Avary was by some accounts the good side of the Tarantino movies. Without Avary? Kill Bill.

Kill Bill was Tarantino's love letter to Asian gangster movies and Uma Thurman. It just happened to make him some money in the process is all.

Resevoir Dogs was a better love letter if you want to call anything by that weasel by such a term.

But Res Dogs was also a kickass movie, so it doesn't count. Sorta.

No, it doesn't count. Reservoir Dogs is awesome (and Schild knows it...).
Then again, the best of RD can be attributed to Avary as well.

And it was awful. This is why I don't read other people's love letters.

Just because the screenwriter says something, doesn't make it true. After all, it's really the director's show. "Crying Freeman" doesn't rate too well as a film, so using it as an example of a previous work shouldn't really raise any hopes; "Brotherhood of the Wolf" wasn't too bad, on the other hand. Neither seem like a good fit someone to go on and direct "Silent Hill".
There, I'm done - please return to your Tarantino discussion.

I thought Kill Bill was a love letter to Uma Thurman's nasty, crust-infested feet, with some really bad Asian chopsocky and a pretense of a storyline thrown in to justify making 2 shitty movies out of 1/2 of a shitty movie.

Can't believe you guys are crying over Kill Bill. The previews told you it a cheesy martial arts movie, if you don't like cheesy martial arts movies, its your fault for watching anyway. I like do; I like Kill Bill.

Oh, I like cheesy martial arts movies. Just not that one. It displayed no talent other than the ability to blatantly rip off everything he's ever seen, no storytelling chops, and an insistence on dialogue that just didn't fit the scenes. It felt forced and crappy and crappity crap crap.

Isn't "homage" just a nice way of saying "the ability to blatantly rip off everything he's ever seen"? ;)

Even that was taken from Lady Snowblood.

Well I have nothing but respect for Tarantino's ability to revive the cold, dead careers of the likes of Pam Grier and John Travolta. Wait. Travolta, not so much. But hey, he brought Go Go to American audiences!
The first Tarantino flick I ever saw was Pulp Fiction. I was on three hits of acid. It touched me in my special place. And you gotta admit, the man has a knack for a soundtrack.
He did the same thing to the blaxploitation genre that he did to chopsocky, but I don't see too many people getting their roos in a wad over that.
Edit: Oh, and as long as the Silent HIll flick doesn't star the gorgeous but theatrically-challenged Milla Jovovich I'll buy. I think Topher Grace would make a good Henry though. Same voice and stuff.
Edit again: except that they're not making SH4. Oh wells.

While I am pleased that someone writing screenplays realized that Uwe Boll must be stopped, I'm more then a little skeptical that _anyone_ can handle a videogame movie.
Has anyone seen the previews for Doom? I mean, Doom is a gaming grandaddy, you'd figure it would get some of the best respect and attention available. But people were laughing at the first person scenes while watching the previews for Serenity.
When people going to a Space Western written by the guy who did Buffy think your movie looks corny, you're in trouble.

Its not Jovovich we are threatened by. (Because she is at least amusing in commentary tracks.) Its Jessica Alba. Someone needs to keep her OUT of movies, or at least movies not shown on Cinemax after midnight.

I only feel sad that the Rock has to try to play this piece of Uwe Boll-esque crap straight. The 1st person scenes look more retarded than the video game scenes Boll inserted into the House of the Dead movie as transitions.
