Its now one window instead of many, and if you click the 2nd icon upper right it shrinks into one IM sized window... it's much better.

I actually like it.  Like Penfold said, you can shrink it down to it's old size.  There is also a server browser now.  That wasn't there before, right?  Now if they can get the friends list working, reduce memory usage, and debug the damn thing I'd be happy.

It's not perfect, but I think it's a step in the right direction.

I think it's ugly as hell myself. Also, for some reason it hogs CPU cycles if you drag on the new windows over another.

"Steam isn't ugly and bloated enough."

Hmm.  Isn't much of a concern, due to not having Steam installed.

I have it installed, but it fails to connect to the network every time I start up my computer. It used to work, and everything else I play still works, so I am not too worried about it. I got my HL2 copy gratis anyway.

Prior to this : Steam unworkably slow and clunky - uninstalled immeadiately after playing through HL2.

I've been playing a lot of DoD:Source lately. Maybe it's just my system, but it takes a lot of CPU type to redraw the new gui, so now whenever I run Steam it takes a good 2-4 minutes to load all the new windows if there's an update popup. Memory usage doesn't seem all that different, but it's clunkier anyway. That, and it's ass ugly.

I have to agree. The old one wasn't great, but it did have a slightly industiral feel to it. This just screams MSN/Yahoo/whatever... BLEH

The Steam billing process is just fantastic. I thought my credit card was blocking online purchases until I called them and found out it was a reoccuring issue with steam that their server doesn't get credit card companies approval codes. The kicker? I now have enough purchases of DoD:S to put 80 bucks on my credit card. Apparently steamed sent it 3-4 times. YAY!
