Okay, here's the link: Movie based on one of the three greatest comic stories, and in the top 50 stories in any media. Ever.

I've waited literally 20 years to see this movie. Problems are: 1) everyone involved is a fucking no talent shitpile. And 2) the trailer is only in quicktime, which is the second most foul medium spat out of Satan’s anus and will never be installed on any PC I use, work or at home. That means I can't watch it. So some of you watch it and tell me how bad they fucked it up based on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being low. Pretend you’re me and that Saving Private Ryan is a 3 because it’s predictable, clichéd shit with bad acting, but it gets +2 because it’s got a good opening. The Last Unicorn gets an 8 because it’s interesting and poses several interesting philosophical questions involving perception and universal truths. The Princess Bride gets a 10 for being the complete opposite of Saving Private Ryan and chicks like it.

Don’t forget, with Natalie Portman as Evey, Hugo Weaving as V, being directed by some stupid fag who was assistant director on Attack of the clones and the Matrix trilogy abortions, and the fucking Wachowski brothers, it just can’t be good. It’s going to be a flaming trainwreck of the most wooden acting since some fucker filmed a pile of firewood. The story is 90% dialog between two people alone in rooms. It’s like Deep Space Nine almost, but with killing and a plot that goes somewhere. Portman and Weaving will have to be two of the greatest actors of this age to make this movie not suck. So it sucks from the get-go.

And the other two greatest comic stories ever are The Watchmen and The Dark Night Returns. There has never been anything in the same league either before or after. Both Miller and Moore have come close again, but nothing as good has been done, even by them.

If I just looked at the trailer, without knowing who or what was behind it, or what V was, I'd say it resembles something like an attempt by the BBC to make a high budget action film. It doesn't look like mainstream Michael Bay Hollywood crap, if that's what you want to hear (John Hurt and Stephen Rea help). It looks like it's more along the lines of From Hell than it is....say...League of Extraordinary Gentleman.

Having watched the trailers, it just further proves there's no justice in this world with the scrapping of Watchmen and the continued production of this hackery. It'll be a decent flick to pick up on DVD and veg out to, but it'll be nowhere near as good as the book. But then, I've been proven wrong before, Sin City was 5,000x better than I thought it would be before walking in opening weekend. I fear that someone monstrous may pick up the Transmet License and then, somehow, someone worse will pick up Planetary. And we'll have an unholy trifect of comic book movies that will somehow kill off these last 3 years of decent comic->film revelation. Me, pessimistic? Nah.

I think it'll take a long string of disasters for that happen at this point. Not even the massive suckage that Superman WILL be will stop Warner from making (Nolan) Batman movies and/or adapting Vertigo stories. They'll probably learn from it.

Not even the massive suckage that X-Men 3 WILL be will stop Fox from making (Raimi) Spider-Man movies at least (as far as everything else goes, Marvel has pretty much blown it's load, I think).

Whoever has the rights to other publishers will probably remain good (as long as that Del Toro guy stays away from them). It's almost impossible to fuck up most of these stories anyways (at least, my optimistic self would like to think). And as far as non-Superhero titles go, no one except indie directors wants to do stories like Ghost World or American Splendor...And that's a good thing.

I thought it was a remake of the French movie/remade US movie about a girl who gets trained to be a killer after being arrested. Then it seemed to become a normal comicbook movie. There seems to be no daylight shots. Based on the trailer, I will pass.

The trailer looks like your typical superhero flick with a dark background.  The story of the corrupt, facist government looks to be only background filler for nifty costumes and fight scenes.  The story you described is not the story they are advertising.  -5/10

He stated it was one of the 50 best stories in any media, ever. He also stated that 90% of the story was two people talking at each other. He's also angry bob, and asked for a rating based on how he'd view it.. 

Given those criterion I think the trailer would make him claw his eyes out.  The movie itself would send him on a murderous rampage.  They've taken the story and 'hollywood-ed' it out the wazoo.  It's Spiderman with the British government as the Green Goblin and knife throwing in bullet time.  It's worse than Saving Private Ryan because Ryan was a made-up story fit around certain facts. (There was a missing 'last son' Ranger. He was found and sent home after D-Day.  There was, however, no resuce mission.)  V, however, is taking a pre-exsisting story and shredding it, then pick out the bits it wants to fit a Hollywood story.

If he wasn't such a closeminded dick about it, then these adaptations might have a better chance to live up to his standards (that is, if he even has any. It almost seems like he hates the film medium itself). The way he does it now is that he totally detaches himself from the process, then blames others when the films don't go his way. It's not like they wouldn't let him have some input if he asked.

I don't read or collect comics and I never had.  Strangely, I still play CoH and love movies based on comic books.  The Batman series, Superman, X-men, Hellboy, and lots of others.   I'm not sure if Darkman was based on a comic, but I loved it.  Some I disliked a lot, such as Catwoman.  I disliked it for the reasons I dislike any movie... cruddy dialog, bad acting, etc.   I wonder if I would have enjoyed any of them even a fraction as much if I cared about the comics that inspired them.  This movie looks like it might do well for the masses.  I think one's expectations go way up when it's regarding something that has personal meaning.  I would be much more critical watching a movie about something that is dear to me.

The lesson here is start reading comics.  I've forced many a non-comic reading woman to read Preacher and they usually end up liking it.

Preacher seems to interest women more than Transmet though.  I imagine it's mostly due to Tulip's character and her relationship with Jesse.  Preacher is one of the gateway drugs of comics (as Stray said).

Also comics like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac seem to appeal to many women as well.
