Trailers like that really do give me faith Marvel can make hit movies in a post-avengers world. Fucking lol. I will be there.

Apparently, yeah. Wouldn't be too surprised if there were a post-credits scene that catches the characters up.

There are a bunch of articles that say that the events of this film take place prior to Infinity War... mostly. However, I have yet to see one cite a source. Given that everyone from the first film appears in the preview, you have to assume the majority of the movie takes place before Infinity War.
I assume we'll see a reference to the action in New York at some point in the movie, and then they'll have the big tie in at the end of this movie... and my wild guess is that we'll see Renner show up in the post credit tag to pull whoever survives into an effort to avenge in Avengers 4.

The beauty of the way they ended Infinity War is that you could do the entire tie-in in the post-credit tag. *Poof*, phone rings, it's Hawkeye, grim look of determination, fin.

I mean, before Avengers, all of the Marvel movies ended the same way.

Saw this last night. It was very good and way better than the first one. A lot of laugh out loud moments and mostly well-paced plotting. The bits where they are talking science caused me physical pain however.

Also saw it. Very enjoyable. Not earthshatteringly innovative or anything, but fun action and you can see where it fits into the larger story.

The family enjoyed this.
I really think of the shrinking more as magic than as actual tech though. Particularly with the inconsistent way they managed how shrinking deals with mass. It mostly seems a convenience thing, except for when played for a gag.
If a person needs their full weight when shrunk during a fight, no problem. If someone needs to carry a tank or a box of cars or a building, no problem. Or an object that is increased with size actually gains mass. Sometimes. Again, when it's convenient.
It's not enough to throw me out of the movie, but it's fun to nitpick afterwards.

I had the same issue, particularly because I remembered the first movie taking a bit of care to explain that mass/strength was conserved when shrinking, which makes Ant-Man basically a bullet. I remember in one of the scenes in the first movie he shrinks and chips the tile floor because suddenly his entire mass is hitting a point the size of a chisel tip. Makes sense! It all went completely out the window when he turned giant in Civil War, though, because if it worked the same way in that situation he'd have floated away and/or been incredibly vulnerable to damage rather than being able to Godzilla it up. So my assumption is that they modified the tech so that they can control whether or not mass is conserved and/or that it's just magic now so whatever.

Wasn't Hank Pym carrying a tank or something on a keychain in the first one, that he then expanded when it was convenient? That doesn't work unless Pym is super strong or the tank would have seemed like it was made of cardboard.

Well, I guess they finally introduced a scientific inaccuracy into the MCU. A shame to have ruined it now after being so precise on the sciene of rage monsters, frozen super-soldiers, space ships, bouncing vibration absorbing shieds, Gods, reality reshaping, synthezoids, etc...

It's not about inaccuracy -- it's about inconsistency. Not that same.

Yes, that was one of the big inconsistencies that stood out in the original ant man. Well, that and the giant ant. Plus the Thomas the Tank Engine. Probably a few more that I am forgetting. Again, not enough to throw me out of the movie, but something to snark about later.

It's cartoon physics, it works in whatever way is funniest for the situation. It's quantumly obvious that the quantum entanglement reads the quantum fluctuations from the future and does whatever quantum makes the quantum audience quantum laugh.
Quantum idiots.

Fun movie, simple enough. Marvel definitely understands that the tonality of these things has got to spread out if they have any hope of making folks want to see 1-2 of these a year, every year.

I love this movie Its good to see a movie hit home on being funny in a very organic way. Also while I am sad that this movie makes no scientific sense it doesn't break the movie either.

I went along and saw this as a group thing.
Its a perfectly by the number mediocre movie. Some genuinely funny bit, some really afwul jokes. Sadly the funniest bits are the earnest discussions of the absurd science.
I was under the impression it wasn't going to take itself.this seriously?

I head cannon it as the Pym Particle is *way* more powerful than what he admits (and I think he knows it). It doesn't "just" shrink or expand you, it changes the very fundamental structure of reality to make it work as it does so. It's inconsistent because every situation is different. Sometimes mass/inertia is conserved, sometimes not, depending on whatever the hell shapes the effect at the moment. I'm a bit sorry they didn't make it one of the Infinity Stones, but I suppose every super powerful element of the cosmos doesn't have to fit on Thanos' glove... But still, fun quantum movie.

Also I was going to hold off on bringing that up... but yeah. Going to unspoiler to talk about just what a low-rent "superhero" Ant Man is, and that is really a big part of his charm -- this movie had no real supervillains, unless you want to count Dr. Pym himself, a megalomaniacal paranoid who is perfectly capable of letting the world burn around him while he obsessively focuses on his latest research. The movie was honestly more like I wish Agents of SHIELD had been. Low stakes are fine stakes, as far as I'm concerned. The world doesn't have to be threatened in every damn storyline, dammit. Also, quantum! Edited to make some damn sense.
