Am I the only one who gets the sickening feeling that something "biological" might be involved?

Quote
"People were panicking. But very fortunately the train was only 15 seconds from the station," witness Ivan McCracken told Sky News.

McCracken said he smelled smoke, and people were panicking and coming into his carriage. He said he spoke to an Italian man who was comforting a woman after the evacuation.

"He said that a man was carrying a rucksack and the rucksack suddenly exploded. It was a minor explosion but enough to blow open the rucksack," McCracken said. "The man then made an exclamation as if something had gone wrong. At that point everyone rushed from the carriage."

Interesting... sounds like a detonator failed to set off a larger device..... And I'm sure the man with the "rucksack" is at large.

From the sound of things there were 3 explosions, none of them very big and so far no reports of casualties. It could be something biological but it seems more like an attempt to cause disruption rather than another mass bombing. Buses and most of the Tube are still running, it's not being treated as something huge from what I'm seeing.

True, that was actually the first thought that came to my mind (before bio).  That they're just wanting to show Britons that they cannot relax.

I think we're probably just dealing with copycat attention seekers.  Hopefully the police will remove them from the populace with controlled explosions.

From what I heard on the radio the explosions this time weren't that big. I heard 1 person is dead but that's it so far. Not to say that it's not a big deal, but that this time at least it doesn't seem like it's as coordinated an issue. I hope that we don't find out that it is something more serious as time goes on.

Let me just be the first to say that if this thread turns into another "God hates Fags" dissertation like the last London bombing thread, I will personally ban the first motherfucker that starts it.

Also, prayers and thoughts go with the members of this board who may be near or have family near this. Nothing like waking up to go to work and putting on your "Keep your head down" attitude.

One person 'injured' according to the bbc, some speculation it may have been one of the non-bombers. No-one dead thankfully.

I am a little surprised so far. It appears that this one is very minor as far as damage done and people hurt. I am seriously starting to think it's just copycats or something.

I am though, very happy that it seems the bombs have done little damage.

I don't understand why an explosive would be needed to spread a bio agent, and in fact that would probably lessen the effectiveness quite a bit.  I'm not under the impression that this was anything other than conventional explosives.

Also, my sympathies to those affected.

Muitions that are designed to spread bio agents explode with a soft pop, it's one of the things you are told to look for on the battlefield.

If your not trying to disperse toxic things on a battlefield though you don't really need an explosive to spread it, depedning on the agent of course.  However, an explosive would help to get it into the atmosphere if you couldn't spread it by hand or could only disperse it at a certian point.

Anthrax for example could easily be spread by hand by someone who wasn't worried about the horrible, painful death to come shortly.  It is just a rather plain looking fine powder after all.

4 backpacks full of acetone peroxide, which could have been mixed up wrong, as none exploded, just the detonators. I guess a bunch of people have breathed in a lungful of raw explosive, or the fumes when given off when it burns, I know its toxic, but not how nasty. Still, the alternative would have been unthinkable.

A lucky escape for Londoners, and a good break for the authorties, they now have 4 perfectly preserved pre-crime scenes, unheard of im sure.

As for terror and panic they wanted, heh bollox to that, i was back on the tube the moment it opened, i needed to get back coz my new monitor was meant to be delivered.

I had to clean up and relabel a bottle of that stuff at a lab I used to work at.  Fun stuff, but I'm curious to see why this one was so poorly planned compared to the last ones.

Could have been a poor copy-cat attempt or it could have been a simple fuck up on the terrorist's part and someone mixed the stuff wrong. If that's the case the police have caught such a huge break here it's little short of a miracle.

If it was mixed up wrong, whoever was in charge is having a really bad day back at Terrorist HQ.

Sure, but constant (bi weekly) bombings and deaths and injuries in popular areas in Lebanon go completely un noticed.

Yeh, bundled to the floor, held down and 5 bullets put into him ? thats hardcore.

Possibly no bag either, rumour has it he was wearing a bomb belt. I hope they didnt get a wrong guy, as they might hesitate putting 5 bullets into a real suicide bomber.

Hey, if I was a cop tracking down a suicidal motherfucker who might have a bomb on his person or strapped to his waist, I'd damn sure not hesitate too much to put five in his dome.

Let's hope the suspect actually was carrying something like that and it wasn't just understandably jumpy cops.

Journalist Chris Martin said he was waiting on the northbound Northern line platform at Stockwell station and a train had pulled in when several men burst on to the platform about 20 yards from him.

Sounds to me like they got the right guy, and I do agree with Haemish.  You have no way of knowing if the guys about to "pull the pin" (or however you blow yourself up in 2005 -- I'm not terrible versed) and kill dozens of bystanders/passengers. So the only logical option in such a moment is "terminate with extreme prejudice" -- no hesitation.

Let's hope the suspect actually was carrying something like that and it wasn't just understandably jumpy cops.

Its seems it could be that the flat in stockwell he left from has been under observation from security forces, many of which follow and then try to stop and and arrest before he can get on the tube, they then chase him into the station as he vaults the ticket barriers, and down onto a train.  He's then pushed/tripped, and one of the chasers shoots him when he's down. One witness has the suspect grabbing a passenger too.

Interesting quote i saw was that Special Branch and SO19 (the Mets armed unit) are certainly not trained for this type of thing, and it could well have been special forces. The boys from Hereford, i bet.
