I picked up the first season of House M.D. recently. Great show. I've never really payed attention to actor names, so I don't know who plays House, but whoever he is deserves an award. He's fucking awesome.

Hugh Laurie, He's been in a lot of stuff, but most know him as the dad from "Stuart Little" or the tall idiot from Blackadder III & IV.

Rescue Me was a good season finale. There's just enough that changed to make you want to come back and see what else happens with these fascinating characters.

There's really a new genre of shows out now, the male soap opera. The Shield, Rescue Me, Deadwood, Rome... if there wasn't so much violence, cursing or sex, they'd be chick shows. Only they keep all the good elements of soap operas, the very Greek tragedy type elements, and add in plenty of testosterone pleasing moments that make you feel masculine about watching gut-wrenching human drama.

I watched the Bones premiere (comes on before House on Fox, 7 pm CST Tuesdays) and I liked it. The story was ok, with only a few moments of implausibility, but the real winner for this show is the chemistry between the leads. David Boreanez and the chick just work well together. Prison Break... I couldn't make it through one episode. I was just /meh, despite the fact that I dig Dominic Purcel from his turn as John Doe.

Just watched a couple episodes from the Firefly boxed set I bought last year.  Yah, I watched the entire thing last year, was just checking the replay factor.  Like most things Whedon, meh.....  You enjoy it the first time,  just not alot of payoff to watching again.

Home Movies is cool. I love Dr. Katz. My friend has digital cable (I don't anymore) and they had an old episode of Dr. Katz on, it was hilarious as always. I don't think Dr. Katz is on DVD though.

Home Movies is awesome!

You may need to watch a couple of episodes to get into it, but it really is very funny.

Just rent one or two of the discs from Netflix.

Of course, there's plenty of other TV shows on DVD that are good: Wonderfalls, Band of Brothers (basically all of the HBO series'), any of the Adult Swim shows (Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Sealab 2021, etc), plus all the shows throughout this and other tv show threads. Most of them have at least one season out on disc now.

If you don't want to rent any I'd recommend at least downloading a torrent or two to check them out.

A good block of TV is Sunday night on fox.  You have the Simpsons(meh), The War at Home(DAMN FUNNY), Family Guy, and American Dad.  It does get in the way of football though :(.

The season premiere of Arrested Development was fucking hysterical. I think they had more double entendres in one episode than any other comedy does in a season.

I've always liked Arrested Development, but since I'm usually on the computer while watching TV it makes it hard to appreciate- it's very fast paced and hard to find teh funneh if you're not focused on it.

I've seen most of the Adult Swim Sunday block.  Loved Sealab until they lost Murphy.  Really took the heart and soul out of the show.  I've always thought Birdman was a bit variable in quality,  and I generally dislike the new batch of shows(Tom goes to the Mayor, Stroker and Hoop, etc.)

I used to watch Home Movies every Sunday.  Great show.  Not laugh out loud funny for me,  but more generally amusing and entertaining, even to watch again.  It peaked with the Renaissance Fair episode for me,  before veering off into unfunny land.

I've also caught most of the HBO series.  Never been a big fan of the comedies though. 

Kind of having a tough time getting into Rome.  In HBO style,  their going overboard with the violence/sex thing to generate buzz and get people hooked into the drama. Think Deadwood and the obessive overuse of cocksucker/cunt/all the other "very bad" profanities season one, while season two moved towards high drama and political maneuvering.

I'd prefer to move directly to the drama,  and skip another scene of some character drawing a crude phallus or seeing the slutty aristocrat sleep with another guy.  Seriously.  I have the pay channels, and  if I wanted to watch soft core porn, I'd watch soft core porn.

As a good tip,  if you don't believe in torrent and don't want to pay $100 for a boxed set:  The History Channel seems to have a recurring slot for (mostly unedited) Band of Brothers.  I watched the series last fall,  and it was airing again this summer.  Very solid series.

I've heard Good Things (TM) about Wonderfalls,  and have been meaning to pick up the DVD set.

HDNet's World Report is a great show. Lately they've been focusing on New Orleans, three weeks of shows in a row, with footage you won't see anywhere else on tv. Great stuff...but very depressing. First week was mostly the superdome people, second week was the search for bodies...err...survivors (by the fuggin' DEA, no less!), this week was the devastation as people trickle back and find their home in the neighbor's yard, another house in their yard. French Quarter looks great, though. But the overall chaos reminds me how close we are to anarchy every day, I experienced the Rodney King riots in LA and they were just a sampling of what people can sink to so easily.

I usually watch House, but since the playoffs are on I watched Earl last night.  That show is hilarious, and I hope it does well so I can catch reruns later this year.  It's not over the top and it's not as subtle as Arrested Development, which is also damned funny.   I couldn't stomach a whole episode of "the Office" however.  It's trying too hard to be Office Space and the British sitcom it's based off of at the same time, IMO.

My Name is Earl is fucking funny as hell. Meanwhile, I also love the American version of The Office, as I think it's just perfect. I never watched much of the British version myself, so maybe that's why I like it. That and I think Carrell is hilarious.

Also, if you liked the Office in Britain, check out Extras, the new show by the Office creator, Rick Gervais. The first episode was just a scream.

Veronica Mars - had a couple problems with the first episode this season, but that mostly stems from it being written to bring in more viewers. Still, great writing, clever humor, and good acting. 

Rome: It's Rome! It's got a lot of war, boobs, and Roman type things.  Good show.  Moves a tad slow at times.

Gilmore Girls: well written, well acted. YES I WATCH GILMORE GIRLS.

Lost: First episode this season: yay, back to plot progression.  Second episode: ended where first ended. GRRRRRRRRRRR. 

Family Guy: still funny!

Battlestar Galactica: watch the first season DVD.  TIVO'ing the second season as I watch.  Umm, wow. This show is REALLY FUCKING GOOD.  Best scifi ever? So far I'd say yes.

I thought Earl was completely vapid, a terribly executed ripoff of Raising Arizona. British version of the Office is way better, but American version is aight. Carrell does a fine job of playing a completely inappropriate douchebag. That Kitchen Confidential show is pretty good, but I just think that kid from Freaks and Geeks is adorable, and I'm glad he's working. But despite my generic enjoyment of models, Jaime King's is a face I just wanna fuck up. More than it already is. And I'm glad that Anthony Bourdain's moneyhat is getting bigger.

My problem with Kitchen Confidential is that is moves too fast. The show deserves an hour a week. But then, I worked in restaurants for a number of years and know there's plenty more stories you can do besides what came out of Bourdain's life. Other than that complaint, I enjoy it very much.
