I actually don't see Carlin as cynical, just a realist.
Hmm....He actually wants to worsen the world, not just perpetuate it. Suicide TV, for instance.... And More death, more destruction! I fail to see how thinning the herd would worsen the situation in the world. I have a friend. He has six kids, he's 22. He has custody of none of them. His IQ (I'm guessing) is about 75. He's very dumb. I have no kids, I'm 35. My IQ is 150. See the problem with the modern USA? The smart people aren't breeding like the dumb people, shitty genetics are being spread like a pandemic (to use the modern cool scary word). I'm not worried about avian flu - I'm worried about huge multigenerational welfare families and the lack of huge well-bred families. I've said before that I'm somewhat classist, it's one of my "flaws". Things like lowering the bar in schools so more kids past, no child left behind style shit. But that's for the poilitics forum, a land I do not tread ;) Sorry. The difference is his observational humor is gone - all that's left are the rants. Exactly so.

Anyway I finally got a chance to see him perform before he dies. I won't bother again.
I saw him perform in Vegas a number of years ago. I wasn't impressed.

pandemic (to use the modern cool scary word)
I love this word. If I remember my etymology correctly, epi- means "global, world". So an epidemic would literally be a disease that crosses the world. Pan-, however, means "all of existence". Like pandemonium, or pantheism. So this is a disease that will DESTROY THE UNIVERSE. THE PANDEMIC WILL END ALL LIFE

I will agree with Carlin about two things: Malls suck and obesity is way out of hand.
Bill Maher (to use another comedian) is much more constructive and funny about the two though.

Don't get me started on the fucking pandemic (the word). People I KNOW didn't know what this word meant a month ago are using it all of the time now. And I have a strong suspiction they still don't know what it means.
One of these days one of them will slip up and say stupid stuff like "The Pandemic! I hurt my little toe this morning!"

To re-rail the conversation to the best show on television, the latest Arrested Development (after 3 weeks of fucking baseball), was absolutely brilliant. Narrator- "He had a choice to escape in either a miltary Humvee or the Popemobile. He chose the one that was bulletproof" (as George Senior jumps into the Popemobile). So many funny moments and gags. God this show.

The best part of that show is when someone cries and when the drag queen makes a catty comment about one of the girls. LOVE it!

The only thing good I can say about your taste in shows is that America's Next Top Model comes right before Veronica Mars. New episode tonight! You might like it, it has teenagers and drama, but it's well written and the kids (20-somethings cast as teens) can act! :-D It's suffering from a lot of UPN interference this season as a result of last year's poor ratings. Regular musical guests ala Buffy and some Boston Public like casting decisions have been a tad irksome.
Two episodes to with Rome. Looks like Pullo's going to go criminal (nice head bashing scene last week) and we're going to go out with the "et tu" moment.

Plowed through Lost just recently and I liked it, even though I do think it's a bit overrated. Rather funy that the guy who green lighted Lost got kicked because the show cost so much to produce, this was before it aired of course. One thing I dislike about lost is that it throws in more unanswered questions than it manages to answer, and some parts of it gets a bit silly. Still very enjoyable.
The best serie to hit television in a long time in my opinion is Battlestar Galactica, the remake that is. I've always had a soft spot for good sci-fi, and the writing is superb.

I think it's been accepted enough that Battlestar Galatica is The Shit that we no longer need to say it. It should be a given at all times and if there is anyone who happens to disagree they should be skinned alive and sent to a Barbie AOL chatroom.

This is the game Sci Fi plays. They will break up a traditional season (22 or so episodes) into 2 or 3 of their seasons. USA Networks does this as well. It's irritating.

It is kind of irritating which is why I end up ignoring that channel. I should buckle down and just record everything for a year, stick it on a DvD and take my time watching it. They actually have some series I think I would enjoy. Their films, however, are horrible, horrible, horrible!

Someone fill me in on Rome here. As far as I know, I only missed one episode - the one after Ceasar and Cleopatra resent thier Child - yet nothing seems to have come back to that. I can't see them having been able to wrap up the whole Marc Anthony love triangle/Cleopatra suicide in one episode...
If that hasn't happened yet, then we can't exactly be coming up to et tu? yet.
Oh, and on Arrested Development. I have managed to never have actually seen the show, until last week. I watched one episode. Something tells me that Titus is going to be bumped down on my zip list in favor of AD.
I could barely make sense of what was going on, but Super Dave Osborne as a web cam surrogate body and Charlise Theron as a hot retard - It's gold.

Are you trying to say that you did not enjoy The Man With The Screaming Brain? I enjoy the promos for the horrible movies, actually. They are hilarious, and get funnier the more you watch since you start MSTK3K'ing them. Well, my wife and I do.

Cleopatra hasn't made an appearance since the Egypt episode. All they did was hold up the well endowed baby (Pullo's) at the end of the episode while the troops cheared and Vorenus and Pullo gave each other worried glances. No mention of the baby or Cleopatra since then. Caesar went on to finish off Scipio and Cato and then it was back to Rome. It just seems they're ramping up the Brutus angst pretty quickly from here on out. I'm completely ignorant of how Cleopatra works into this whole timeline before Caesar's death. They've just got two episodes left before the end of the season. I figured they'd probably want to end it with a huge event. Doesn't get much bigger than a bunch of toga'd men stabbing an epileptic old man. Maybe they'll save it for next season. Being rather forgetful of Roman history has made this series all that more enjoyable. My classics professor would probably beat me to death with his cane for typing what I just did. For shame.

Blah, I thought Battlestar Galactica sucked. Took it off my 'record all new episodes' list. SG-1 is holding in there somehow, and Atlantis is pretty cool. I think BSG is trying to hard to be cool or edgy or something, just seems real contrived.

Mindboggling. I do agree somewhat: SG-Atlantis is the best current version of ST:TNG, followed by SG-1.

Some potential Rome spoilers, aka actual history. Not too bad, but.... :
Alright, as of last episode we had Octavian as a very, very young Pontiff (Roman priest/elected official; usual stepping stone to more advanced Roman political office in the Republic and early Empire periods). Caesar commented himself that he had basically got his political start that way.
Before Ceasar gets shivved, Octavian needs to be a few years older. He will have been recognized by Gaius Julius as his heir. And I think he was Consul. The other Consul at the time was Antony.
You needed to have been a former Consul before you could be governor of a province, so that's why I seem to think Octavian was a Consul (being groomed to take over as governor of an important province).
Ceasar is dictator for a fair number of years before he gets offed.
As for timeline, we've already jumped a few years between the 3-4 episode Egypt arc. Lucius Vorenus' "son" has gone from a baby to a young boy.
I'd hazard the guess that we're NOT going to close out the season with Ceasar's death. Instead, go on hiatus for a year/year and a half and let the actors age (Octavian & Vorenus' daughters). That way, can start out next season with Ceasar dead and lead into the Senate vs. Octavian/Antony/(blanking on the third member of the triumverate), then Antony (who goes native in the Orient) vs. Octavian (campaigns as the solid Roman).
The years after the Antony/Octavian finale are interesting. Lots of long-lost sons of famous rebels keep showing up to duke it out with Octavian. I think we have sons of Cato, Pompeii, etc. making appearances.
As well, I LOVED the advice that Octavian gave Ceasar on how to proceed as ruler. Since that's exactly what he did when he took over Rome. Octavian did a much, much better job of clothing his power in the apparatus of the Republic, though.

More historical spoilery stuff ahead. Ah ok, now I see where I am wrong. I had thought that Caesar was still around when the whole Antony/Cleopatra thing happens, but apparently not. In fact, according to the time line I'm reading, Caesar's assasination happens in 44 BC, the same year he returns to Rome from Egypt. So you may in fact be correct, and the season will end on March 15th. According to this timeline: http://ancienthistory.about.com/library/bl/bl_time_cleo.htm Cleo actually outlives Caeser by 14 years, and its Octavion that leads to her and Antony's downfall.

I believe it's Pompey's son, but I forget his name as well. It's not. Pompei Magnus, Julius Caesar, and a 3rd were the original Triumverate. The third in the Octavian/Antony Triumverate was a Scypo or something like that. A real bad ass general, who just didn't care enough for supreme political power. I think his family and Octavian's intermarried quite a bit. This is all from memory, so may be a little inaccurate.

Ceasar is boss for a while before he gets killed. Part of the problem is he's seen as going to Eastern (and fucking around with Cleo) while he still has a Roman wife and runs the empire. Antony & Octavian settle the killers, then Antony goes to Egypt with Cleopatra. Antony fucks up, gives Octavian too much time to prepare. Goes native, and basically alienates Rome.

Since Rome is not going to start showing the 2nd season until 200-fucking-7, I imagine the first season probably could end with the death of Caesar and the second season start up Octavian and Antony's brouhaha. But I haven't watched the last two episodes yet, so I don't know.

They have redone SG-1, replacing MacGuyver with Beau Bridges. I think when you cast Beau Bridges you are basically saying "I give up." They also put in a bondage MILF type. I don't watch the show because I have no idea what the hell is going on. Seems like half the promos have Tee-Loc lifting a rock while groaning like he's trying to drop a log sideways. Nooooooo thanks. Atlantis was good the first season. Small team, overwhelming odds, stranded... now they have the ability to return to Earth, so bleh. Also they have added a dreadlocked toughass badboy in a duster, and The Shocker is a regular. Gotta love Pillegi ... Pileggi ... The Shocker. Much more Next-Generationy, like SG-1. It's a nice appetizer before BSG.

Yeah, I thought it was better when the Atlantis team was stranded, too. I like the dreadlock badass, though, he adds a dimension they needed.
SG-1...well, it's in an interesting phase. Beau just sucks, John Crichton is passing at best. Claudia Black was pretty good, too bad they didn't keep her around. Having an interstellar vagabond on the team was a nice twist. They've really pushed it with all the interstellar race stuff, it was nicer when it was mostly Goauld (or whatever) slave planets, but I guess you can only push that so far.
