I don't believe shield hardeners work like that - I think they only guard against damage types, not weapon types (so Kinetic, Thermal, Explosive, EM).

I might be wrong, as I'm not in a position to look these things up, although I have had shield hardeners before.

I need a new Gallente frigate after last night's debacle (tip for all you kiddies out there- the Monastery is a bad place for little ships). Or I might decide to go with a destroyer. Or switch racial ships and try something else.

On the off chance that someone comes across named heavy missile launchers, I'd enjoy a couple of those.

I'll keep an eye out.  I pick up one or two on a few missions, but I haven't been getting those missions at the new agent.  Probably because I only have a 2.8 reputation with him.  My last agent was 7.9.

I've got a bunch of small stuff I've been picking-up, though.  Anyone flying frigates, or putting small guns/ normal launchers on their cruisers?

I will be in the small gun class for the next couple of weeks at a minimum.

I don't think it matters who you point it at since it won't hurt anything more than a couple of meters away.

Learn all about guns and tracking and speed. I'm sure someone else linked it somewhere earlier. But, this is really important stuff here.

Yeah I have read it a few times. Not sure how much I understand (or care to), but I get the basic concepts.

I am interested in cargo expanders or mining upgrades, or Mining II lasers.  The loot I find is barely useful to me, but I will watch for things.  Is this the right thread to ask for an Exequror?

Interested in fancy heavy missile launchers, shield boosters (at least TechII, or 90 healed units/interval), special Large shield extenders.

I'll try to keep an eye out for fancy loot I find. Just sold a bunch, and I'm now nearing 20m ISK in my wallet.

wander over 2 systems and kill rats for an hour or two. You should walk away with about 10M isk. (I'm guessing you will get at least 1 5M drop there though).

Ok - grab 5000 missiles, and head into a complex with me - I need someone to hold all the ammo I will need. You might have to warp with me once or twice too.

Hey i just noticed a bunch of folks asking for Tech2 stuff.  I don't think any of that actually drops (if it does it's freaking rare as hell. I've never seen it.)  As far as I know, it's all player-made from BPs won in the tech lottery.  Therefore, your only place to pick it up is the market.

Speaking of the tech lottery- do we have anyone going down that path? What exactly is required to get started?

Also- I could use a top of the line frigate-sized AB. I have a 1MH now, but would like a Cold Jet or whatever they are called. They drop a lot, so I am sure one of you will find one for me soon!

I believe we have one nascent scientist (Archlin?). To get started researching, you need science 5 and one of the advanced sciences. Then you go to a R&D agent and start an R&D team, which enters you into the tech2 lottery for a given blueprint. Every day, your R&D team generates lottery tickets for you; you can also do one mission per day for each R&D team you control to double the amount of tickets they generate that day. R&D teams working in different fields tend to work on different blueprints. I think you can view what a given research field will yield the next time CCP decides to hit the 'payout' button, but I'm not precisely sure how.

There's no reason that everyone shouldn't get in on the lottery. You're crazy if you don't really.  Those advanced sciences you need require Science 5 and one of Electronics, Engineering or Mechanical 5. Since you're going to want to max out those last 3 anyway you might as well grab a research agent and have the chance of never having to grind for isk ever again.  Still, it's something to put off until after your learning skills are done and you're working on getting all your support skills up.

Is there some upfront investment required to getting a R&D agent?  Someone mentioned this elsewhere but I don't recall the whole rundown.  With Science 4 and Electronics 4, I am surprisingly close.

I'm going to make a specific point to never mess with the R&D or Production/Factory windows. I'm only interested in blowing things up...or keeping our stuff from getting blown up.

Fine by me, Straz, I really want you nearby when I am eventually flying my tissue-paper haulers.

Earlier I asked for Miner II but after looking at where I might go after the cruiser, I find that I am not really sure what would be a good mining platform.  For the mining-laser part, that is.  I might put seven lasers on a battlecruiser (battleship?) but running those simultaneously would rupture the cargo hold.  I'll ask for cargo expanders and Miner II lasers for now, but I need to think for a while.  And make a mining thread.

Are mining drones any kind of replacement for the lasers? I've been vaguely considering using a couple mining drones when I run guard duty....whenever that is. I've managed to fall asleep at weird times and totally miss everyone's playtimes Sat/Sun/Mon night.

I'm still getting use to working 12 - 8.

Drones are fine replacements for mining lasers, if you are not in a huge hurry.  I'll know more when I can field more than one.

Oveur mentions in this BPO Lottery bitch thread that a change to the distribution system is in the design stages. Hopefully I can make my billions before it gets nerfed =)

Drones are an okay replacement for the standard Miner I mining lasers. They pale in comparison to the volumes you can achieve with a good cruiser and Miner IIs and are completely dwarfed by the possibilities of Miner II battleships or top-end mining barges.

As for a mining setup, any decent mining yield will come from using Miner IIs; they're double the output of a Miner I for less than double the requirements. Sadly, manufacturing those will require tech2 blueprints and they don't drop off NPCs, so you'll probably have to buy them. Or ask one of our pirates to blow up a PC miner and take his mining lasers.

Another use for mining drones is if your mining in low sec and want to kit your ship out for combat (for when the rats arrive) you can do that and use the drones to do all the mining - sure it will be slower but thats the trade off for the additional firepower (or you could kit your ship out to mine and use combat drones for defence)

Update on what I need... thirty minutes from Refining 5, and while I could spend 250k on Refinery Efficiency, I thought I would ask first since I only have 700k in the wallet.  I think I am set on things otherwise, aside from setting my sights on a mining barge one day.
