3D? That'll be interesting. Also, guild housing? There were guilds in Diablo 2? Why?

Starcraft 2 will be out probably the end of 07 to the middle of 08. I'd know nothing about that though.

The loot system isn't even remotely near good enough to even be in the same column as Diablo on a list of "games with the best loot."

I'm not sure why, but the first guild I joined ever (in UO) was an old Diablo guild.  I'm guessing it was a way to guarantee good people to group with.  Maybe it was also a good way to get strike force type pvp groups together.  Only my guesses.

Hellgate: London is Diablo 3.

Since the job posting seems to indicate you would be joining the Diablo/DiabloII teams, I'd say so, since those people are working on Helllgate.  Or Guild Wars, but apparently the GW people weren't the ones that coded in the fun.  Really, I'll give even money that either of these see shelf time.  Or don't suck.

Imagine the Christian Right's response when some hand-wringing midwestern housewife sees little Johnny raiding Heaven with his demonic guildmates, leaving piles of angelic corpses in his wake.  Shit, thats worth $60.00 right there.

The funny thing to me is that it would be the exact response you get when Little Johnny's mom sees him blasting demons.

and only a week earlier she had picked up a box marked "18 cert: suitable for adults only" called Murder Rampage in Heaven, and plastered with the words "Invade heaven and commit deicide on levels never seen before, now with realistic exploding Jesus's" then proceeded to buy it, wrap it and hand it over to her 12 year old son, and she wouldn't notice if she walked in a room right in the middle of an exploding Jesus scene, but only after she heard about it from another source.

Yes, unfortunately, while not holding any kind of majority on stupid, Christianity does seem to have some very large percentage of the Vocal stupid, perhaps second only to Hollywood.

Im not sure if I should laugh, cry or run screaming, at the direction this thread is going.

I really enjoyed Diablo 2. I played it online in locked games with my 3 housemates. It was really fun, and was basically a quick dungeon crawl we could all get in to and play for an hour or two and log for the night.

I'm not sure Guild Wars holds a candle Diablo in any of its basic elements.  Without the "MMOPRG" elements, it's just a crappy Diablo clone. A really crappy one at that, I think Sacred was better.

I don't think GW was an attempt to follow the path of Diablo.

EDIT: It's anti-loot whore design precludes that from the get-go.

I took that as meaning a Diablo MMO would be cool (since you seem to adore the series), but unnecessary with the release of GW.

Upon further reflection, perhaps you meant that a Diablo MMO would be stupid, since we already have a close approximation in Guild Wars?

A Diablo MMO would be stupid because you would lose all the elements that made Diablo fun and gain, what?  Another fantasy setting MMO?  That is in competition with WoW?

The only good niche for Diablo III is to fill the one left vacant by the aging Diablo II.  Fun, fast furious clicking with lots of shiney - in and out in less than 1hr, small groups, rapid pace, massive confusion.  Anything else would be a waste.
