The World's Worst Game: Curry or Covid

on: May 02, 2005, 09:53:24 AM

I just thought it might make things easier to plan if we have a thread containing what kinda toons everyone is using, and what their common play times are.

Main: Me/W - Going for Illusionary Weapon eventually.

Alt: Mo/E - I'll get this alt up in levels...eventually.

For the next week my play times are going to be somewhat sporatic (I have finals this week), but mostly at night.

After this week, I will mostly be Catassing2Victory...until ~May 22.

Then I will be overseas until the second week of July.

When I return to the US on or around July 10th, it's back to catassing until the start of my Fall semester.

You better not all quit while I am away.  evil

My current builds are:

Main: Ranger/Elementalist. Currently mostly a ranger with a taste of fire since I have yet to unlock decent air spells.
Primary Alt: Elementalist/Mesmer. Fire good! Ahem.
Secondary Alt: Indecisiveness strikes.
PVP Alt: Currently fire/lockdown E/Me, but I'm not feeling the love in the Hall. Getting benched.

I tend to play late-evenings Pacific time, usually starting up around 8 PM PDT and shutting down around 11 PM PDT. I'll be offline all next week.

The great thing about quitting this game is it requires no money to restart!  evil

Right now, my main is Haemish MacLennan, Warrior/Ranger. My PVP alt has been either Crotchpheasant, Warrior/Monk type or Moist Boy, Ele/Necro when Schild yells at me for running in and dying with my melee character.

Play times are usually after 8 pm CST, and no later than 11 pm CST.

Main: Bael Bloodlily, W/N.  Was going ax/blood, now considering ax/curse for Mark of Pain.

PvP: Bael Teabagger ?/? I'm still fiddling with this guy, to test out a few possible builds.

Play time: I got off work M-F at 8 PST, so pretty much from then onwards.

Character 1: W/E
Character 2: Mo/N
Character 3: R/Me

Just getting done with finals, my playtimes will be very sporadic the next week or so.

My toons:

Sir Guido 7 Warrior Monk
Jayne Zar 3 Necromancer ?

Playtimes: Usually Mon,Tues, and Thurs 8pm-4am EST thereabouts.  (Not all at once obviously.  I take breaks for Daily Show, lunch, errands, or just whatever else I want to do. )  Any other day is usually too sporadic or short for me to team up.

I don't have a PVP build yet though.

Main is Sugarpie Honeybunch, E/Me 11

PVP: I've played Loose Lucyy Mo/?? whatever divine healer is, and want to try a Pyro

I keep deleting my pvp toons.  I like to make them look different.  Good thing the customization isn't like City of Heroes, or I'd never actually get past character creation to pvp.

Backup: mo/me. Focusing on primary healing.

Main: Twinkle Muffin, Ele/Mes 9, no awesome Air or Water skills yet but want to eventually do a lightning-ice build.  For now, it's Aura of Restoration+Conjure Phantasm+Flare.

Alt: Hank Scorpio, Mesmer/?, not sure about this guy.

Two other Warrior alts, the War/Mes might be a keeper.

Not enough skills unlocked for me to feel good about PvP.

Spectacular Andy:  N/R L9, I absolutely love the Necro part of this build (heavy death, big minions in pve, big corpse explode in pvp), but I hate the R part, made an alt to figure out if there will be anything worth having from the Ranger part.

Extraordinary Andy: R/E L3, See above.  Eventually planning on it being big single target damage.

Phenomenal Andy: E/Mo L5.  My take on a big damage build, with the added bonus of a rez in pvp.

There's another one in here that gets deleted and remade constantly.

I was considering an N/R zookeeper, focusing on necro pets and curses and pumping the Ranger Beast Mastery for a heavy, permanent pet.  Any thoughts?

It would be interesting, but (at least in PvP) if there are no corpses on the ground, those Necro pet spells are dead slots.

EDIT: Add onto that the fact that you have to keep the Ranger pet spell in your bar to have the pet with you. It does nothing else but take up a slot, which is a killer at times.

Yeah, I've seen that on my Mo/R.  But with the Monk I'm not investing as much in Beast Mastery.  The theory is that the pet would become worth a slot with a pumped up Beast Mastery, as it increases the pet's damage and chance to crit.  And once you (or anyone) scores a kill, up come the necro pets and things get evil.  But I haven't played a necro in PvP and I'm not sure how the corpse-->pet process works there.

Can you raise pets out of allies?   Do corpses stick around, or do they go away when the character auto-rezzes?

You can raise pets out of allies.

I actually didn't use my pets in the random pvp I did.  Corpse explode was too good -- insta cast 70 damage AoE at the corpse.  You can cast 2-3-5 in a row if corpses are avaliable.

I ended up losing because the other Necro decided to raise skeletons.

To clarify - the the "other necro" on your team or an opponent?  I'm not sure if you're saying that the pets were good in pvp or not.

Depending on the spell used, the Pets are alright. I tend to ignore them, but I reckon they do decent damage in groups.

Unfortunately, they degen over time.

The ranger pet is ok, but the Necro Bone Horror thing is /meh. Except in big battles, it's usually too late to do anything other than overkill the losing team, unless they manage to pull a Haemish and get themselves killed completely separately from their group.  cry

The Ranger gets some decent ranged stuff with marksmanship. I dig the "Ignite Arrows" buff that adds area damage to all bow shots, as well as getting some stuff that interrupts casting, which includes healers.

Dren Jootz, Elem (Fire)/ Monk (Smite/Heal) - lvl 6 (Only one night of play)
The idea is to be nuker mainly, but have extra attacks that do not take mana and a bit of minor healing for solo activity.  It seems to work very well for me so far.

I play weekdays 8:30 - 10:30 CST off and on. (After 9:30 I'm pretty consistent - kids in bed.)
Weekends are too chaotic to plan, but I try to get 5-6 hours total or I'm very grumpy come Monday.

I'm in.  Most evenings 7p-10p eastern time.

Tige Sen - level 2 warrior.
Kota Sen - level 2 ranger.

I have nfc about secondary jobs for either profession right now.  Warrior will most likely be main due to some of the great looking armor and the difficulty of trying to make a ranger not look like a cabin boy.

Antolin Vakalas- Ranger/Warrior

I know fuck-all about the game so far, but I have pumped most of my skill points into Marksmanship so far. Can I get by sans pet? Pets are a PITA AFAIK.

I didn't play a ranger for long but it seemed to me that you don't have to do anything particularly complicated with pets.  They just attack what you attack.  So, besides healing them from time to time, they just sort of hang around... like Gwen, without the annoying perkiness.

Ya know, the problem with ranger:

They're not quite a good druid.
They're not quite a good rogue.
They're not quite a good scout.

They're trying to do one too many things and just coming out as a weak beastmaster/archer.

I took all my pet stuff off my toolbar and I haven't missed it yet. Unless you're willing to put a bunch of points into Beastcraft (or whatever it's called) I'm of the opinion that the pet doesn't add that much damage.

Got a 10 War/Mo and a 4 E/Ne in the works.

The W/mo is nice b/c it has high survivability in pve at least; plenty of times I've been the sole survivor when the 3 henchmen buy it due to pb aoe's and self heals.  Pvp is more meh.  I need to go get some sprint skills and more knockdowns & stuns b/c the biggest factor in pvp for warrior is elusiveness of prey.  For some odd reasons players don't stand like statues and let you beat on them the way mobs do...

Who knows, the w/mo may turn about to a loot farmer :-p  Finger Wigglers FTW!

I don't know how many times I've told you, but I'll say it again.

Rangers are pimp with a good build.

They are not druids.
They are not rogues (unfortunately).
They are damn good scouts in the hands of a competant player who knows how they work.
