Ok registered for my 14 day account.  downloading the CD-capacity client.

Next question is should I consider client peripherals.  I have a decent joystick though it's a few years old.  Issue?  Other stuff I should consider?

don't use a joystick, its not that kinda of a game. think rock, paper, scissors

I started with nothing, and I still have most of it

I'm not a complete idiot... Some parts are still on backorder.

You don't use a joystick to pilot your ship. It's not like Wing Commander or X-Wing -- it's all point and click and selecting various waypoints and destinations from menus. The game is fairly memory intensive (or was, I don't know if they ever properly fixed the memory leak/consumption issue) so it helps to a lot of RAM.

Gotcha - thanks for the conceptual clarifications.

And damn - I was sort of hoping for an Elite/C64 experience. :)  I love the Jumpgate-style physics.  Clearly I'm so low on the learning curve as to be a benthonic feeder.

Prepare yourself for the longest tutorial ever, but it will actually teach you things you need to know so it isn't ALL bad.  Some aspects are, but in the end you get a nice reward.

Yeah, finish the tutorial until it TELLS you that you are done. You get a nice trinket that sells quite well and will give you some much needed starting fundage.

Oh, and one other thing... don't get too enamored of the tutorial chick. You will regret that decision when she laughs hysterically at you for getting podded your first time. Bitch.

Take the implant.  I don't want to scare you, but you'll feel like a n00b even if you buy 20mil ISK from IGE on top of using/selling the implant.  Sure, we could all use money, but it's not going to substitute for player experience, which is what counts in EVE.  Just read some of Nija's posts.

Yea, take the implant, specifically to sell it. I believe (though haven't been able to confirm) that the first time a new player account does the Tutorial, they'll get the implant they can sell on the market (to NPCs) for 2mil ISK. Thereafter though, any new character on that account that runs the tutorial could end up for the relatively cheap 250k ISK implant. Regardless of what you get though, it'll be enough to buy a better Frigate and equip it with non "Civilian" stuff.

And as to IGE, better to learn the game first, see if you like it second and then decide whether it's worth extra real world cash to "enhance" the experience (read: reduce the grind2riches). So far I haven't been so poor it's been unfun. Doing combat missions and general ratting, as well as a week of inter-system Trading, has netted enough comfort for the level I'm playing at (T1 cruiser stuff, though T2 would also be very affordable). Since I don't like playing with stuff I can't afford to replace four times over, it's worked pretty well :)

Yeah, I've run the tutorial a few times with two accounts, and have got intel+1 * 2, memory+1 * 1 and cha+1 * 2, in that order.

As of yesterday, the first sells to NPCs for 1.5 million in starter Caldari space, the second for 540k, the last two for about 50k.  Which meant I just fitted them.  Why not, since my characters charisma (erm, 3 in one case) hardly compared with their intel (up to 19 already on that one, before implant).  Social skills were looking lengthy, otherwise.

If you're hard up for cash, you can buy a time card and sell it (legally, endorsed by CCP) that way. People who make tons of isk usually don't pay the monthly fee. They just pick up time cards.

How many story line missons do i do to get the implat? I've done about 5 now and about 5 others from some other agent, and no impant.

Defending the Galaxy, from the Scum of the Universe, with nothing but a flashlight and a tshirt. We need tanks Boo, lots of tanks!

Uh oh - the first storyline agent I got wanted me to haul slaves.  I'd been playing Eve for all of 45 minutes and with all her talk about "testing my trustworthiness" figured there was no way a Ni-Kunni would hire another Ni-Kunni to run slaves so turned it down.  Needless to say the agent doesn't much like me now.  I felt pretty good about it especially when later on another agent wanted me to run drugs.

But now - I guess I'm overthinking things again.  Just take all quests?

Well, drug running is profitable. However, the space-pigs dislike the running of illegal contraband. They also dislike the people who do it, and the ships they fly. Their dislike is usually expressed in the form of large caliber guns and/or missiles  :-D

A lot of Amarr missions support the slave trade.   You might enjoy Minmatar missions more, although you'll find the Amarr don't much like you if you do that.  And it will pretty well derail the storyline, I suspect.  If you want to get back with the Amarr, try a couple levels of Diplomacy, should raise your standing about .8.

The implant mission will explicitly list the implant as the reward, so you will know when you get to it.  If you keep running storyline missions, it will be along, as will others.  Non-storyline missions have no impact on it, as far as I can tell.
