the worst stat by far. Some people prefer to really max out a stat or two in the beginning, usually per and int. Depends on your style I guess; my character, while combat 90% of the time, does a bit of everything to keep things from getting tedious. The Eve forum for new players and in-game rookie chat both have lots of good advice as well. Be sure to join the chat channel f13 right away, and join the corp later on once you're comfortable with the game Edit: Spelling is hard

2/10 WOULD NOT INGEST

I would suggest not getting too attached to your first character, in case it turns out you want to do something else. Be sure to go through the custom creation, like Turtle said. On the other hand, your stats really only affect the amount of time it takes to train skills, not what you can learn and ultimately do in game, so any gimping you do during creation isn't going to keep you from doing things in the long term.

How do you connet to F13 chat? I fear I'm guilty of minimizing my chat window, 99% of the time.

I joined it a couple of days ago. It was kinda full of people asking if a bloke with missiles was still waiting outside the station for them, and wondering if he'd blown up their cans yet. It reminded me of school. I spent a couple of years at one sash-wearing, orange-flag-waving, fiercely protestant establishment (c. 700 pupils), which was right next door to the Catholic school (school roll 30). They let our school out 15 minutes beforehand, in order for the militant wing of the fourth year to set up a proper cordon and decide on the evening's griefing tactics. I can picture similar, huddled discussions going on inside the RC school to what went on in F13 chat.

EVE has a distressing lack of tool tips, so I can't recall how I set F13 to a channel. Under mail and groups I think?
How do I set "orbit and range XXXX"? I did it in the turtoiral, no idea how to do it now.

If I remember correctly you have to target something first (doesn't matter what) and then right click on the little orbit icon on the target list panel and select "set range" or whatever from there. You would think you could just right click the target from the target list and set it from there, but no, that would be too easy.
