Gained 2 ranks with 2 kills and gained 3 ranks altogether tonight. Exp changes have worked out fine. Other changes all seem fairly good. Wake is fun.

I seriously doubt it.  You're the first person I've heard of that didn't want to play with vehicles(excluding aircrafts).

I have a global score of 5000ish, and am a staff sargeant now.

I had 13167 points as a Corporal when I stopped playing at the end of August. After my first three scoring opportunities tonight I got Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, and Gunnery Sergeant promotions. Gunnery Sergeant is 8000 points now, I believe, and the next rank up is Master Sergeant at 20K (or First Sergeant if you have the necessary badges).

I was about 1/16 from making Corporal when I checked my scores before logging-in.  After my first kill I made it to Corporal, and a few kills later I was Seargent and 1/4 of the way through that.  That gave me 2 unlocks, so I'm happy as a clam.  Unlocked the Assult kit and the Sniper kit and spent part of a map trying to snipe chopper pilots.  Unfortunatly they blew-up too quickly from folks using SAM sites for me to get one.

Also, I didn't really read-through the patch notes, but only one person per vehicle counts towards capping a flag.  Anyone else who wants credit/ assist has to hop out and stand around the flag.  Very nice change, no more chopper-hopping to Victory on the china swamp map.

Yeah, I ended up as a Gunnery Sergeant, and then promptly fucked up my 3 unlocks it gave me. I had already unlocked the Medic and Sniper weapons, so this time I went for the DAO-12, the PKM, and G3. I thought the DAO-12 was for the engineer, which is probably my third most often played class. Alas, it is for the anti-tank kit. I NEVER play the Assault class, but unlocked their kit for some dumbass reason. I think it was the description of how much damage the gun does. FUCK. It doesn't even come with a grenade launcher, which is pretty much the only reason to play assault that I can see.

Changes I like-
Names of drivers and passengers in vehicles (very useful if you need to get their attention for some reason)
Names of CPs on the minimap- I hated that I couldn't memorize the CP names to use in quick chat- this way, everyone will know wtf I am talking about now.

Changes I don't like-
No TKs for friendly arty. It is unrealistic, and it gives too much of an advantage to the side defending a CP- not only can they respawn right into the fight, now they can weather an arty barrage and keep fighting. That sucks. It evens out for both teams, but it is still sucks.

Haven't played Wake Island yet, but I am not sure how much different it is going to feel than the Operation Clean Sweep map (which I always felt was the spiritual successor to Wake anyway).

FUCK. It doesn't even come with a grenade launcher, which is pretty much the only reason to play assault that I can see.

I used to think that until I started getting wtfpwned by snipers using the M-16 as a medic and engy.  Assult has a lot more body armor so they're a lot more survivable.  The unlock gun doesn't have the launcher, but you do get grenades, which I've wished I had more often than the launcher on some of the city maps, and it's a fully-auto weapon for the US with a shitton more accuracy than the SAW.   Like all the weapons it's a situational thing, and also depends on your playstyle.

I never considered the body armor aspect. No wonder I shoot those bunny-hopping fucks 5 times and then get an M203 grenade in my lap for my trouble.

I didn't realize they actually took away deaths, I thought they just took away the team kill punishment for the commander.  That's really silly, a falling artillery shell should kill everyone it lands near.

I don't know for sure, actually. However, if they just take away the punishment and not the actual deaths, commanders are free to grief kill the everyliving shit out of their team. Either way, it is a stupid 'fix'.

The engineer shot gun seemed weak last night.  Damn Bunny hopping S.F.'s used to get WTF'pwned with my shot gun....now it takes two hits to there 1 burst to kill me 

I did notice that support seems a bit stronger now, was able to take down most classes when I was prone in one burst.

What server are most of you playing on?

I'm trying to find a good server now.  There's a new version of point farming going on in the month or so since I stopped playing.  Now when you join 'public' clan servers Autobalancing is always enabled... and the 'autobalancer' (admin..) always seems to get all of the clan members on one team and the public is on the other.  Getting slaughtered for points by a team using teamspeak and voice comm while random fucktards don't even bother capping flags or assulting enemy command isn't my thing.

What I don't understand is why DICE doesn't add in a HEFTY accuracy penalty for a second or so after you jump. BF1942 was really great about that, it's one reason I loved that game so much - it crushed bunny hoppers dead. It was all about the quick prone and burst to the head. BF2 is a step backward imo.

Your game having a reputation for bunny hopping = VERY BAD. But I guess the smacktards far outnumber me. Reflects reality, really.

100%. I'm not sure what the problem, I assume patch is. Thankfully it recovered 100% and my FAT32 drives are mostly pr0n and games, so nothing crucial... wait MY PORN? YOU BASTARDS YOU NEARLY ERASED ALL MY PORN!!! DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!

Any new of EAs asshatery causing such global problems with this patcher or did something happened with just this particular instance of it? I'm not sure I want to try patching my BF2 again.

Whenever Shockeye hosts a file, he gets it off an official server. Most of the time it never hits his computer. Just goes straight to our server location. When we get demos they come STRAIGHT from developers 90% of the time. Basically, blame EA (surprise?).

More strangeness from BF patch. This time I downloaded it directly from EA. Good news - it didn't corrupt my FAT so far (I yet to reboot). Second - it gives me error that reads "You have too little space on your hard drive to patch BF2(TM), you need at least 1600MB". I have more free space than that but WTF does it need 1.6G just to patch 2.8G game?

No and I downloaded my copy from f13. More likely the patch (or more accurately the OS) touched your drive in a bad place. I.e. the OS decided it wanted to write to some sectors that were bad and from the description of your problem it sounded like some sectors in your FAT. You probably want to scan your drive for bad sectors. If you are really paranoid about having your drive crash again you might want to invest in something like Spinrite.
