Not much in the way of new info, but there are a couple screenshots plus some really cool images of signature villains on each page.

The names are:

News- Ghost Widow
The Game- Lord Recluse
Media- Black Scorpion
Beta Test- Captain Mako
FAQ- Sirocco

I really wish people wouldn't keep making lame flash websites in order to prevent readers getting at information quickly.

So CoV will be a stand alone title that interacts with CoH in terms of storyline, content, and PvP?

Innovative, and intriguing.

Agree with the flash thing - it is only there to spread out 5 minutes info into ... well, 10.

My favourite bit of news was:

Also, if players want to build a base for their Hero characters and take part in PVP adventures (outside of the Arenas) they'll need to get City of Villains.

I liked the movie that was playing: Attack of the Kill Skuls

I gotta give Cryptic huge props for their sence of humour. They always manage to come up with something that makes me fall out of the chair. The last great ROFL was when they froze over the lakes and such after the Winter Lord event and we all went ice skating with the mobs out in Perez. It was fun getting the CoT out on the ice and then sending them flying an energy torrent.

I was drinking when I wrote this, so sue me if it goes astray.

As prerendered CG game movies go it was okay. The poor lip-syncing was annoying and the foley sounds were too muted -- definitely took away from the "visceral" impact of the whole thing. The Onimusha 3 intro movie is still the standard by which I judge other CG game movies, though the Dawn of War one is pretty good as well.

If they let you build and use PVP characters ala Guild Wars, I would buy a box and resub and pay 15 a month for it.

To that end, base-building will let you elevate and lower terrain within your base, spray-paint the walls with different textures, and add a huge variety of items, including decorative furniture and items of actual use, such as your own player hospitals, teleporters, and even static defenses. You'll need these defenses to fend off raids from rival supergroups, who will have good reason to attack your demesnes beyond bragging rights (the new game will also add beneficial "power crystal" items that can be acquired from supergroup-only quests--crystals that can be seized in raids).

I had the most fun I've had in any game the first 13 or so levels.

Then it got boring.

Since it was first announced, I've wanted to play CoV.

But game companies really need to stop making videos with CG that make the game look 50x more fun than it really is, it's depressing.

More on bases: http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/city-of-villians/617483p1.html

Quote
Bases will be a critical part of City of Villains. Constructing them is as easy and pointing and clicking at the various types of lairs from sewers and caves to secret labs. You can build elaborate mazes or just a small lair. The bases serve a purpose, though. You'll be able to use teleporters and healers while at your base, but the main reason to have one is to store items of power; these extremely powerful items will attract the attention of other supergroups, who can raid the base in search of the item. A base can only be raided once per day, and during a set time, which is set by the leader of the supervillain group

This is ominous:

The only potential snafu is the price model. Nothing is set in stone, but if you own City of Heroes you won't get to play City of Villains for free. There will most likely be an additional monthly fee.

The rumor I've seen from other sites is that they are considering CoV a totally seperate game that just happens to abut with CoH and that they are considering pricing as such.  I.e. two full subscriptions if you want to play both.

Yeah, they got to stop that shit. That is prime Douchebag territory.

I'm all for releasing each game as a standalone type of thing. But if the two comingle ANYWHERE, if anyone in the CoH world can interact with anyone in the CoV world, fuck that two subscriptions bullshit. I'll not subscribe that, AT ALL.

the following is paraphrased and should not taken as 100% fact

Wednesday Jeremy Gaffney said on his interview for MMO radio that charging an extra $15 a month for CoH players to also play CoV is problematic. If you play both CoH and CoV you arnt using up any extra bandwidth because you can only log into one game at a time. The full $15 a month for each game would be nice because thats money that can be used for development. He also said that he felt many people would stop paying for CoH while they played CoV, basicly juggling $15 a month back on forth between the 2 games thus negating the extra money that would be nice for them to have for development.

A paraphrase of a radio interview from the CoV forum on the CoH board, so take it for what it's worth.

I don't get it. It seems like the games would be mirror images of each other- one you get to play the bad guy, one the good guy. Unless you can play PC villains v PC heroes, it makes no sense.

I've never seen any suggestion that you'd have to pay two subscriptions anywhere.

The devs have said variously that they want to make sure the CoV pack runs standalone, so they can push it as a sequel. The rest is vault idiots making stuff up.

I've heard that they're talking about having some sort of special rate if you have both CoH and CoV active at the same time. If they made me pay the full subscription for both, then I would probably just pick or the other.

Hm.

I know Statesman has said previously that, ideally, CoH and CoV will be standalone games and that if you're already paying the fee for one you wouldn't have to pay the fee for the other.  However, he followed that by saying that the decision is not in his hands.  So I'd say NCSoft needs a smack upside the head for considering this.

NCSoft has to realize the truth:

1) CoV has a very good chance of bringing people back to CoH because it freshens CoH.
2) CoV will be viewed as an expansion no matter what NCSoft and Cryptic say.
3) Players have no problem paying for a new retail box as part of an expansion but not more monthly fees.
4) Why would anyone who quit CoH renew both to try CoV? They wouldn't.

Maybe NCSoft will take this opportunity to raise CoH to $19.95 using CoV as the catalyst. That would be ok, but risky. NCSoft should view CoV as content that helps the players stick around CoH longer than they otherwise might.

Next question: what is the retail price of CoV going to be? NCSoft could probably get away with $49.99 if there is no extra sub fee.

I have never played WoW.

It's a lot of fun but in sporatic doses.  I go hot and cold on it pretty often.  I was hot last week and I'm sliding into lukewarm now, but I always come back eventually.  Now and then I shout at Eldeac on Batnet to amuse myself, but he pays no mind to me at all.  The arena seems rather sucky and is mostly empty when I'm on, too.  I still wait with baited (not fishy) breath for CoV.  Let's hope it's not crap.

Eventually you'll just get tired of it and quit for good.  At least that's what I did, even though I was in a really good, active supergroup with fun people.  It's a fun game because of the combat, but it just takes too long to level a new character, and the missions start to look the same after a few hundred of them.  There is not enough new in it to keep my interest any longer.  Maybe CoV will have enough new shiny per hour to keep my interest.  We'll see.
