I just rented this game.  You start out trapped on a asteroid mining facility.  I made it through a certain point, then it switched me to a droid who was supposed to free me the rest of the way.  So I made it through some more shit with the droid until I get to a computer console that is supposed to unlock yet more shit.  When I'm done hacking it or whatever, the screen pans out like it's doing a little video, and a giant laser beam from nowhere shoots me, instantly destroying the droid.  Then the screen goes black.  When I press start it acts like I'm controlling my Jedi dude in the menu system, but the playing screen is black.  I'm assuming this is because my droid died before he could save the Jedi. However, I've been through this tiny ship like 20 times and the only thing left to do is what gets a laser shot at me and a black screen.

something is le broken.

That is a storyboard cinematic.  It is supposed to happen, and you are supposed to get controll of your jedi back like normal.  Your game appears to be fucked up.

KOTOR II is one of those games when they aren't kidding about saving to a different file everytime and saving often.  I don't know how many times I had to start over because of the saving problem.

I don't think there's any need for the "backing up" euphemism considering your first post says you rented it, just say "pirated"  tongue.

Get out now.

The game varies between tiresome, tedious and trivial from start to finish. Just replay Kotor I while you still have your sanity.

KOTOR1 rockked my world.  I never finished KOTOR2.  Sad but true.

I got to the 'end' of Kotor 2.

I can't say I finished it.

Normally I am against that piracy shit. But this is Kotor 2 we are talking about, those fuckers ripped me off when I bought their game in good faith. Backup away!

Glad to see i'm not the only one who thought KOTOR II was not so great. I didn't finish it too.  If you want me to be a Jedi, give me a lightsaber within the first couple of hours!

Hmm, I don't remember the ending being all that bad (or imcomplete). I especially liked the voice actors (and characters) in 2 over those in 1. The only problem I had with it (and with Kotor I as well) is that it was way too easy. The leveling progression was out of balance with the story progression, I guess. By the time I started raiding the Sith outpost (or school? don't remember), I was wiping out entire rooms of dark jedi's and siths in a matter of seconds, over and over again. Something along the lines of AoE Lightning --> AoE Stun --> Lightsaber.

I remember all the complaints from some long thread when it came out.  Personally, I didn't think the story was too bad, maybe that's because I stuck to light and most people who hated it seemed to go dark.  I know it wasn't as good KoToR 1 and I guess if that is your only basis for comparison 2 probably did "suck", but it was still much better than 95% of other games.

Holy shit there are a lot of bugs in this game.  For instance, were any of you aware that the Swoop racing mini game WILL NOT recognize your time?  Found that out the hardway, spent over 1,000 credits getting the top time, only to have the track master say "Sorry, you had a pretty good time, but you didn't qualify as one of the top times."

As for the whole "backing up" euphemism...the siren song lures me to the rocks of debauchery everytime.  But in this case, it really is backing up, because that game will be off my system before my rental time runs out.

Well, I played light (couldn't stomach KOTOR dark side since the Kotor 1 "Assholish Kids beat an defenseless Alien up and ripping their sorry throats out while taunting the little fuckers wasn't an option" incident), and while the story wasn't bad, it just stopped partway through the game. The last planet didn't make any sense whatsoever. Cutscenes that didn't make sense because the where the end of storythreads that got dumped (One of your crewmembers as hologram even if he didn't die in this version), the cuts to other partymembers didn't advance the story, and the finish was a good and solid "Meh" (better leave it openended for the next part, don't want to restrict our options for Kotor 3).

I went through and played some KOTOR I last night and I enjoy KOTOR II much more.  The bugs hinder the game and the storyline does have its holes, but overall gameplay is just much better.  The amount of powers/feats are much more entertaining, and most the characters can *spoiler* become Jedi..  I think that when they get around to it, KOTOR III will knock people on their asses.  Something tells me that when it comes out, I will have to finally buy that XBOX 360...

I also enjoyed KOTOR2 more than the first one.  The game was better written, the characters were more interesting, and just overall the morality of the choices you made were way less black and white than the first one.  The only thing that kept it from being a classic was the hatchet job done to the ending.  That was a fucking crime.

I liked them both.

Sure, the final world on KotOR 2 sucked ass....but the rest of the game was very good.

Let me put it another way: I don't remember many details at all, let alone ones in the ending. At least not enough to complain and disregard the entire game about. I vaguely remember something that old woman told me about Revan going on a quest to find the "true" Sith, and how I was supposed to join him or something. Then I killed her.

The last cutscene was my ship taking off without me...

I remember having a sort of "Huh?" feeling about that.....But I figured that it was all some ambiguous setup for a sequel.

If they ever actually finish that rebuild into a workable product, they deserve jobs on Kotor 3.

As the TeamGizka site notes, the game was literally Not Finished. The final level of KoTOR 2 was a slapdash abortion and it should never have shipped in such a state. Shame, the rest of the game was really well done.

I just tell people to pretend the game's over when they land on the final planet and shut the Xbox off. It's better that way.

OK, this is believeable.  You took the right approach, I guess.  Most of the game was great, but the lack of a real ending broke the whole thing.  The HK-47 story was unfinished, for one thing.  Most things on the final planet made no sense, since dialog and scenes that were actually on the disc were not shown in the game.  I suppose it was my fault for actually getting into the great story that happened in the first 90% of the game.

I'm waiting for Team Gizka to finish up their project before I start playing KOTOR2.

I know, it may be some time. But it's already been awhile, and I'm in no huge rush.

God dammit.  I just got to this secret temple on Korriban, inside the Sith academy.  Well, I get to the last room where a Sith Lord is interred, and all three doors are locked.  I can't exit the entrance because the door sealed on me upon entrance.  When I say the doors are locked, they are the kind you can't hack with security.  Or bash.  Anyway, since I had two save states and they were both in the temple, the game is over for me.  It was fun, but fuck.

If I remember right, you're supposed to investigate the tomb, loot it and there's a door somewhere else in the room.

Yeah, I mean, I'm not an idiot.  When you reach the kind of soul crushing realization that the game you've been playing for 40 hours is unfinishable due to a bug, you look on the internet for a solution.  You scour the level for some secret way out.
