Has Lucasarts at least released a patch by now that keeps it from crashing on your PC every loading screen?

Yeah, I mean, I'm not an idiot.  When you reach the kind of soul crushing realization that the game you've been playing for 40 hours is unfinishable due to a bug, you look on the internet for a solution.  You scour the level for some secret way out.

Forgive me, but I suffered from some transferrence there.  I've played so much WoW where people can't even bother to read the fucking handholing quest-text that lays out exactly what to do and where that I've started to just expect it of people.  My apologies.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.

I'm waiting for Team Gizka to finish up their project before I start playing KOTOR2.

I know, it may be some time. But it's already been awhile, and I'm in no huge rush.

I agree completely. It's $20 now, worth the dough to buy just to sit on the shelf a few more months. I put about a hundred hours into two playthroughs of the original...

I admit I'm slow, though. I'm still level 11 with about 50 hours into Oblivion...without smoking any pot.

I was going to try to go through what I remember of Korriban, but I can't straighten out what happened there in 1 vs 2. All I know is, you'll eventually walkthrough the main central room and a cut scene kicks in. You can't leave until that happens.

The storyline in 2 had some real strengths and the game had way more versatility. On the otherhand, it was buggy as hell, didn't give you the cool non-jedi class levels like 1, was waaay too fucking easy (even boss jedi never use force powers against you - ever), and, oh yea, was never finished...

Oh, and why the fuck would they design the opening level to take 12 hours to complete with a grand total of 5 minutes interaction with NPCs? Other than that 5 minutes, its 11:55 of blowing up robots and running through corridors.

Yes, however, you are better off without the patch.

If the game crashes every 30 seconds, at least you can kid yourself that there is a good game in there somewhere.

With the patch you have to face the truth. The storyline is awful, the pacing is terrible, the combat is trivial, without the missing content almost none of the character's arcs ever reach a conclusion, and tbh, you'll be bored of most of them by the end of the second planet. I couldn't even listen to Bao-Dur drone out a sentence by the end of my first conversation with him.

Worst. Star. Wars. Game. Ever.

Huh...I liked Bao-Dur (played by Roger G Smith of Spike Lee fame). I think he was trying to affect the attitude of something like a shell shocked Vietnam veteran. I thought the drone was a nice touch.

Anyways, I'm convinced that I took the one path in the game that gave me at least a 90% complete storyline. In my experience, the game wasn't even half as bad as you all are saying.

The ones most upset with KoToR II are the ones who play Dark Side first. The story breaks down in that game more than the light side.

I have played it through a couple times because its the only game I have.  I have yet to see Bao Dur go beyond the little discussion about being in the war with me.  I am currently having better luck with the dark side story than I did the light side......

It quite hard actally. You can (spoiler i guess) turn him over to the dark side as well as making him a jedi, but i've not yet managed to do it. He is just so nice.

All content implemented. Still a bunch of fixes left, but only 244 out of 695 left...and only 1 major one. Getting there, I bought a copy of Kotor 2 that's on the shelf for the next few months until they finish up. I'm pretty excited.

I have had a Thai box for quite a while, installed on a hard disk somewhere in the bowels of my rig, waiting for the day that this is finished.  For my wife, not me.  I don't think I care anymore.  I had to watch Boiler Room because of this game.

At level 28 in CoV, I finally weakened and installed KotOR2. Playing as a light jedi, three planets done. Great game so far, though I know it'll end badly. I figure I played KotOR on the xbox twice, so I'll play 2 at least that many times on the pc, so no big deal. I'll get to see it 'done', maybe even get an appreciation for what Team Gizka went through to finish it.

They incremented two more builds since I checked last week and killed a major bug that had crept in. Looking good, 177 more items on the list, none major.

Odd coincidence seeing this thread...

I checked the Team Gizka site today for the first time in months out of idle curiosity, they're up to build .81something or other and down to like 25 bugs and issues.

I've never understood why some people are interested in this attempt to finish the end of Kotor 2.  Did I miss something?  I tried to play the game like a proper anal retentive lightside jedi and every single time I tried to help someone I had to listen to a bitchy old lady whine about how I'm making them weaker by stopping people who are trying to beat them up.  From what I understood by asking around Obsidian fucked up the important parts of a Bioware game as well by not including proper romance options or even a decent romance plot to spice up the story (just like they fucked up NWN2).

I guess what I'm asking is if they have fixed the lightside ending is there any hope for the above points?  Do I get to off that bitchy old lady?  Will I see some interesting dramatic but happy ending stuff for my npcs?  Etc etc.   I want to erase the horror of Kotor 2 from my mind but it sounds like Team Gizka is just trying to fix up an unfinished ending.

No idea about the content. Far as I know it's the original endgame content that was on the disc plus some homebrew content so that it makes some sense.

As for why? Hell hath no fury like scorned Star Wars nerds.

I think it's fine to fix it up, but I cannot get behind the idea that this might cause some sales to be made.  It seems like shitty games sell well because assholes like me end up buying it twice.  At least my PC version of it is Thai and the money didn't go to Obsidian in any way.

kreia = star wars version of atheist.
after a while thinking about it, it's the closest analogy i can get when trying to remember her motivations in the game.
your character is an atheist as well, he ditched the jedi code. It's a pity Lucas Art never provide that 'Death of the Force' ending.

ofcourse the way they handled the original shitty ending is pretty much a downer, so I'm really hoping gizka finish what obsidian started. And hopefully Obsidian doesn't touch KotOR 3. leave it to Bioware please. you've done enough crap. Go do Oblivion 2 or something.

Obsidian didn't want to release when they did -- LucasArts forced it out the door, unfinished.

The gameplay wasn't bad (just an slightly updated version of the KOTOR engine), the story seemed quite good as far as it went, and the characters were memorable and the approach to the Force (through Kreia) very interesting. Unfortunately, it was a buggy piece of shit on release AND the ending was a hacked together mess. Which is what happens when someone forces it out the door 3 months too soon, minimum.

Gizka is fixing part of that (the ending) and I believe cleaned up some bugs that weren't engine related in the process.

KOTOR 2 had ridiculous potential. I sometimes imagine what could have been if the story had been fully fleshed out and the duration was closer to that of BGII. The best part about the game imo is how it turns the typical simplicity of a star wars good versus evil morality tale on its head. Few of the major players are pure-hearted or without some sort of terrible burden.

If the resto project ever arrives, it will notably include more dialog with your various apprentices, a conclusion to the HK-51 arc that fizzles out, and a much better ending - your buddies confronting Kreia; a resolution of the potential Handmaiden - Visas or Atton - Disciple rivalry; some other stuff. Can't wait.

NWN2. Obsidian is officially On Notice. Either cut better publishing deals or learn to work within a timeline. I'd push for better deals, since they certainly seem like a great dev house and have an impressive lineage.

Indeed.  NWN2 took all the good bits from NWN, gave them a graphics overhaul and then made them suck terribly.

Aliens!  They've done "Aliens: The game"!  Oh wait - no, that's on their to-do pile.

Nope - looks like those are the only two games they've, ahem, developed.
