Link here. Everytime I rembember posting this, someone says they missed out and would like to know when the next one is. It's for 14 days, so you should have time now. A 14-day free, all-access trial of Battleground Europe.

Starts January 27th (approx 1700ET)

Once you have created an account, you will be directed back to this promotion to complete your promotions signup page. You can't reactivate old accounts, only create a new one (its not a welcome back solider promo). Currenly the BEF is on the edge of the Rhine after 2 days, but has been kicked back out of germany yesterday. The French lost Metz (as usual) but are holding the Muese ok. It's currently Tier 0 equimpent, so no Tiger as yet (we'll probably see Tier 1 tanks/ATG/planes next week). Recent changes mean ALL of Tier 1 will arirve, though the day it arrives for each country will be delayed due to any stratagic bombing done to them (so we'll see the Laffy mobile ATG, BEF DAC armored Car and German Halftrack for once). There are lot of green tags (newbies) around, so if you join you probably won't be alone too much. There's a lot more attack objectives avilable, indicating a lot of players are trying the game out now. The front line has stablized, so the rolling of empty towns isn't happening much currently. This is the 2nd map to run with deploymenty (which the rats have been promsing for about 3 years), though we still havn't got indervidual brigade tables of equipment (so all briagdes currently have the same spawn list, there isn't "tank" or "infantry" heavy brigades).

I think it's more important to note that I've never seen anyone so dedicated to a game as Comstar is to WWIIOL. I have to wonder why he plays it so much. Unless.....  |

No subs :(, only the Subchasers, DD's and Freighters still.
Rafter has been discussing a "Free rifleman" idea (started a week before Planetside announced thier version, so he probably got the kick start the idea from them) but no definte call yet. Probbaly have less ammo, less stamina, may be able to multicrew tanks/planes/ships. No news as yet.

Speaking of flying tanks...
On History Channel last night they had a show about secret Soviet arms programs in the 30s and 40s.
One was a flying tank. They hooked a big set of WW1 style byplane wings on a tank, and towed it into the air with another airplane like a glider.
Then it would be release over the battlefield and glide to a landing.
They actually tried it once, and it worked.
But they scrapped it because the towing planes were not powerful enough to make it practical.

No subs :(, only the Subchasers, DD's and Freighters still. Why would you have subchasing boats if you don't have subs to chase after? Do they just putter around in circles going "I THINK I SEE ONE! LAUNCH DEPTH CHARGES!" Moles don't play WoW, nor does Blizzard need moles to pump up their game. |

Why would you have subchasing boats if you don't have subs to chase after? Do they just putter around in circles going "I THINK I SEE ONE! LAUNCH DEPTH CHARGES!" The Fairmile B is a light patrol boat, orignally designed to chase off surfaced submarines. Not very good at it though. It's basicaly a patrol boat. Moles don't play WoW, nor does Blizzard need moles to pump up their game.
The mole is designed to make posts to fit in, and at the key moment, plug something. WW2OL does not fit in very well here now does it. In a slight update, CRS rat Rafter posted that the're writing a spec for the free rifleman idea, sounds like they plan on doing it, but my guess is it's at least 1-2 months away. |

When I played WWIIOL many years ago there was at least one suggestion thread on their forum for a fodder program.
What they should really have is a light graphics ActiveX browser plugin client that you can point your browser at (no login required). It drops you in as fodder randomly near a battle. Web games for the win.

Or apparently completely effective in chasing off submarines, right out of the game! Your fanboi is hanging out if you are defending the addition of subchasers to a game without subs. I played the last beta free trial thingy they had, and it's going to take a lot more than riflemen fodder to make this game worth playing for free. Hell, I was rifleman fodder no matter what I did.

I logged in for the free time a couple of weeks ago. I didn't see anything greatly new except for the new (still confusing) interface. I thought it was typical CRS planning to have free time when none of the new vehicles were out.
What the game really needs for noobies is a giant "instant action" button that drops them into the nearest combat hotspot. That and a total graphical upgrade cause looking at those ugly graphics is a huge letdown after playing Call of Duty 2 on the 360.
