I AM GOING TO WRESTLE THIS BEAR WITH MY BARE HANDS!

on: July 06, 2016, 11:35:15 PM

Hey all! Next on my spam list of forgettable radicalthons is Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition. Was thinking of playing this through when I thought the party creation process would be much better if I did it like the Dwarf Fortress plays: using F13 members no reload style.

For those who don't know, Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition is an old advanced dungeons and dragons based game that Beamdog revamped and brought into the modern age. I've only ever played through it once a long time ago, but have played the Baldurs Gates multiple times and so am very versed in the ruleset. For those who are not, fear not! Post your character idea here and I can make it work within the ruleset. To make it easier for people, the classes are as such:

Races:
Human (No bonuses, but can be all classes, only race able to dual-class)
Elf (+Dex, -Con, +90% sleep and charm resistance)
Half-Elf (+30% sleep and charm resistance)
Gnome (+Int, -Wis, Bonus to saving throws based on Con)
Halfling (+Dex, -Str, Bonus to saving throws based on Con)
Dwarf (+Con, -Dex, -Cha, Bonus to saving throws based on Con)
Half-Orc (+Str, +Con, -Int)

Fighter (All races)
-Specializations: Wizard Slayer, Berserker, Kensai

Paladin (Human only)
-Specializations: Cavalier, Undead Slayer, Inquisitor

Ranger (Human, Elf, or Half-Elf)
-Specializations: Archer, Beastmaster, Stalker

Cleric (All races)
-Specializations (Specific Gods): Lathander, Helm, Talos, Tyr, Tempus

Druid (Human and Half-Elf only)
-Specializations: Totemic Druid, Shapeshifter, Avenger

Bard (Human and Half-Elf only)
-Specializations: Skald, Jester, Blade

Thief (All races)
-Specializations: Bounty Hunter, Assassin, Swashbuckler, Shadow Dancer

Mage(Varies, see below)
-Specializations:
Abjurer        Human
Conjurer        Half-Elf, Human
Diviner        Elf, Half-Elf, Human
Enchanter        Elf, Half-Elf, Human
Illusionist        Gnome, Human
Invoker        Human
Necromancer    Human
Transmuter    Half-Elf, Human

Sorcerer (Humans, Elves and Half-Elves only)
Specializations: Dragon Disciple

Wild Mage (Humans, Elves and Half-Elves only)

Monk (Human only)
Specializations: Dark Moon, Sun Soul

Multiclass combinations (Non-human, racial limits from above apply, cannot specialize (Gnomes however will always be Illusionists))

Fighter/Cleric
Fighter/Druid
Fighter/Mage
Fighter/Mage/Cleric
Fighter/Mage/Thief
Fighter/Thief
Mage/Cleric
Mage/Thief
Thief/Cleric
Cleric/Ranger

Humans can dual-class from one class (including specializations) into another, stopping their first class from gaining experience. Dual classing limits are the same as multi-classing.

This is not a min/max playthrough, I will use any and all suggestions. Of course though I will prioritize at least one thief and two healers (cleric or druid) and if one of those dies another will get top priority due to their necessity in this game (they can be dual/multiclasses). All new party members will start at level 1 regardless of where I am in the game. I'll also probably never start this due to work, so don't expect this to be a very fast radicalthon. I very much encourage everyone who reads this to suggest a character to play irrespective of game knowledge, even if it's just a race and class and I'll fill out the rest, as this radicalthon will only start once I have at least 10 characters in stock.

I'll edit this post as needed, please ask questions and I'll be more then happy to answer about the process.

A male Human Jester enters the tavern, ready to annoy everyone with his useless-ness!  Loud groans abound among the patrons.

Ooo forgot to mention people need to also say which alignment they want their character to be:

Code:
Lawful Good     Neutral Good  Chaotic Good
Lawful Neutral  True Neutral  Chaotic Neutral
Lawful Evil     Neutral Evil  Chaotic Evil

I'll start this... eventually  why so serious?.

Heh, missed the original thread.  If there is some sort of alternates list to replace dead members or something:

Elf Kensai, Neutral Neutral.

Most stereotypically over the top elfishly elf build i could think of.   awesome, for real

I'm thinking neutral good for my halfling cleric.  I forget how alignment works with clerics in this game, outside of limiting which gods they can follow.

Almost thinking of turning this instead into a youtube series due to the action orientated nature of the gameplay, however I'll ask people here what they'd prefer: Picture and Text forum posts or Narrated Youtube? Depends on how people prefer to view it. Would also be fun to sometimes have different f13'ers as guests to talk about their experiences with not only d&d but f13 in general, especially if their character is currently in the party. Gameplay will be to see how far I can get before we run out of party members! All new members begin the game at lv1. I can resurrect, but from memory that takes a long time to achieve it regularly (and out of 12 applicants we have ONE cleric...) and that's also not including auto-permanent deaths a.k.a "chunking" or disintegration.  I haven't played Icewind Dale in probably 10 years and I'll be going in blind, so it should be a very, very short playthrough (heh).

Looks like the original lineup will be:

satael, Human Male Lawful Good Inquisitor
Kail, Halfling Male Neutral Good Cleric
ezrast, Half-Orc Lawful Good Wizard Slayer
Merusk, Half-Elf True Neutral Druid
Rendakor, Dwarven Male Chaotic Evil Assassin
Strazos, Human Male Chaotic Neutral Wild Mage

Backups drunks back at the tavern (will replace the same position in the party):

Paelos, Human Male Lawful Good Cavalier
Bungee, Dwarf Male Berserker
Teleku, Elf Male True Neutral Kensai
Lucas, Human Male Lawful Evil Jester
Mandella, Halfling Male Chaotic Good Thief
Samwise, Human Male True Neutral Invoker

My first instinct is to suggest whichever option is an easier lift/quicker for you. The youtube narration option is sort of intriguing, but I don't know how well it would be received - it might just end up being kind of boring, I don't know.

My guess would be that the YouTube version would take a lot more effort especially if it's narrated and not just a let's play.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. It's a lot harder to get the pacing right with a video, but if that's your bag go for it.

From a spectator point of view, the narrated youtube option has the most potential to me, assuming you have something to say that's more interesting than just telling us what we can already see (meaning it's not just "now I'm attacking... and it's a miss, so then we'll use a potion... so we just click on the potion icon here...")

From a creator point of view, it also seems like that's the option with the most work involved, too, so I don't blame you if you elect to go the other route.
